Copenhagen-Malmo TTT
Welcome to the 10th edition of the Copenhagen-Malmo TTT event. Previous it was held five times in Eindhoven. The course remains the same, 58.6 kilometers across Denmark and Sweden.
Last year Grieg-Maersk won before Team Tinkoff and Team Puma. The winning team consisted of Lasse Norman Hansen, Ken Sebastian Vassdal, Mads Würtz, Vegard Stake Laengen, Mathias Krigbaum, Truls Engen Korsaeth, Benoit Cosnefroy and Yuan Tan Peng.
Year | Winner | 2020 | Grieg-Maersk | 2019 | Team Tinkoff | 2018 | Gazelle | 2017 | Jayco - Cobra9 | 2016 | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 2015 | Oz Cycling Project | 2014 | Oz Cycling Project | 2013 | Project 1t4i | 2012 | Jack Wolfskin | 2011 (As Eindhoven TTT) | Jack Wolfskin | 2010 (As Eindhoven TTT) | Wikipedia | 2009 (As Eindhoven TTT) | Eurosport | 2008 (As Eindhoven TTT) | Accumalux | 2007 (As Eindhoven TTT) | Saunier Duval - Prodir |
Let's look at all participating teams in detail:
Aegon - Peroni | PT | **** | 75,13 |
Denz | Nico | GER | 67 | Erdenebat | Bilguunjargal | MGL | 76 | Frison | Frederik | BEL | 77 | Hepburn | Michael | AUS | 79 | Koep | Thomas | GER | 72 | Schädlich | Lucas | GER | 79 | Sergent | Jesse | NZL | 79 | Van Hooydonck | Nathan | BEL | 72 |
The first team in this preview, Aegon-Peroni, brings five excellent time trialers to the start in Copenhagen.
The final result will probably be determined how Koep, Van Hooydonck and Denz will keep up with the tempo.
Amaysim Cervélo | PT | *** | 72,25 |
Canty | Brendan | AUS | 75 | Chatarunga | Sameera | SRI | 67 | Ghyselinck | Jan | BEL | 76 | Monk | Cyrus | AUS | 68 | O'Connor | Ben | AUS | 71 | Scotson | Callum | AUS | 76 | Storer | Michael | AUS | 69 | Wohler | Alex | AUS | 76 |
The Australian team Amaysim Cervélo has four pacers with Canty, Ghyselink, Scotson und Wohler.
The level of the rest of the team is a bit below par. It will be difficult to keep a steady pace with these different levels.
AEA Vesuvio | PT | ***** | 77,13 |
Goos | Marc | NED | 76 | Jungels | Bob | LUX | 78 | Munton | Byron | RSA | 74 | O'Shea | Glenn | AUS | 77 | Pelikan | Janos | HUN | 76 | Pokälä | Samuel | FIN | 77 | Tanfield | Harry | GBR | 79 | Wirtgen | Tom | LUX | 80 |
EA Vesuvio has the second highest average of all participating teams. It seems like a very homogeneous group, with Tom Wirtgen as leader.
The young South African Byron Munton is still developing. With this experience under his belt, the team will have an extra threat in the coming years.
Farfetch Pro Cycling | PT | * | 68,86 |
Affini | Edoardo | ITA | 73 | De Bod | Stefan | RSA | 77 | Elosegui | Inigo | ESP | 68 | Geniets | Kevin | LUX | 68 | Salzmann | Jodok | AUT | 64 | Soulious | Zisis | GRE | 65 | Tiller | Rasmus | NOR | 67 |
Farfetch Pro Cycling is one of the four teams that didn't subscribe a full roster of eight riders.
Edoardo Affini and Stefan De Bod will have to carry this team through the time trial.
Festina - OAKA | PT | *** | 73,63 |
De la Cruz | David | ESP | 74 | Farantakis | Stylianos | GRE | 72 | Giannoutsos | Miltiadis | GRE | 70 | Ioannidis | Nikolaos | GRE | 75 | Kiriakidis | Ioannidis | GRE | 74 | Mavrikakis | Michail | GRE | 71 | Spanopoulos | Ioannis | GRE | 72 | Vlatos | Panagiotis | GRE | 81 |
Festina-OAKA is the only team with just two nationalities on their roster. Panagiotis Vlatos is the engine of the Greek group.
He will be supported by fellow countrymen, including Ioannidis and Kiriakidis, and Spaniard David De la Cruz.
Gazelle | PT | *** | 72,38 |
Geoghegan Hart | Tao | GBR | 76 | Kangert | Tanel | EST | 75 | Konrad | Patrick | AUT | 71 | Kruijswijk | Steven | NED | 71 | Malecki | Kamil | POL | 70 | Peters | Nans | FRA | 68 | Powless | Neilson | USA | 78 | Vervaeke | Louis | BEL | 70 |
Gazelle is a former winner, they won this competition in 2018. The current roster is comparable with Amaysim-Cervelo.
