Would have loved Areruya getting all the way to the line, but a strong, strong performance from Dombrowski to get the win. Really opening up the GC again.
Happy to see Nesset trying, unfortunately he couldn't hold all the way. Good performance from Sosa as well, so again happy with how we played our cards.

That is VERY worrying.
Well done Dombrowski! And a shoutout to Stüssi and Vasyliv who managed to stick around for a very long time.
I hope we can bounce back tomorrow on the hardest climb left in the race. We can't afford to lose the jersey this late into the race if we want to make it to Milan.

Clearly the tactics for Areruya of looking promising early on, losing a load of time partway through then gaining it all back later on in the race through a breakaway is a success so far this year - it does need to be tested outside of Italy but so far it's very promising
What an absolutely stunning start to Week 3! I had hoped Areruya would join a breakaway and chase KoMs since he was in that mid-teens spot that love to do it but I didn't dare ask for it Brilliant stuff, so sad he missed out on the stage win but he did incredibly well to hold onto Dombrowski for as long as he did. Really kept me hoping until the final kilometre
Not sure he can defend his KoM being in 7th overall now but I'll gladly take the GC position if he can hang onto the top 10! Will be very tough though - tomorrow will hurt no doubt. Cima Coppi prize is a cool thing to remember from this race as well, some very prestigious climbs he conquered today in his adventure!
Loving the African display here, 3 in the Top 7 plus Meintjes in the Top 15 also! Especially for four riders who have usually been PCT staples, love to see them kicking ass at the top level anyway
And sorry cio but I do have to love the race up top being made more interesting for a while at least - sure Herklotz will strike back with authority soon and leave no doubt who the boss is though

Good stage from Reis getting back some of what he lost yesterday. Hope he can continue like that in the next mountain stages |

Oh I do enjoy the shakeup as well! This game is way more fun if everyone enjoys the racing and storylines.
I wasn't allowing myself to get too confident just yet anyway, so this doesn't come as a big shock to the system, particularly because it was a deserved victory and reduction of the gap.
Of course it hurts a little to see how close it was to a much more stable situation over the top of the penultimate mountain, that was a bit unfortunate.

I guess I like Guldhammer's aggression most of the time, but I would have liked it more if he was farther down the rankings already. That attack makes less sense from someone in the top 5, and it clearly cost him. Still, he stays in 5th, which is our ideal goal for him going forward, as he didn't crack too hard thanks to having a descent in between. Warbasse looked stronger today too, although I'm still not sure why we're the team using up our guys to chase the breakaway instead of ones of the actual favorites.
Congrats to alex on another win! Dombrowski is in great form and is really giving Herklotz a run for his money here. Admittedly I'm still rooting for Puma so Kamna can get a GT win, but it's exciting to see it be such a close race this late.

That was amazing. Can't believe Dombrowski actually cracked Herklotz
Doubt it will happen again though, so if we wanted to wear the pink jersey even for one day today was the day to do it. Too bad Dombrowski was too far behind in the GC since the gap he got was a very good one. And that gap is very important in the battle for second, which is still our goal at the moment. But like others said it's great to see the race is not as over as it seemed after the last mountain stage.
Really pleased with Dombrowski's performance so far. His aggressiveness finally pays off.

Entertaining stage.
I really enjoyed seeing a strong Areruya and Dombo challenging Herklotz is an interesting switch to the usual story.
Chiarello looks very strong as well but im a bit scared that he might end up in a situation where he doesnt score enough via GC points but also is too high to get stage points.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Great stage and with those who like to see it interesting but also believe Herklotz will strike back tomorrow and in TT.
Sorry about the one lane roads, of the races I worked on this is the one I probably focused on the most so not sure how I missed that stage end. Maybe hidden under the map titling which can be an issue. Luckily given how selective it was probably not decisive in any way. Going forward I second the idea of leaving them in as it is one less thing to do, as Roturn noted, but also because I think they are part of the sport and the AI handles them better than it used to.

Herklotz strikes back! Really got my hopes up when I saw the break, but another day where the peloton kept the break close unfortunately. Good stage by Nesset nevertheless.
Thanks for the report, redordead!

Finally my riders place themselves around spots where I would expect them. Carboni at 20th GC looking decent. Hopefully he can attack again for the KoM points.
Ciccone in the break was good on such stage. Unfortunately a stage for the GC riders again. (well for me, good for the GC teams.)
Koep being my next best placed GC rider is weird, in especially as he also is sitting like 20 spots lower than in the past. Zardini and also Ciccone GC wise really disappointing here.
Great stage for Herklotz obviously. After a weaker performance yesterday, he is back and showing his domination. No chance for anyone else. |

Chiarello dropping so early made me very concerned but he showed a strong recovery. But he still sits in that awkward position and by now it starts to get too late to hope for a drop. Hopefully he can defend his top 10 gc at least.

Formolo is doing a solid job so far and Peters stands out as an overachiever.

Definitely could have gone worse, slipping down a spot but by only a second. Hopefully there's no collapse to come in the next few stages, otherwise I'd have rather it have happened today so he could have done another breakaway and strengthened his KoM lead Fingers crossed tomorrow is a stalemate between the top 10-15 since I think he could do with a break before the MTT but not sure about that happening. Congrats cio!

Hmmm today Roman could've pretty easily gotten Polka Dots back but instead taking a rest day. Maybe that was a smart decision, depending on what he has in store in the last days. Hagen did very well from a break that had no chance today.

Atleast we tried.
I wonder why Aidan doesn't attack at all. No point in having a massive FIG stat if you never try anything.

Wow. Stunning stage! Carboni really woke up in the 2nd half of the race. Pointwise might be the better now with a fantastic stage win and 2nd in KoM so far, even though it still was weird to see him that many minutes earlier for no reason.
Just like last year my team is coming home with a stage win in the Giro and with a team like mine here, a mountain attack was needed obviously.
Pre-stage I had hoped to see Zardini due to his sprint on the remaining two flat finish mountain stages. Though Carboni was apparently the even better option due to the KoM and climbing advantage.
Whenever you develop a rider for a longer time, it`s great to see them taking leadership later on and get themselves some palmares. Even more for an Italien in his biggest home race for a semi Italian team.
Thanks for the double report today! Even more as it was a great one for me. |

Of all the riders, why would you send Villella to that breakaway hoping that Roman comes back for breaks now
