It's really nice to see my team active in the breaks for a change
Also Smith with a very good result finishing in front of some better climbers. I hope he can keep up this performance so that this can be transformed into some points! |

First time?
Let's just hope this was just an off day, considering we lost time to some worse riders...

This stage favoured the climbers more than previously anticipated.
Anticipated by whom though? The rule of thumb is that if the decisive part of the stage can't be ridden at 90+ effort on average, it's a stage suiting the climbers.
Case in point here, congrats Pluchkin! The aggressive strategy paid off.

I agree that it suits them more than the puncheurs. When the finale is as lame as last year (where Bakelants was 3rd, and Skuijns and Bobridge were in the Top 15), the puncheurs have their chances as well, but if Plu-beast & Co. push hard, obviously they can't keep up - as roturn explained it.
Stages 5 and 6 should now favor the puncheurs (or breakaways ), while 7 can go either way I guess.

Good enough performance by Talansky and basically everyone else in the team! Hoping the gang can keep their current spots in the GC and it will have been a successful Volta basically Thanks for the report Abhi.

Another ok result, if we can keep this GC until the TT we can still get close to a top 5.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Not ideal to see Gesink lose the wheel of Lopez and Pluchkin in Srª da Graça, but he showed a better performance in the climb to Stª Luzia. Too bad Pluchkin is already in yellow. If he can't be beaten in the hills it's surely not the mountain or the TT stages who are going to crash his hopes.
Congrats to the winners of the last stages.
Beautiful coverage so far Abi, thanks!

Another strong ride by my guys. Trying to take my chances forcing a selection before the final twice - first a 20 men group with 6 of our guys and then a 8 men group with 3 guys is awesome and i happily sacrifice my team classification lead for that.
In the end 3rd on the day is pretty good - 6th top4 stage result in 5 days is excellent. Bit disappointed by the depth results woth Vosekalns and Tvetcov performing a bit worse than anticipated. But claiming the KoM for now is very cool and Lopez is still 2nd in points so that works out nicely too.
GC wise it looks okay although id like to get a bit more of a gap towards Gesink, Kudus and the other stage racers right behind them to not get any big surprises on the last two stages.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Let's be real, your team didn't force anything, that was just PCM's random gaps on the flat.

 We got a stage win!!!
Fantastic ride by Gilanipoor. It seemed like he was completely focused and measured his effort to perfection Not sure if he'll be allowed to get in more breaks now to compete for that KOM jersey due to being just 3'38'' down in GC. He may be better off just getting the best GC spot he can.
Giogieri had a decent day today, so he still has a chance at the KOM being way down in GC and Ablenado has been awful so far. Hopefully targetting the big mountain stage
One more notable result and we can call this race a success
Thanks for the awesome report Abhi

Hmm, that time loss felt a bit unnecessary, De Plus should take better care of Oomen.

Another good stage for Lopez. I'm afraid Gesink doesn't have enough in him to challenge the leading duo which is a bit of a letdown. At least he is being consistent and reliable.
Interesting stage, even if wierd, given how top puncheurs like Bobridge, Gautier losing ground on unexpected parts. Congrats on the victory, red! Nice one from Gilanipoor!

A win and 2 thirds so far, I consider it a decent performance. Intxausti keeps falling down the standings, but hopefully the final TT will help him move back up to top 20, unless stage 8 somehow works for him with minimal support

With the team I sent here I expect to be part of such breaks. Azman dropping far out of the top 30 and Smith loosing time makes it even worse. Another race where my team doesn't achieve its expectations and they weren't even high. |

A bit strange (or stupid?) to see Masnada be the highest finisher for Generali on stage 6, while Talansky loses a few seconds... You can lead the team next year, Fausto, but for now, please help your leader!
Gesink is really disappointing so far, he definitely shouldn't lose time to Pluchkin on these hilly stages. Great move by Lopez to claim the leader jersey, on the other hand!

Its quite awkward to claim the GC lead and still feel like i lost a bit on that stage but thats how i feel right now:
- 9s gain on Kudus, Choi, Gesink etc is not enough. Even a clearly struggling Oomen lost only 27s
- Barely any stage points on the stage due to the break
- Lopez kicked out of the top3 in the kom classification
- Lopez barely gaining points for the points classification
Still getting the temporary lead is good but i feel like the situation should be better considering the remaining stages. And its great to see how aggressive Lopez is. Thats very promising for every further race and the rest of this one.

Depends on how greedy he'll be during renewals
A Top 30 in Portugal surely wouldn't lower his wage expectations :S