The team has three strong forces (Powless, Geoghegan Hart and Kangert). It will be interesting to see how the other 5 riders will keep up.
Generali | PT | **** | 76,38 |
Brown | Nathan | USA | 76 | Debesay | Mekseb | ERI | 72 | Dennis | Rohan | AUS | 78 | Dyball | Benjamin | AUS | 75 | Kung | Stefan | SWI | 77 | Malori | Adrian | ITA | 78 | Oliveira | Nelson | POR | 78 | Van Baarle | Dylan | NED | 77 |
Generali finished fifth in the last edition of the race. Surely they will compete again this year for the top spots.
All riders seem to have similar qualities, maybe apart from Debesay. From the eight riders, only two were also in Gazelle colors last year.
Grieg-Maersk | PT | *** | 74,25 |
Andersen | Soren Kragh | DEN | 70 | Belevics | Arturs | LAT | 76 | Brkic | Benjamin | AUT | 70 | Korsaeth | Truls Engen | NOR | 77 | Larsen | Niklas | DEN | 72 | Omarsson | Ingvar | ISL | 73 | Wisniowski | Lukasz | POL | 74 | Würtz | Mads | DEN | 82 |
With Grieg-Maersk we present the winner of last year. This year they bring three developing riders, with Belevics, Brkic and Larsen.
It looks like they have to scale back the expectations. But you never know with leader Mads Würtz in their ranks.
Huski Chocolate | PT | ** | 67,13 |
Dima | Emil | ROM | 70 | Goldstein | Omer | ISR | 77 | Hibatullah | Jamal | INA | 63 | Hoehn | Alex | USA | 70 | Hofstede | Lennard | NED | 62 | Lammertink | Maurits | NED | 66 | Majka | Rafel | POL | 69 | Meeus | Jordi | BEL | 60 |
Israeli Omer Goldstein leads the troops of Huski Chocolate. However, the team lacks depth outside of Goldstein.
It will be difficult to make an impact. Emil Dima will definitely use this experience to progress into a fine time trialer.
HISA - Hexacta | PT | *** | 72,88 |
Arissol | Ahmad | SEY | 72 | Chokri | El Mehdi | MOR | 73 | Dlamini | Nicholas | RSA | 75 | Ferreyra | Diego Agustin | CHL | 74 | Martinez | Daniel Felipe | COL | 71 | Mraouni | Salah Eddine | MOR | 72 | Restrepo | Jhonatan | COL | 72 | Sendeku | Getachew | ETH | 74 |
ISA-Hexacta brings a nice collection of time trialers to Copenhagen. The biggest stumbling block will be the top-end speed.
There isn't a real leader on the team. South African Nicholas Dlamini can be seen as the best rider of the eight.
Isostar - Specialized | PT | * | 67,00 |
Bernas | Pawel | POL | 66 | Gregaard | Jonas | DEN | 66 | Krul | Stef | NED | 76 | Peak | Barnabas | HUN | 66 | Riabushenko | Aliaksandr | BLR | 62 | Rickaert | Jonas | BEL | 64 | Sweeny | Harry | AUS | 69 |
Isostar-Specialized ended penultimate in the 2020 edition. This year will be much the same.
The team only brings seven riders, of which Dutchmen Stef Krul is by far the best time trialer.
King Power | PT | ** | 70,25 |
Beniusis | Justas | LTU | 77 | Boonratanathanakorn | Thurakit | THA | 67 | Darbinyan | Varsham | ARM | 62 | Ferreira | Ricardo | POR | 63 | Kasperkiewicz | Przemyslaw | POL | 72 | Mostov | Zeke | USA | 73 | Reis | Rafael | POR | 76 | Vanthourenhout | Michael | BEL | 72 |
King Power brings two leaders in Justas Beniusis and Rafael Reis. The challenge will be to keep the 'lesser' riders on board.
Ferreira and Darbinyan won't have a good night sleep before this assignment.
Mapei | PT | ** | 68,75 |
Goncalves | Gaspar | POR | 56 | Groselj | Ziga | SLO | 72 | Lemus Davila | Luis Enrique | MEX | 72 | Neuman | Dominik | CZE | 65 | Palyi | Csaba | HUN | 73 | Predatsch | Kevin | GER | 77 | Rohendi | Teten | INA | 68 | Schlechter | Pit | LUX | 67 |
In the Mapei team, four riders were already under contract. These are the four riders with the highest stats (Predatsch, Palyi, Groselj and Lemus).
However the additions to the roster aren't that promising for this time trial. Especially Goncalves will have a hard time catching up.
Minions | PCT | *** | 74,63 |
