Hoping he can get a stage win at Vuelta. I will miss him and his grimaces.

About the van Wilder case, these words seem to confirm he’ll ride with different colours in 2022. Something is far from right with how the team is managed. Just hope he doesn’t end in UAE.
EDIT: wouldn’t surprise me if he ended in Quick Step, taking over Almeida’s place (and since he and Remco go way back too).

"try to get my pleasure and motivation back of riding a bike" doesn't sound well. I just hope this won't be a starting point of a known story.

Even for a 21 year old, that's harsh. Something is wrong with that team but no one wants to say what it is.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Just check the latest Wielerflits Interviews with their team chefs. There you know it. I think it's an approach that you either love or hate. Riders that love it are very successful and perform over their potential (I guess), others fail to live up to that. I think their approach is valid, but the fallout coming from it is inevitable.

i agree, the few negative examples are good coverage for media outlets but we never hear a why..They have a strict ocd approach but its valid. the number of failures after leaving the team speaks for itself

Thanks for the heads up! Just wow. Why are we talking shit about Lefevre?
I'm going to predict that unless they get a new manager, that team is done by the end of next year. Every good rider wants to leave and the ones that stay (for now!) like Benoot, Bardet and SKA aren't even close to the level one would expect of them.

On the one hand I agree concerning this year, but on the other hand they have been successful in the past. Look at last years tour, where they were overwhelmingly positive surprises. They developed guys like Hirschi really well. Also their development team does really well either, and they get to sign a lot of the top youngsters (imo from the ones that not directly gone pro Bittner, Lund and Garofoli were three of the top 5 prospects born in 2002, and they all chose DSM.) I think they'll always attract riders and sponsors due to their determination and scientificly very good approach, but at the same time they'll wear out as many cause they frankly don't know how to handle personalities that diverge from their model citizen type of idea that they have of a rider.
I think they'll shift even more to being a development team for the big guns, cause they do it well but if you're a star you want to make decisions at the end of the day and that's what DSM hates.
Also to the van Wilder case: Apparantly DSM has a problem with his agent, that's why Gall and Kanter also have to leave (they have the same agent).

During the Olympics, Danish coverage had Morten Bennekou and AKA in the studio and it's very much something that you either love or hate. It's overly systemized and either that is your style or it isn't. Also the agent situation that C14 mentions.

Vinokourov back in full charge at Astana. Reports saying Nibali and Moscon are done deals and Viviani has been offered a 2 year deal as well.

Sad to see him go. Had a great career and was only missing the Flèche Wallone he deserved. |

Surprising as I thought he could carry on for a couple more years, he remained quite consistent and competitive. :/ But I understand his decision. |

He definitely had a few more years in him strength wise. Had his best GT performance only last year, and his Giro stage win this season was one of the most impressive breakaway performances I've seen in a while. I think the retirement is more of a conscious decision. Article says it's not fun anymore, and I think the dangers are also a factor. Remember, he dropped out of the Giro GC on the gravel because he said that the dangerous risks just didn't seem worth it to him anymore now that he has a family.
He will probably always be my favorite cyclist though. His maintained his aggressive style during the most locked down years of the Sky train, often to my frustration. He wanted to attack, he wanted to try things, even when he was vastly overmatched. At his best he was a top 3 puncheur in the world, and at least he got a couple of monuments. That 2014 Liege crash will always haunt me, and he really deserved to take a Fleche win.
I do wish he had taken a couple of years to go for different goals. With his skillset, I was always left wondering why he spent so many years going for Tour GC against his better interests. I feel like he had a Vuelta podium and more classics wins in his arsenal if he had just committed to them instead of getting 8th or something in a TDF again. But that probably had as much to do with sponsors and management than him.
Almost everyone I rooted for when I first became hooked on cycling is now retired. I guess I have to get some new favorite riders.

Womens peloton is jammed full of amazing personalities, agressive attacking riders, and a whole range of talented Americans both veteran and up-coming
