Morkov was just waiting for Cav. Ok, he passed me, now I'll sprint again and get 2nd.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

That was pretty impressive. Messy sprint and thought Philipsen was going to box him in.

Its so weird that what feels like years since Cav's "peak" he's having a Tour that reminds me of his HTC days where it was pretty much a given that he was finishing 1st (or 2nd I guess) on a sprint stage. I haven't watched all the stages, but from the results every sprint hes contested he's won? I honestly wonder if you put Bennett or Ackermann or Ewan in his spot if they would have as many wins or not. Cav is just so good and finding a way to always be in the right wheel to challenge.

I have no words Shock

I spent years playing PCM to do just this, because it wasn't supposed to actually be possible!
Cipollini, Darigarde, Abdujaparov, Leducq, Pelissier, Maertens, Petacchi, de Vlaeminck, Sagan, Hushovd, McEwen, Zabel, Merckx - the sprinting greatest is Mark Cavendish!

that's actually crazy and I didn't realize that until I checked it

due to the field here being so incredibly underwhelming, there barely isn't any sprinter that wouldn't win multitude of stages with this Quick Step team

It's kinda wild looking at his stats: He only ever finished 2nd three times and 3rd four times. So it really is like whenever he is in a position to win it, he almost always does. Compare that to other sprinters like Zabel (12/22/19), McEwan (12/10/6) or Greipel (11/8/6), lots of podium places, with obviously far fewer wins. The only guy who has a comparable ratio is Kittel (14/2/2), which feels right considering his dominance at his peak. Just not close to the longevity of Cav, of course.

Omg and he even drops a reference to next years TDF Femmes in his post-race interview!

Legend! Goat! Hero!

I don't disagree but Cav did beat Ewan, Ackermann, Groenewegen etc. at Baloise, so he's proven that he can beat the top sprinters as well, if we regard Ackermann as a top sprinter that is. But as previously stated by myself, this DQS team is elite and it's a joy to watch.

Looking at how he has ridden, Cav will reach Paris already holding the record. Pfft Think stage 19 should suit him well.

I think they would definitely be winning a lot as well dont get me wrong, but winning 4 stages in one GT is still extremely impressive (and we are just a little over half way). Where was WVA, Colbrelli or any of the other B tier sprinters apart from Philipsen, that should supposedly be on Cav's level (assuming he's a step below the best)? Maybe Cav has lost a bit of speed but he times all his sprints perfectly, always knows which wheel to follow, seems to sneak around situations where he should be boxed in etc.

Im starting to think Cav really isn't that far off the best in the world. Maybe not in top speed anymore, but if he can be set up near the front with 1km to go, he can pretty much wheel hop from there and win, even if his train gets disorganized.

I have to agree with you there. He just looks unbeatable.

I've been rooting for this guy to reach this number for so many years, but I have to say it's really weird seeing him take the all-time record after years of continuous decline. QST really can bring best of any rider in every terrain it seems.

Phil, you know what to do if you want to get that last monument!

it was quite sad to see Morkov waiting for Cavendish passing him, am I the only one feeling that sentiment?
He never won a TdF stage and probably he will never do.

Shonak
Yes, also quite bad that QS doesnt really pay respect to the morkov train during the cav hype but oh well thats cycling

Mørkøv has a Vuelta stage, 3 national RR champs, multiple world, European and national champs on track site of things. His palmares is pretty damn good even without the Tour stage.

df_Trek
there's no comparison between TdF stage and all his wins, talking about Road cycling

Ollfardh
Dude is recognised as the best leadout in the peloton for a few years now and I like his chances for Olympic gold next month. He's happy.

yeah I know, that's how cycling goes and it will go forever. I'm not saying Morkov is a sad man, It was just a thought while Cavendish was taking a 34th part of something that another rider was sacrificing his once. that's the sad part.

baseballlover312
Yeah, it really sucks for Morkov. He had that win there if it's not his job to pull up for Cav. And I know they did it so Cav could go for the record, but a TDF stage win would mean a lot more to a guy like Morkov, who has spent his career working for others and let them take the glory for his work.
