Puma becomes Polestar's new clothing supplier - the team set to introduce 'uniform' kit
i.pinimg.com/originals/11/43/05/114305c7b06fc055c0bacd368433895b.jpgWith the 2019 ICL season drawing to its conclusion, the Polestar Pro Cycling is already looking towards 2020. And the team made the announcement that the team has made a deal with Puma to supply them with cycling kits, footwear and apparel for the 2020 ICL season, replacing Craft as kit supplier. "We are pleased to announce Puma as our new technical partner for the 2020 season", said ivaneurope. "We also want to thank Craft for their support in the two seasons together".
While it isn't known that much about the look of the kit, what it has been revealed by sources is that the team would introduce an 'uniform' kit among both the main and youth teams with the cyan color set to be abandoned for the next season.

Aviva 2019 season review

October review: We can't be entirely happy with the Bucamaranga Classic, where domestique Bibby (33rd) beat both Hardy (39th) and Fuglsang (40th). We need to look for a real captain for the hilly classics, replacing these two riders.

On the other hand, Paris-Tours was a nice surprise. Schorn was anonymous and finished well outside the points, but Stannard made the select final group and finished 8th, rounding off his great autumn in style.

And then Majka finished 2nd, only behind the rainbow jersey, in Il Lombardia. A tremendous result, surely the best single result for Aviva all year, in a season of many fine performances. Though the very last race, the WC TTT, where we finished only 17th, became the only race in which we didn't score at all.

Season review: I'm a pessimist at heart and ahead of the season I was pretty sure I'd be fighting against relegation. Part of me even wanted Majka to fail again, to give me the "Santos experience", but it wasn't to be. Instead, the season was very similar to our CT season, we immediately got points on the board and never had a dry spell. Toowoomba made January a huge success, Fuglsang and Thomas both overperformed. Majka got into the mix early with races in February and March and didn't disappoint. And at the same time Thomas scored with great consistency and so we were ranked 2nd among all WT teams by the end of March. It was bound to let up after that and it did, but the gap to the relegation places never became worrying.

Maybe the Giro was a little underwhelming, Fuglsang in general after his good start in Toowoomba. But others stepped up, especially Tao Hart, who scored well in every race. 8th in the Tour de France, 9th in the Vuelta, also winning the U25 classification of the latter.

However, at the end of July there was one major flal to our performance, so severe that some experts deemed our season to be a real failure: We only had one win to our name, coming from Thomas winning a stage in Toowoomba all the way back in January. Thankfully, August saw us quadruple our tally: Thomas won the short final ITT in the ToNE, Stannard won a stage of the Eneco Tour and Birch won a stage in the Baltic Tour, his first professional victory. And a month later Hardy won a stage in the Tour of Britain.

Only team managers care for the teams classification and we can be glad that we are surrounded by team managers in the ICL. Smile So while the number of victories remained low, we finished 7th overall in the WT rankings, plus 8th overall in the prestige rankings, scoring a decent amount of points in CT races even though we only sent our domestiques. What an amazing season.

Acemen: Majka, Geoghegan Hart, Thomas

These three riders were our top transfer targets ahead of the season, we got them all and they were all fantastic: Majka a good, but not great stage racer, who had a disappointing season with his previous team, seemed like a perfect fit for a newly promoted team. Thomas an experienced Brit, with a fine combination of stats and fairly cheap because of his advanced age (plus, a real life Tour winner). And Geoghegan Hart an attractive young rider for a British team. We just weren't prepared to make the kind of offers needed to get either of the Yates twins, but we felt Tao might fly under the radar.

Majka had a very solid season, always between 2nd and 5th plus a top 10 in LBL, he was the captain we hoped for. However, he failed to make the final selection on just about every tough mountain stage, never came close to winning a stage. If there is one thing we wish for next year it'd be one breakout performance, a win against one of the top stage racers.

We kept some money back to train Geoghegan Hart, in hindsight we should have spent twice as much instead of hiring Duarte. Or maybe I'm wrong, because he performed as if we had spent more. He had a few off days, but many more good days. 8th in the Tour, and 9th in the Vuelta which had fiercer competition, just incredible. We'd be more than happy if he simply repeats his performances again next season.