Bjerg | Mikkel | DEN | 73 | Cheyne | Jordan | CAN | 76 | Haga | Chad | USA | 75 | Hagen | Edvald Boasson | NOR | 70 | Ligthart | Pim | NED | 77 | Nechita | Andrei | ROM | 75 | Rosas | Laureano | ARG | 75 | Uran | Rigoberto | COL | 76 |
Minions has a very experienced line-up with an average age of 31,37. Mikkel Bjerg is the only young gun at age 23.
They are the first (of two) Pro Continental Team in our preview. We expected them to compete for a top-5 classification.
MOL | PT | * | 67,43 |
Dina | Marton | HUN | 69 | Domagalski | Karol Andrzej | POL | 74 | English | Felix | IRL | 66 | Filutas | Viktor | HUN | 67 | Hussein | Mujtaba | KEN | 76 | Kalf | Steven | EST | 65 | Lovassy | Krisztian | HUN | 55 |
MOL doesn't bring a full roster to this team event, so the expectations are pretty clear.
Hopefully Hussein and Domagalski can limit the damage at the finish in Malmö.
Moser - Sygic | PT | *** | 73,63 |
Atkins | Josh | NZL | 78 | Cerny | Josef | CZE | 68 | Cink | Ondrej | CZE | 68 | Danacik | Jakub | CZE | 75 | Kukrle | Michal | CZE | 78 | Osorio | Juan | COL | 71 | Prado | Ignacio Jesus | MEX | 74 | Turek | Daniel | CZE | 77 |
Moser-Sygic finished sixth in the previous edition. This year we see them around the same position.
The powerful Czech trio of Turek, Kurkle and Danacik is supported by Josh Atkins and co.
Project: Africa | PCT | *** | 73,50 |
Bobridge | Jack | AUS | 77 | Coppel | Jerome | FRA | 79 | Hamza | Yacine | ALG | 60 | Janse van Rensburg | Reinhardt | RSA | 78 | Kiflay | Metkel | ERI | 76 | Kireva | Albert | ZIM | 75 | Pidcock | Thomas | GBR | 69 | Tesfom | Sirak | ERI | 74 |
Project: Africa is the second Pro Continental Team on the startlist. Apart from youngsters Hamza and Pidcock, they have a very solid care.
As with most team time trials, the result will mostly depend on the performances of the weakest links.
Team Puma - SAP | PT | **** | 76,63 |
Cavagna | Remi | FRA | 76 | Conci | Nicola | ITA | 75 | Ganna | Filippo | ITA | 78 | Kämna | Lennard | GER | 76 | Politt | Nils | GER | 78 | Stüssi | Colin | SWI | 75 | Sütterlin | Jasha | GER | 80 | Weinstein | Domenic | GER | 75 |
Team Puma-SAP was third last year, 22 seconds behind Grieg-Maersk. They look well in place to reach the podium again.
Led by Jascha Sütterlin, this team has an amazing depth with no distinctly lesser time trialer.
Team Tinkoff - La Datcha | PT | ***** | 77,25 |
Dal Col | Andrea | ITA | 79 | Goldstein | Roy | ISR | 79 | Rybalkin | Aleksey | RUS | 71 | Sivakov | Pavel | RUS | 74 | Vlasov | Alexander | RUS | 77 | Vorobev | Anton | RUS | 79 | Yatsevich | Kiril | RUS | 80 | Zakarin | Aydar | RUS | 79 |
Team Tinkoff-La Datcha is one the specialists in this event, being winner in 2016 and 2019 and runner-up in 2020. The Russian team hopes to regain the top spot this year.
They count on a collection of Russian time trialers like Yatsevich, Vorobev and Zakarin. This is supplemented by other specialists like Dal Col and Goldstein.
Xero Racing | PT | * | 60,33 |
Kipkemboi | Salim | KEN | 56 | Mudgway | Luke | NZL | 60 | Nikiema | Bachirou | BUR | 62 | Rowe | Luke | GBR | 65 | Schleck | Jordan | UGA | 53 | Stannard | Robert | AUS | 66 |
Xero Racing is the team that will almost certainly end at the bottom. They only subscribed six riders to the event.
On paper, they have four riders of the top-10 weakest time trialers. It will be a learning experience for youngsters like Kipkemboi, Stannard and Nikiema.
Zwift Pro Cycling | PT | *** | 73,13 |
Eastman | Ryan | USA | 77 | Eaton | Daniel | USA | 77 | Errazkin | Xuban | ESP | 70 | Intxausti | Benat | ESP | 73 | Jones | Carter | USA | 71 | Narvaez | Jhonatan | ECU | 68 | Stroll | Lewis | CAN | 72 | Verona | Carlos | ESP | 77 |
The last team in this preview is Zwift Pro Cycling. Based on the average stat, they should end in the middle of the pack.
The core of Eastman, Eaton and Verona will set the pace for the rest of the team.
You can find the full startlist here:
Good luck to all participating teams!

