As always: Dan Martin good on the Mur de Huy
Great win for Hirschi and also very happy to see Cosnefroy at 2nd place, especially after the job AG2R put in towards the end.

Dan Martin and horrendous positioning. Name a more iconic duo.
Dude was like 40 riders back starting the climb and had to constantly jump across gaps as guys pulled off. What the hell is he doing? If he could just start in a good position a single time, he'd have a win in this race by now.
Still nice to see him in 5th with good legs after a bad Tour. First time in a while. Good sign for Liege Sunday. He's listed on the provisional startlist for the Vuelta too on PCS. Interested to see what he could do there.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Amstel Gold Race has now been cancelled following the ban of any crowds at sporting events in the Netherlands.

I'm a bit torn about this one, has there been a cyclist with Coronavirus since racing started again? Cyclist are so careful of their health, I'm willing to put money that there won't be a major outbreak until the end of the season. Footbal players are just careless and cause all thiscommotion, same shit from Djokovic but I really believe cycling can be safe.
Really nice from Hirschi, although this has to be the weakest startlist in ages.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yes, plenty of riders with coronavirus since the restart. Most between races, but iirc you had both Magnus Cort and Wisniowski during Tirreno-Adriatico.

I think the problem is less the cyclists and more that the organizers have to ensure the "no public" regulation from the government, or get some kind of sanctions (I assume). The race director said that it wasn't feasible to ensure no public and that's why they canceled.

This. You just can't have policemen form a 200km long zone free of people.
But cyclists being considered less covid-prone than any other athlete is quite a baffling generalization

Cavendish on the breakway in Gent-Wevelgem. Biggest achievement in like two years or so. |

Well, reason for this could have been that Cav’s planning his retirement after today’s race... according to an interview after the end of GW. |

What a great race GW was today and was how a Flanders Classic should be. All the big names were there shooting it out at the end. The best classic of the season so far with Strade Bianche.

Cav can go out anyway he likes after his career. The best sprinter of all time (@ me, i'll argue this all day!) has got Scheldeprijs on Wednesday. Which was also his first race win at Elite level back in 2007. It would take a miracle for win this time around, but i will be in tears that evening whatever happens.

@TMM Freddy Maertens - 13 stage wins in the 1977 Vuelta, 2x World champion, pretty much every minor classic and he did all of this while competing with Eddy Merckx, the greatest cyclist of all time.
On topic, would be sad to see him go like this. I think he still had some good years left in him, but a crazy Slovakian and a nasty virus (no, not that one) decided otherwise.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Anyway, today could be Mark Cavendish's final race in the professional peloton. Such a shame that the final few years of his career were ruined by illness. The first half of his career alone makes him arguably the greatest sprinter of all time. Would have been interesting to see if he could have beaten Merckx's record at full fitness.

Another weird ass dangerous sprint in the Scheldeprijs, this time by Ackermann... What is up with all these dangerous sprints happening? Didn't what happen to Jakobsen make people learn nothing? |