Thomas also performed great. 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 15th in the WT northern classics. 15th in the Ronde, which we thought would suit him the most. More good results in San Remo, in Toowoomba and the Eneco Tour. He also recorded two of our three WT wins this season. We spent money on him, too, to keep him on the same level next year. Still, we think he can't score 1000 points again, he was very lucky, but even half that amount would be fine.

Rocketmen: Stannard, Fuglsang, Schorn, Fernandez

Who would have thought that Stannard would be our 4th best scorer this season? The best among the riders who promoted a season ago. Back in the CT, Fuglsang scored nearly three times as many points, Schorn nearly twice as many, Valgren also outscored him. But Stannard had an excellent autumn, winning the KOM jersey in the Eneco Tour and ranking 2nd in the classification in the Course de la Paix. Plus an impressive 8th in Paris-Tours, keeping up with the best of the best.

Fuglsang's season started so well, but then faded quickly. In fact, quite similar to our CT season, Fuglsang opened by winning Paris-Nice, but then the results just got worse and worse. This season he was 5th in Toowoomba and would never come close to repeating such a feat. Nearly no points from one-day hilly classics, 42nd in the Course de la Paix... the Giro could have seen him finish 11th or even in the top 10 had he not crashed, I'll give him that.

Schorn actually performed better than we feared. The competition at this level is so high, he could easily finish outside the top 20 in mass sprints and the top 50 in one-day races, every time. And sure, he had a lot of those races, but persistence pays off and with a handful of good results he reached 290 points.

Ruben had a fairly anonymous season, with one standout result, 6th overall in Sochi. On paper, he is at least equal to Tao, but he was well and truly beaten by the young Brit. However, we didn't have to rely on him much, he was an investment into next season, when Fuglsang will have left.

Rank and File: Monsalve, Simon, Bibby and all the rest

We are really happy with the three named riders on that list. They were all part of our CT team and all of them managed to double or even triple their amount of points in the WT. They were all very active in breakaways, Monsalve and Simon really solid in the mountains, claiming good GC positions. While Bibby was our best rider in two one-day WT classics.

The opposite is true of Hardy, Valgren and especially Duarte. They all earn well over 300 and have next to nothing to show for it. OK, Hardy and Valgren rode well in our home tour, we won't forget that. But in the WT they were totally outclassed. Probably we'll let them all go.

Dibben can't be entirely happy with his performance either, but he's set to improve. Dowsett was terrible in most ITTs, often outside the top 50. The rest are domestiques who did a lot of work and showed themselved in breakaways, especially Mark Christian also had some good CT results. A slight shame that Stefan van Winden is the only rider to not score a single point, but we are sure he did his job well. All of them could easily stay another year.

Aviva Futura Project Saison Review & Outlook

There's not much to say about the first season of our dev team. It finished 16th out of 22 in the U23 ranking, but the gaps to the teams ahead are very large. We finished in the top 10 only once in a one-day and a stage race each. We expected next to nothing, but at least top signing Gonzalo Garcia should have done better. Here's an overview of race results nobody cares about:

Outlook: None of the 8 riders will be back in the U23 next season, with the possible exception of Fritsch to captain stage races. Garcia turns 24, he might get a spot in the main team, but we didn't make any promises.

Our scout concentrated on Britain this year and took a good look at all 49 available talents. Sadly, there was no top 10 candidate among them. We hired the four best riders riders around, two sprinters, a puncher and a climber. Only one of them, Wayne Richards, is a top talent who should grow into a world class sprinter one day. But he's only 18 years old, so he has a long road ahead. We now have to look at the FA market to bolster the team with slightly older riders who could turn in a few results.

