That was scary. They must not go easy on Groenewegen but downhill sprints are stupid. This is just too much, a year ago we saw Lambrecht leave us too soon, hope everyone is okay. |

I'm making a guess here that the finish was also supposed to be a lot wider, but they left quite a gap for Corona measures (pointless if you see how close the crowd is). Let's hope everyone is ok, really not the best way to remember Bjorg
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Wow, exactly one year after that... crash
Also from Polish twitter, DQ almost confirmed for Groenewegen according to Czesław Lang words. |

Nothing wrong with the sprint finish, just some disgusting sprint etiquette from Groenewegen cutting up Jakobsen like that

Should be banned for the rest of the season.

Now I'm no sprint-etiquette expert at all, so I'm just honestly wondering whether Dylan really pushed Jakobsen into the barriers.
Jakobsen tries to overtake Dylan on the right leaving little room for Dylan to maneuver. They bump into each other and Dylan in order to keep his balance tilts towards Jakobsen which pushed him into the barriers.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Jakobsen comes through when there was still enough room to do so in the right. In turn, Groenewegen has plenty of room to maneuver to the left, there was nobody at all. That move was dangerous and crazy by Groenewegen and he should be ashamed.

Yeah that makes sense

Bit of both obviously. We've seen maneuvers like that before already, but usually they don't end up nowhere near as bad. Groenewegen still should be banned for a long time. Hope everyone turns out okay. |

Decided to delete the videos/pics from the thread. Already enough coverage on social media.
So please don't post this kind of footage here for now. |

And it's official Groenewegen is disqualified and IMO rightfuly so, because if he wasn't people will say that Sagan was disqualified from Le Tour in 2017 for LESS. And IMO Jakobsen's stage win is pretty much meaningless, because he won't be racing for the remainder of the race anyway and DQS are left scrambling without their sprint leader.

That was horrible. I wish I didn't see that. Hope Jakobsen survives this.
Edit: Jakobsen's situation is stable. So far it doesn't look like there is damage to the brain or spinal cord, but they will further investigate and come with a diagnose tomorrow.
Edit2: also, there really needs to be some sort of rule for sprint finishes. These sprint finishes on narrow roads with fences to the side won't do anymore. Safety must improve.

Looking from another perspective the fences didn’t seem much safe or stable enough. Of course sustaining an impact around 80km/h is nearly impossible given the circumstances, but still looked feeble from the organization.
Hope Fabio can make it. |

You can't judge the action from the result imo. Sure this was a horrible crash, but we've seen worse maneuvers, just with less effect. The DQ is correct, but this wasn't intentionally harmful by Dylan. The crash was very unlucky and the outcome even more so.
Get well soon, Fabio!

I dont think so, the maneuvre was absolutely reckless, and reminded me of the tashkent terror himself. He literally boxes him into the barriers.
glad to hear jakobsen is stable and seems.to be over the hill. would have been a shame to lose him.

A friend of mine once suffered a very similar crash. She was left in a coma for about a week and stayed in hospital for a couple of weeks to recover. Let's hope Fabio has the same result...
Scariest crash I remember seeing as a cycling fan, and I think the UCI should look both into the sprint rules (hell, we've seen many times riders doing this type of behaviour that Groenewegen did, but without this type of consequence) and into the stage design. Putting a sprint finish in a downhill is dangerous as all hell. |

what I can see are Groenewegen who makes a guilty move, but not worse than hundreds of other sprints, some barriers too weak, and a really unlucky Jakobsen.
That said, I agree with Croatia that this DSQ is deserved but came just by the result of the crash. Maybe they should use iron fist more frequently to avoid these situations?
