Not cool. No gaps whatsoever is a bit disappointing. And no disrespect but that Croes guy can fuck off. No way should he be able to get such a result outside of early breaks Pfft

Spoiler
For those of you that also don't know him: 71hi, 69mo and terrible backup stats like 64fl, 64acc, 62sp

But at least Van Stayen comes away from this with a good GC result.

I can understand the frustration of many puncheur teams after not seeing any gaps and seeing a guy like Croes cruise to a podium like that, but obviously I am thrilled to see Manninen still in second, with even a shot at the GC win tomorrow. A stage win was my goal, finishing high in the GC the dream. As seen last year, this is a race to try it, so I'm happy I took that decision with Matti.

Is there a possibility to set the time gaps at the finish like they are in mountain stages, where every second of a gap counts? Might be interesting for races like this.

Thanks for the report again roturn, and congratulations to deez.

Alex Mayer nicely hidden away in the bunch alongside TVG & McCarthy, defending his 6th GC & U25 Lead. All my fingers crossed he doesn't befall the random puncture tomorrow, as that will make for a solid points return around what we'd hoped going in to this race.

Ewan tried, and for a sprinter 12th up Willunga is still a good ride. A good final sprint and he could jump into the Top10 GC as well.

The f*ck are you doing Croes!! 2nd on Willunga vs a B world Champion & semi-legends in Bakelands & Ponzi. You're a Lvl 1.00 youngster without sprint or acceleration. Incredible performance! This could well be his season highlight (alongside his Caribbean TT Bronze medal), but what a highlight! The Caribbean revolution has officially begun here today, on Willunga Hill.

We have only gone backwards after the first stage. I think TVA was given overall leadership and Teuns thus became just a support rider. Hope the former can get into the Top 10 again tomorrow for some bonus seconds and maybe move up a bit. Overall, can't say I'm too surprised how this has turned out. Was just hoping for a little better GC wise.

Thanks for the reports and congrats to the great one Smile

Meh.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Well, that's bizarre. I definitely didn't expect AKA to still be in 14th overall after Wilunga Hill. And it's not like he got his climbing legs suddenly, he finished 147th on the stage. Very strange results. Seems like the age of climber hybrids ruling hills is officially over and we've entered the new age of... well I don't know. Random Lvl 1.00 domestiques? Not quite what I expected to say the least. Betancourt at least a worthy winner, so congrats to Red Bull!

AKA will be looking for another solid sprint to finish out the race tomorrow. He now has a minor GC position on the line, so bonus seconds would be great. That being said, I didn't expect any GC points coming in, and I'm not going to let myself get hung up on them now.

Nice to see Sulvaran in the break again!

I know PCM used to have 3 different settings for how large time gaps have to be to count, with the smallest being 7 seconds. I'd be in favor of having all stage reduced to the smallest time gap standard, though in this case I'm pretty sure hills stages always defaulted to the smallest gaps anyway. Maybe it's changed in the last few years though.

Kraftwerk the only team with 3 riders in the top 18 on Willunga Hill (thats a very carefully selected stat). But no time gaps means no improvement in Team position.

Good to see Dieteren using his fighter stat to get in the break.

At least Bilbao has a shot at a top 10 GC.

Good to finally see Thièry in a breakaway again - I feel like the last time he did so is ages ago Smile It obviously was the wrong stage (day 4 would have been way better), but at least he showed some fighting spirit, other than a formerly hyped and now extremely disappointing Fabian Lienhard...

Definitely didn't expect Reinhardt to not lose any time today. Although I like this points-wise, it's just annyoing to have such a horrible AI on that final climb. Never ever should someone like Croes cruise to a 2nd place on this stage (from the pack). But, if TMM was so lucky with anonymous riders here, chances are some other team will be lucky in another race. Maybe even us now or then?

Now, if Reinhardt can again win a sprint from the pack, like he did yesterday, I'll be happy I guess. We'll probably get more GC points than I expected - but by now far less stage points... It's a bad race for us in any case - let's see if Theo can at least make it a little less bad.

That's another surprising result thinking of the complete lack of gaps. It's a real chance for Manninen to run away with the GC on the final stage, which is surprising.

Also the stage winners on these hilly stages are quite something. I hope this isn't setting the tone for the season, as I hope the pre-race favourites can be slightly stronger as the season progresses and the hills get tougher.

Btw, I played this exact stage a few days ago on PCM 18 - and I had absolutely no chance with a 75 Hi sprinter on good daily form and with good backups... So if it's ridden correctly, there can definitely be gaps, and the strongest puncheurs are up front.
I really hope this won't be a recurring pattern with PCM 20 - especially in PCT's stacked puncheur field, that would be pretty game breaking...

MacC
I've played a lot of pcm20 and don't think this is normal result in this type of stage.
I wouldn't give up on it yet.

So err, looks like we built the hill depth too strong, sorry guys.

I'll see some of ya'll in CT next year.

Really nothing good for us here. Bonifazio is sprinting at least, but his positionning is so bad he can't get even one top 10, let alone points. De Plus outclassed could be expected but he just gave up after a good stage 3. Thanks for the reports.

Good guy Manninen decided a puncheur should win the stage race and decided not to join the sprint Pfft Definitely happy with two stage wins, second in GC, winning the green jersey and seeing Nolasco in the break on stage three Smile

Thanks for the great reports, roturn!

So Nizzolo just didn't bother then...??? Any reason why???

Utter rubbish race for us across all stages and goes hand in hand with the terrible race in DUC. This is going to be a long frustrating season

Ah, so close to a Top10 GC for Ewan. Mess of a lead-out but again it's noteworthy that on PCM20 it's best to leave your sprint as late as possible. Unfortunately the AI isn't as good at managing this as a Human, and Ewan blew a certain win because "the Sprint must launch about 1km to go".
That said 3 x Top10 on the day is still fun to see, and Ewan is still fairly consistently competing and getting up there. It won't be enough for us to survive in the PCT on that level of result however it helps keep his market value high.

Alex Mayer survived for 6th GC! Epic performance from the neo-pro Mauritian. Picked the right wheel at the right moment on the key stage and then didn't f*ck it up. Saves our race massively, along with his U25 win and the Teams Classification.
And Croes still hasn't stopped smiling and laughing.

Ending the Aussie double season opener things could have been a bit better, but we've stayed just about on expectation even if the method was unconventional.
That said the AI isn't looking improved on PCM18 yet but still a small sample size. Fingers crossed it can be a bit better, even if that will mean we can't get podium results on hill stages Pfft