17/11Brugse Zot - Trek looking for new partnerships
Brugse Zot - Trek executives are glad to announce the signing of some of the best talents from the Juniors ranks, and now the team staff will have to take the challenge to follow their development and introduction to the pro peloton.
For their best, the team thought they won't thrown in the melee from day one, are then in progress researches for new partners who want to be part of this project, setting up a development team in strict cooperation with the main team.
At the moment we can't give further information considering that we are still looking around and there were no official meetings with any company, if not our main sponsors De Halve Maan (Brugse Zot's brewery) and Trek, who both confirmed full sponsorships for next season.
Despite knowing few names who will take part of this project, the team roaster will be presented only when there will be an agreement with the new partners, giving them the right stand and visibility, who really deserve in supporting the young cycling movement.

Liberty Seguros signs new talents

Liberty Seguros is proud to announce the signing of three new talents for its U23 development talent, including U21 silver medalist Liu Wenyan from Hong Kong.

The team has also signed sprinter talent José Miguel Patrick from Portugal and Saúl Cermeno from Spain. With the further developed squad, including top talent Alex Ortega, La Fundacion hopes to remain competitive in the U23 rankings.

Last season saw Guillermo Navarette, Giulano Garau and Jaime Garcia blast through the U23 to score big and surprise the Liberty Seguros management with top performances. Alongside Lucio Gonzales, the three are scheduled to join the main team this off season.

Liu Wenyan bids farewell to China

This summer 2019, Hong Kong protests sparked international attention as the Chinese communist party looked to introduce and pass a new security law. Sympathies from western democracies were with Hong Kong and in favor the continuation of the 1 country & 2 systems practice put into place by international law.

Whilst the NBA and corporations shun from critizing China, Liu Wenyan caused a small stir as he bid farewell to his native hometown Hong Kong. Departing to Europe, he was "wishing his fellow Hong Kong people strength in this difficult time."

Shortly after the posting, Chinese censorship reacted but it was too late at this point. Fans of Wenyan in Hong Kong had already distributed the post far and wide.

However, Wenyan admitted he would have much rather moved to the United Kingdom and joined Team BP. But he was forced to accept the outrageous offer Liberty Seguros made. "Spain, China, what's the difference? Sure, I now get a nice paycheck, but am I really free?"

Liu Wenyan immediately knew his decision to join Liberty Seguros was the right one as he exited the airport, experienced the great temperature even in late November, and saw the Spanish girls passing him by.

"Wow, they sure beat those drunken gals in Britain", he thought and was greeted by one of the sport directors who picked him up.

20/11Brugse Zot - Trek, new team jersey catched during training?
Yesterday, a couple of kms from De Haan, along belgian coast, we came across a team of professional riders, and we recognized first two on the line as Jasper Stuyven and Jelle Wallays. Unfortunately, despite the quiet pace, I wasn't enough fast to catch the moment with a bunch picture, but luckily there was a rider (Romain Zingle) following just an hundred of meters behind them! These are the shots. They were wearing a strange version of the team jersey, easy recognizable, but with some minor changes compared to the one used in 2019 season.

First of all we can see that the background colour isn't white but a pale yellow, and there still be rhombuses on sleeves, but this time bigger and more regular ones, just in red and green (yellow disappeared among these details), reminding to a more similar image of the famous jester. Could be new season jersey?

22/11Brugse Zot - Trek finds new partnerships
Team managers are ready to present the partners for the new project in the season 2020. Surprisingly new resources won't be from belgium, but from the near Zeeland.
Team managers entered into an ageement with the former Ronde Van Vlaanderen (1984) winner Johan Lammerts, which carries the support of Omroep Zeeland, a local news emittent.
This is a big step for the team, and probably the high number of dutch talents who signed during the off season brought more visibility in abroad direction. Anyway team sport director was keen to point out that also development team will remain with belgian headquarters, despite team structure and also jersey colour are vary influenced by the dutch unit.

i.imgur.com/okN4TxX.png

Six new under23 talents joined the team in the last signing round, with 3 dutch riders between them, with the two young riders Jorritsma and Lorse, who raced for the main team in the past season, likely joining the development team aswell.

SUNTORY TALENTS

Suntory have signed 3 young talents to replace riders either too old or too good for the U23 Orangina Dev Team.

i.postimg.cc/xdKtN9dZ/Suntory-Talents-ICL20.png

Peter Amiel is a 19 y/o French climber with decent backup stats.

