Getting annoyed by Alpecin going for Philipsen when Merlier is definitely the faster sprinter.
Contract reasons.
Merlier has sprint leadership in Giro, Philipsen war guaranteed to be sprint leader in the Tour when he signed with them.
Annoying indeed but at least the team stays to its word. |

Just needed a few more GC riders to spice things up. Porte or Kruijswijk could've tried something here.

Pogacar in shambles now that he can't solely focus on his favorite rider anymore
also VDP and WVA can't be seperated which I not sure is a good thing

I can't imagine that VDP will abort the Olympics, then again. he's been doing stuff I can't imagine for years now

If other DS haven't finally learnt something about race tactics, it is over. But if they play it smart, Team UAE can definitely be challenged.
I didn't really expect UAE to crack so hard on a slightly hilly stage, but I guess we've seen today that winning the tour won't necessarily be a walk in the park for Pogi - except if he gets some unexpected Movi (or other team's) support...
Will be interesting to see if Roglic is now going for stage wins, or if they go all in for WvA. If the latter is as strong in the mountains as he was last year, that could be pretty interesting stuff...

So Movistar still has a grudge with Carapaz? They pull off something like that every year.

Why would you give free time to one of your prime rivals. Since when it's acceptable to give Ineos stuff for free?
Good on Movistar to keep chasing and putting up a fight. Hope MAL has angel wings

I dunno, this somehow felt personal
But yeah, Pogacar vs all is a bit optimistic, after all I need Mas to win this after my predictions all those year ago.

Fun stage that was! A very enjoyable Tour so far, great storylines and aggressive racing. And now the mountains.

Pretty neat to come back to such an eventful tour even if the victory is all but how long it takes Pogacar to beat out MVDP and Van Aert
