But wouldn't that make climbing out of your seat Contador style illegal? Pfft

Acutal rule:
The rider shall normally assume a sitting position on the bicycle. This position requires that the onlypoints of support are the following: the feet on the pedals, the hands on the handlebars and theseat on the saddle.

Super-tuck is outside this, as the riders point of contact becomes the top-tube instead of the seat. Standing to pedal is allowed, as you are not using support outside the three contact points specified.
Like most UCI rules it's very vague...

What's also fun in the rules, is that two down you have this:
Propulsion
1.3.010The bicycle shall be propelled solely, through a chainset, by the legs (inferior muscular chain) moving in a circular movement, without electric or other assistance.

Which can be interpreted as both gravity not being allowed, and freewheeling being illegal Pfft

UCI rules, very vague Pfft

Ah, I see what you mean.

For whatever reason I didn't realize the riders were actually touching the tubes while doing this. I thought they just had two points of contact instead of three Smile

anyway forbidding this positions can bring riders to find other aerodynamic positions even more dangerous...

Couldn`t agree more with Keisse there. As long as the UCI is not doing necessary stuff, they are responsibe for to guarantee better safety such as barriers, markers, route guidelines for organizations etc., they shouldn`t start to bring in rules like those.

While the super-tuck rule is at least not totally out of mind to be honest, the handle bar rule is simply not needed imo and I doubt it`s possible to really ban this position fully neither. They have rules about what the bike is allowed to be, so they really shouldn`t care a lot how riders ride those bikes then.

To be clear, the "supertuck" was technically already illegal. The rule is basically the riders must maintain three points of contact: hands on bards, ass on seat, feet on pedals. This is more a reminder and warning it will now be inforced.

UCI also, in the same press release, are changing the rules around barriers (to be confirmed after consultation with riders, teams, organizers etc), race markers and signs are to become universal across all races to avoid confusion, stricter rules on protective barriers around obstacles and around course safety, adding in a lisence and points system for all vehical drivers, an official clear "safety car" procedure for race neutralization, and more.
Basically everything everyone has complained about in the past few years is being changes, updated and brought under a new structure in the rules.

But you know, talking about supertuck generates clicks and engagement for social media and news sites. Saying "the UCI is making all the asked for changes" is boring, if closer to the truth.

I agree with TMM here, it seems that the press is shifting the attention towards the less important, more clickable part of the press release.

Agree. I think Cycling should really try to be marketing itself as a very environmentally friendly sport, which could help to bring in new fans who support sustainable sporting, similar to Formula E. (Although both sports obviously still have their negatives, like cars following peloton, or massive freight for shipping car parts in Formula E's case)

This is a good point, cycling should work harder to present itself as a green sport, giving that during the pandemic cycling (the activity, not the sport) received a lot of media and general public attention.

Vini Zabu, Bardiani and EOLO-Kometa receive the remaining wildcards for the Giro (besides Alpecin). No Arkea or Androni, the latter kind of surprising, I’d say, although if I’m not mistaken, had already missed the race some years ago.

roturn
Eolo is a sponsor for RCS races, which explains a lot on the financial side, not so much on the team strength side.

Vini Zabu had a positive test in hte Giro last year, so imo could have been a good team to miss out. Then again, it was by a rider, who was riding for Androni the years before and actually until 2 months before the Giro....so Androni might not have been the best replacement neither.

In the end, as long as sponsor reasons go over team strength and the amount of teams being too high, every year will see those issues.

Kinda strange, I admit, inviting Vini Zabu instead of Androni.

Horrible decisions. They should've invited Androni or italy-based Gazprom with guys like Zakarin and Kreuziger commited to the Giro instead of Vini Zabu.

With due respect to Androni, they are bunch of promising and entertaining riders, but they lack a rider of Mareczko's level, who is usually able to get a stage podium at GT, so it's understandable

We'll be seeing Euskaltel's bright orange jerseys once again later this year at La Vuelta. Smile All-Spanish wildcards, aside from Alpecin-Felix, with Caja Rural and Burgos the remaining two invitations, as expected.

Awesome! Would've preferred Kern Pharma over Burgos though.

At least I can now say I've lived long enough to see the return of Euskaltel. Smile

Marc Hirschi Drama!

We all wondered exactly why he left DSM. Turns out that DSM management saw Marc as "a risk to the team and sponsors".
Without more details yet we are just left to speculate what has gone on behind the scenes. But it feels very clear DSM wanted to offload the Swiss rider and wash their hands of anything that may come up in the future.

Given how another team was very quick to sign him on a large deal, i doubt this is anything doping or cheating related. But i'm getting a sinking feeling Hirschi might turn out to be a massic d*ck. Kind of like Moscon is a d*ck, but ideally with less racism.

From what I read, it does relate to the things you said. Apparently Hirschi did some dubious stuff the team didnt't want to be associated with.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Let's not forget which team was very quick to sign him.

Not really news, but Alejandro Valverdes career palmares are so long now, that he's broken the formatting of PCS.

And that's including the fact that 2011 is missing from his suspension too.