Florian Le Jeune is only 18 but the Belgian already has a strong punch, he needs to work on his backup stats to be competitive.

19 y/o Jonathan Wright is a future TT star with a mountain stat that is not rubbish. He will be guided by fellow Aussie Michael Hepburn and will eventually strengthen our TTT squad.

These three all have a few years in the U23 squad and hopefully will contribute to the defense of our U23 title.

TVM Cycling Team's Year In Review

It was an eventful year for the team, and in this ongoing series of articles we will look back on the highs, lows and everything in between for 2019.

January

As always we started our year in the UAE with the ICL World Tour's sprint-fest.

Palm Classic (WT)

i.imgur.com/Of13hTF.jpeg
Barry Markus in action at the 2019 Palm Classic

There was nothing much to write home about here. We have never been one of the top sprint teams in the World Tour, but there was some excitement with Shahrizal Shafeeq starting his first race for the main team. Elmar Reinders was our best finisher in 32nd place as Marcel Kittel claimed an incredible 4th victory.

Tour d'Indonesia (CT.2)

There was no time to rest for Shafeeq, Lindeman and Schoonbroodt as they were racing in Indonesia just three days later. This race has some significance in our team's history, as Nick van der Lijke scored our first ever stage victory here in 2015.

After a disappointing first two stages it was apparent that we had no chance for the GC, so the team went about chasing breakaways. Kristjan Koren achieved a nice 3rd place on stage 3's individual time trial, surprising many of the pundits.

i.imgur.com/kQmkomF.jpg
Former Slovenian National Champion Kristjan Koren shines on stage 3

Bob Schoonbroodt got into a break on day 4 and matched his team-mate's effort with another third placing behind the new points leader Marek Konwa. Stage 5 saw Hoogerland get his chance but he was sadly caught just before the finish. Following a tough mountain time trial on stage 6, Kristjan finished as our best performer in 23rd overall.

Tour of Toowoomba (WT)

Our first World Tour stage race of the season would also play host to our first victory celebration. Tom-Jelte Slagter repeated his past successes in Australia, the team leader delivering big with a win on the opening day to take both the points and leader's jerseys.

i.imgur.com/9lTmJQN.jpg
Tom-Jelte Slagter claims victory Down Under

It would be a short-lived race lead however, as a Dylan van Baarle-led TTT squad could only limit our losses to 23 seconds on stage 2. Stage 3's 12th placing saw Slagter move back into the top ten but an attempt to follow the favourites on stage 4 backfired - the deficit to Matej Mohoric ballooning out to more than two minutes.

Stage 5 saw another top ten finish but the GC was unchanged. A 25th placing overall and 5th in the points classification rounded out a largely disappointing month for the team, but there were plenty of reasons to be positive about the future with Mollema and Dumoulin set to start their seasons next month.

Wins: 1 (Tour of Toowoomba Stage 1, Tom-Jelte Slagter)

TVM Cycling Team's Year In Review

February

Vuelta a Mallorca (CT.1)

Beñat Intxausti made his team debut as we travelled to Mallorca to begin February. Stage 1 saw Tan Peng place himself in the breakaway, but after a late split in the peloton only Van Emden remained with Intxausti in the front group. Beñat impressed on stage 3, finishing 10th to give us a chance at a high overall finish.

After another strong performance on the final stage, Intxausti finished in 10th overall. A solid result from our leader on debut, giving us some confidence heading into Pais Vasco.

i.imgur.com/RXBFaKS.png
Fan-favourite Johnny Hoogerland on the attack in stage 4

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco (WT)

Team leaders Bauke Mollema and Tom Dumoulin both made their long-awaited return for the 2019 season, with the former aiming to repeat his victory in 2018. There were promising sings on stage 1, with Mollema finishing in 5th place behind a small group of attackers led by the in-form Matej Mohoric.

