We lost a lot of time on stages 5 & 6 of San Luis. It's good to see that Ochoa and Arredondo worked together on those stages, both finishing at the same time, but I would have liked for Ochoa to help Arredondo more so he could keep his top 5 position in the GC.
Still, a stage win and top 10 in GC satisfied the sponsors for this focus race.
Even more, having 4 riders in top 25, Boivin wearing the leader's jersey and the team in 2nd position of the teams classification doesn't leave us with much space for playing the victim in future races. |

Pulido lost the white jersey due to the very unnecessary 3 minute loss in stage 1, otherwise I am sure he would have beaten Boileau. Too bad, especially given Grupo's overall point haul from this race. He will get his chance next year.
Betancur redeemed himself a bit with the later stage results but 6th is about the bare minimum from this race. Would have preferred to get a stage win but freaking Mohoric strikes again in Pais Vasco. I dont understand how he can ride like this. Bit annoying to see his dominance continue - would have hoped for more open racing and different winners, but oh well - if it isn't Mohoric then it would be Kwiatek dominating...
What happened to Lutsenko, King of bad positioning even when he is in the leader jersey?

Good fighting by Wellens to secure a top 10 over some better riders!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Rankings update posted! Grupo Argos already with an annoyingly large lead after winning both WT stage races so far
Now can't wait for the cobbles, which is I believe the area where the most happened in the off season. |

Villella didn't get the podium I hoped he would but 4th is still a pretty good result from him, especially considering what happened to a few riders on that 5th stage. Rankings also look solid now with us in 10th but with the cobbles coming up, I fear we won't stay there for long. Argos looking unbeatable already, it seems.
Thanks for all these updates!

5th overall from Tommy is ok, but unfortunately it looks like he will be the only one carrying our team to a decent result again this year. Back to the mid-table region off the back of one race is promising however.
Nizzolo's best chance at a classic win might be coming up this month, so I'm hopeful that the sprinters don't all survive to the end of MSR. Oss will lead us on the cobbles while Mollema and Moreira continue their two-man World Cup expedition in the hills, so we actually have good riders in almost every race in March.

I wonder what happened in the 4th stage of National Capital Tour. Guirado held his own on the 3rd stage, the most difficult, and then lost 3'15" in the last dropping way down from his 8th overall. *shrugs* Well, I guess that's racing.
We didn't send the best line-up here, it was more for some young riders to get experience. A top 5 on stage 2, top 25 in the GC and 2nd in KoM is more than I expected. I still need to recover from how my heart sank when I opened the stage 4 results though. |

Wow! Mikelj got a 2nd place finish in stage 2 of National Capital Tour
He was suppose to be my leadout rider, but I never signed a sprinter

At National Capital Tour seems that stage 3 wasn't so well suited for climbers...I was hoping for a more selective race....but ok Talansky 6th is lower than expected, but Hofland got a great day uphill and in TT getting 8th place in GC, not so good in sprints anyway

I was also surprised at how stage 3 went in NCT. Tempo was quite slow for almost whole climb. No attacks until basically final sprint. And climb itself turned out to not be that hard also. |

San Luis went way better than I was hoping for, but with the Capital Tour I would have been surprised not to get some decent results. Still, two stages and the overall is more than just 'decent'

Thank you for the updates! May I ask how the 4th stage went? Just curious, nothing else. |

Weird what happened on Stage 3 of NCT, but atleast Guglielmo had a good TT ride. I was hoping Uran would get another Top 3 there, but some good stage results and decent depth again means its not a terrible race for us.

Ouch, that second half of San Luis really, really hurts. I don't quite understand what it would have taken to succeed, tbh. Riders similar to Gomez (76 Mo, 73 Hi) did pretty well, riders similar to Huamán (66 Mo, 75 Hi) did pretty well, too - but those two didn't do well at all. I mean, our best rider in the GC is Gaviria (70 / 70), that doesn't make any sense at all.
Moreover, Zabel had some very weak stages. If Willwohl or Rajsp can keep up with the second group on stage 5, he should easily do the same. And his sprint result were clearly underwhelming.
All in all, our home race was a huge letdown, which is well reflected by being dead last with a good margin in the CT standings. We definitely have to step up, and not just a bit!
On the other side, our youngsters did a really good job. Gorriarán was definitely not the right guy to go KoM hunting, but finishing 4th is a notable result anyway. Espinosa even wore the jersey for two days, so these guys lived up to their task.

Those short flat stages are usually done with a fast tempo with breakaway either let free for more than 1'30" where it's hard to catch them, or having not more than a minute. Mass sprint so... |