I'm gonna guess knockout somehow found out about Xero's lineup and decided he can't "beat" that

We're here with the min-wage overaged time trialists no one else wanted. Zero expectations, zero pressure.
Thanks Laurens for the preview!

Somewhere in the region of 8-10th should be possible looking at the startlist. If that happens I'm happy with sacrificing 2 RD for de la Cruz. If anything less than that, I suppose it was a bad move.

Yup, no win this year. Lost too many TTers during transfers, but we still have some left. Hope Wurtz doesn't destroy the others. On a good day we should be able to be well inside the top 10, maybe even challenging for a top 5, so hope the boys are ready.
Decided to go for a quite strong team here, but didn't really see any better two race days for Wisniowski/Wurtz with the other races they had planned. Could have sent Wurtz to a flat one day race, but a good result here should be worth more.
Let's see how that pans out ... Big race for Tinkoff this, hope they get a good result.

Top7 should be reachable. Top3-5 only with good daily form.
Knowing my teams TTT experience and history I expect outside top10. |

I feel personally attacked by that Xero lineup. That lineup is not the result of only using the riders with remaining race days at the end of planning but it is a deliberate attempt at sending the worst possible team. And Bazhkou and a pure TTer like Van Niekerk dont even ride in Portugal to justify that decision
___
I decided to not attend this race this year for reasons i have explained in detail in my HQ.
4 teams not sending a full team and me not participating is very interesting (and shows that many managers dont care about this **** ). Could mean that some teams with no ambitions like Huski score better than they probably expected before the preview.
Seeing that teams such as MOL, Xero and Mapei (kinda) throw the race next to the obvious candidates (Isostar) makes my decision to skip the race slightly less correct. However, Tvetcov already scored 8 points in the Portugal prologue which probably would not have been replaced by others if i raced here so it likely won't cost me much - if he adds further points via leaders jersey or more likely a top 25-30 GC it could well be a positive decision in the end despite the miscalculation about the startlist from my part.
Thank you for volunteering to report here, congrats to the eventual winner, see you all at the next race! |

I'm positive we're not gonna win this, but I'm intersted in whether the Debesay move is gonna pay off at all potentially. He certainly looks like he could do wonders if he gets a +3 or thereabouts.
From the eight riders, only two were also in Generali colors last year.
Not exactly right btw, I lost several of them during renewals and just resigned all of them bar I think Theuns, so the db shows the wrong team for 2020

I'll have you know I made this team very early in planning to ensure my worst TTers would still be available for it

Clearly didn't work out The TT random generator overlords seem to think they've done enough for us in the Portugal prologue and hit my team with a <= -3 instead
Congrats SN, your team did look great on paper! And thanks for the report Laurens

Wow, what a ride by the guys. Really didn't think a 3rd place would be possible here, but I guess we had a good day. Wurtz surely the locomotive for us, and good to see him trying to keep his wages low by not be amongst pur first five
Congrats on the win, SN! Great team you have managed to build around Wirtgen, who's had a good start to the season.

Well done SN. Just ahead of Tinkoff in a close fight.
My team on par. Not as strong as top5 but just behind the best teams. Unfortunately couldn't send 2-3 mediocre timetrialists here to attach the top5 such as De Bie race day wise but it's done small points by basically helpers only which I also take. |