Reinders achieved a 6th placing on stage 2 as Mollema continued to follow any attempted attacks. It wouldn't take long for these tactics to pay off as the reigning champ took stage 3 to give himself a 39-second lead over Majka heading into the second half of the race.

i.imgur.com/0EpackJ.jpg
Mollema tears away from his rivals to claim stage 3

A late Mohoric attack on day 4 proved too much for Dumoulin to handle, but a late counter-attack from Bauke saw him retain second place overall. After little movement to the overall standings on Stage 5, it all came down to the time-trial with Mollema trailing by under half a minute. Unsurprisingly, Dutch national champion Dumoulin starred to take the stage win but all eyes were on the top 4 to see if Pinot, Kwiatkowski or Mollema could gain enough time.

An incredible effort from Kwiatkowski saw him jump ahead of Mollema, but Mohoric limited his losses enough to claim the overall victory. Although it wasn't the result we were hoping for, two stage wins and a 3rd placing on GC was an excellent way for our star duo to kick off their year.

National Capital Tour (CT.2)

With the race running concurrently with the Basque showcase, we sent a slightly undermanned side to Canberra. José Gonçalves finished 8th in the prologue and looked set for a good tour, only to suffer a nasty fall on stage 2 and spend the rest of the race at the rear of the peloton.

Elsewhere, Koen Bekker showed some good signs on the mountain top finish to stage 3 to claim 5th place in the youth classification. Chad Haga finished in 24th overall but it was an underwhelming race for our team. The riders were buoyed by the efforts of their counterparts in Europe however, with the team gathering in a packed hotel room to cheer on Tom to his final stage victory before heading back home to prepare for the classics season.

March

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (WT)

March began with the traditional cobbled classic where Daniel Oss would lead our team after a great 5th placing last season. Kristjan Koren excited the race by getting in a three-man breakaway group, but Oss was unable to match the sprint power of Peter Sagan and finished in 18th.

Strade Bianche (WT)

The white roads of Tuscany were the first time that two of our young stars would be unleashed on the World Tour stage for 2019 - Ian Boswell and the enigmatic Eldir Moreira. It wasn't to be our day however, with Mollema our best finisher in 20th.

Vuelta a Tachira (WT)

Robert Gesink had his first race of the year as he joined Mollema and Boswell for the trip to South America. Mollema immediately put the other contenders on notice by securing three top 10 finishes in as many days, but stage 3 would have even more reason for celebration as Nick Van der Lijke took a victory from the breakaway.

The next three stages followed a similar pattern with Lindeman and Gesink both making appearances in the break, while Mollema continued to keep up with the group of favourites. He lost some time on the summit of stage 5 before making it up again, narrowly beaten to the line by Contador and Betancur on stage 6. Strong team performances saw us take the lead in the teams' classification, with Boswell and Gesink both improving with more time on the bike.

Close, but not quite enough for Bauke

Stage 7 saw another 3rd placing as Bauke led the peloton sprint, before disaster struck on the antepenultimate day when he couldn't match the top climbers. It was up to Boswell now and the American delivered big time by slotting into the top ten and even pushing the top three contenders on the queen stage. His efforts would prove crucial as we claimed the teams' classification by just 30" over Sevilla, with Ian our best finisher in 8th overall and Bauke 14th

Istrian Spring Trophy (CT.1)

It was a tense start for us as Lindeman and Hoogerland only just made it to the prologue in time, having travelled directly from the Venezuela the night before. If they were feeling sore, they certainly didn't show it with Bert-Jan providing great support for team leader Kristjan Koren on stage 2 before Johnny went on the attack the following day. The highlight of a quiet tour came on the final day when Tan Peng joined the break to claim 22nd place overall.

Milano - Sanremo (WT)

While the others put in a brave performance in Croatia, it was a disappointing day for our sprinters in northern Italy. Barry Markus and local hero Daniel Oss both missed the crucial move as Mark Cavendish repeated his victory from 10 years earlier.

E3 Prijs Vlaanderen - Harelbeke (WT)

We finished the month the same way it started, returning to Belgium for two more one-day classics. Daniel Oss was again our leader and performed admirably, finishing 'best of the rest' in 13th despite limited support.

Gent - Wevelgem (WT)

The second of three Flemish World Tour races was less successful, ending a disappointing month for the team. Sinkeldam's 33rd placing was over 7 minutes behind eventual winner Arnaud Demare, a performance he himself described as "not what we want to be known for". We looked to put this failure behind us going into April.

@Ripley: Thanks mate, I'm going to try and finish the season reviews over the next couple of weeks. I've been lucky so far that our riders appeared in a lot of the race screenshots, only had to take stills from the YT clips twice.

TVM Cycling Team's Year In Review

April

April was certainly not our best month, with the team going winless for the first time in 2019. We started the month where we left off, with the Tour of Flanders.

Ronde van Vlaanderen (WT)

Freezing conditions were not enough to stop Bob Schoonbroodt getting in the break, but it was a futile attempt as the strongmen of Filliers and Peugeot shut the race down. Oss came from a long way back to sprint into a respectable 10th place as Van Keirsbulck went back-to-back.

Ster ZLM Tour (WT)

Back on home soil for the first time, we came in to the race with high hopes for our sprinters to come away with some good results. It was not to be however, with the likes of Greipel and Bouhanni proving to be too good for us. Lindeman and Schoonbroodt made a couple of breakaways, but a 15th placing from Oss on stage 5 was as close as we got.

Paris - Roubaix (WT)

With pressure mounting on the team's leaders to perform, Jetse Bol went on the attack early. Sadly, it would be a similar result as we had seen in the past with Oss left isolated with around 40km left to go. Lindeman's 16th placing was too little, and far too late.

Giro del Trentino (CT.1)

The climbing men got their first chance for the month, with former race winner Intxausti set to lead the team as part of his farewell season. But this race was all about another former winner and current world champion - Fabio Aru. The Italian won the final three stages with only Romain Bardet able to offer any competition. While our best finisher was Beñat in 11th, most of the squad got a chance to attack and it was a good warm-up ahead of the grand tours.

Rheden GP (CT.2)

Meanwhile, we sent a 7-man squad to compete in the local classic event. Tan Peng aimed to repeat his previous 4th place finish by getting in an early move, but was unable to survive to the end. Lindeman and Shafeeq both finished just outside the top 10 as we continued to fall short of expectations.

Trofeo Campania (WT)

In spite of poor recent form, we had every reason to be confident of a strong result in this showcase for time-trialists. Tom Dumoulin was the defending champion, while van Baarle was considered an outside chance for a placing. While Dylan was unable to challenge the top times, Tom rode a hard pace and received the silver medal, just 4 seconds behind Tobias Ludvigsson in first. While it was a hard loss to take, we were glad to finally score some more valuable points after a recent drought.

Amstel Gold Race (WT) *FOCUS RACE*

Now for the big test. Our first focus race for the year was not only on home soil, but we had a big contender in Bauke Mollema. Kristjan Koren got himself in the break and was well positioned to help out for the finish as one of the last remaining domestiques. The final sections of the course did not prove selective enough for Bauke to have an impact though, with the team having to settle for 11th and 15th.

Koren was at the head of the race with just 25km to go

La Flèche Wallonne (WT)

Climbers Koen Bekker and Ian Boswell were added to the team for the next two races, with a tougher profile for the final two Belgian classics.

This time it was Tan Peng who got in the early move, and the man from Taiwan did not disappoint. With only just over 10kms to go, his group of four had a 1'40 gap back to the contenders. Sadly for us, the quartet was chased down in the closing minutes with Kwiatkowski taking the win. Boswell was our best finisher in 17th, with Peng, Mollema and Oss finishing just behind.

Liège - Bastogne - Liège (WT)

Our final chance for the month proved to be the most underwhelming of all. Mollema won this race in 2016, finished runner up the next year and 10th in 2018 but was largely unsighted in this edition. Boswell and Slagter were not much better, with neither challenging for a high position as Warren Barguil cruised to victory.

Whether it was a lack of teamwork, preparedness or just not having the talent required, it's fair to say this month was disastrous. Dumoulin aside, the team were left in doubt by the sponsors and the fans alike that they must do better.
