Chrono des Herbiers Preview
Welcome to the Chrono des Herbiers, the premier Time-Trial event of the MG calendar, outside of the World Championships. This race has been on the calendar since 2008 and on the PT schedule since it's second edition in 2009. The top time-trialists of the PT have gathered to try to stop Taylor Phinney from making it a four-peat! Speaking of the defending champion, he is once again the odds-on favourite to clinch the race win. Marlen Zmorka is the only other former winner who starts this year. Among the other winners, only two-time former winner Jerome Coppel still rides, but he is currently in the PCT.
The race, originally scheduled for July, has been pushed back because of logistical reasons, and will be ridden across two parts, where only the aggregate time will count towards the final result.
| FLA | TT | STA | RES | Phinney | 73 | 83 | 77 | 74 | Fiedler | 79 | 83 | 75 | 76 | Keizer | 72 | 81 | 75 | 79 | Kritskiy | 75 | 80 | 78 | 76 | Zmorka | 74 | 82 | 74 | 75 | Würtz | 76 | 80 | 76 | 77 | Cattaneo | 70 | 79 | 76 | 80 | Paillot | 70 | 80 | 75 | 74 | Sergent | 79 | 80 | 69 | 74 | Uran | 72 | 78 | 75 | 81 | Lammertink | 74 | 80 | 70 | 76 | Brändle | 75 | 79 | 73 | 73 | Cataford | 74 | 79 | 75 | 75 | Yatsevich | 70 | 80 | 76 | 81 | Vlatos | 72 | 81 | 73 | 71 | Sütterlin | 71 | 80 | 73 | 77 | Howson | 71 | 80 | 73 | 74 |
There are certain uphill and downhill kilometers on the course, and this has been factored in while deciding the list of favourites.
As mentioned previously, Taylor Phinney remains the top favourite for this year's edition as well. His stamina and better ability to handle inclines gives him an edge over the rest of the peloton.
His closest competition, and an absolute beast on the flats, is Fiedler. T-Mobile's battles with relegation continue, and they will be hoping Fiedler delivers the goods in this race.
Keizer and Kristskiy are slower than the above mentioned duo but are their other abilities make them a good bet for a top result in this race. Both teams are more or less stuck in midfield at the moment and will be looking to get a push towards moving higher up in the table.
Another rider representing a team battling with relegation is Marlen Zmorka. Although one of the best when it comes to time-trials, his slightly lower stamina and poor ability on inclines might make him somewhat handicapped in a race like this.
Up-and-comer Wurtz will be keen to show his worth against the best of the PT division. Still developing, and with the potential to become one the top favourites for
next season, this could very well turn out to be his coming-of-age moment in the peloton.
Cattaneo is yet another rider carrying the PT future of his team on his shoulders. He's quite a bit off when it comes to top speed when it comes to his rivals, but he will hope that his support stats can make the difference over the long and arduous course.
Paillot is a name that has is always in among the favourites for a race like this. He doesn't look likely to contest for a top spot, but his consistency should keep him contention for a Top 10 or even a Top 5 finish.
Jesse Sergent is another flat specialist time-trialist, who rides for yet another relegation threatened team, Podium Ambition. Their survival prospects look difficult at the moment, but a good result here will keep the pressure on those above. His poor stamina might become a cause for concern in this long race.
Not generally known for his pure time-trial skills, Uran, much like Cattaneo will be hoping his support stats and climbing abilities help him overcome some of the pure time-trialing competition.
Among the others, Lammertink, Yatsevich, Vlatos, Sutterlin and Howson are pure time-trialists for whom this is one of the targets of the season. Brandle is a capable climber on top of his abilities against the clock, while Cataford is a slightly weaker version of the same. Expect these riders to be fighting for the Top 10 places.

Top5-10 is possible but seeing how Paillot has performed in TTs this season, it smells more like top15-20 as his strength only comes in more difficult stage races.
Fiedler vs Zmorka "vs Cattaneo" it more is.
Thanks for taking over the race! |

Cattaneo being in quotation marks really sums up my feelings about our future being in his hands
Hopefully he can take a top 10 here, although I don't know if the Mountain stat will come into play as there doesn't seem to be much of the route which is above 5%. The aim basically has to be to outscore SPAR and not lose too much to Repsol and T-Mobile, which is easier said than done. |

Hoping for a good race! Anything other than a podium would be poor for Phinney, and hopefully Würtz can challenge for a top 5.

Being two TT's, hopefully randomness isn't high, so Zmorka should take a podium here. Whether he can attack the 83's will be down to some luck, but more importantly, that as Jph said, mountain stat doesn't come into play. If it does, even just for a few kms, Zmorka is out of the podium and Gonzalez Salas doesn't have a Top10 shot

Doesn't look completely flat, so maybe Bibby can actually do decent.

Congrats to SPAR on staying up, utterly embarrassing from Cattaneo. |

That was more than solid from Vangstad!
And T-Mobile kicking in desperation for survival, eventhough they must have hoped for second place here, ahead of Keizer.
Congratulations on the win, tastasol! |

As a wildcard I cannot be unhappy with any result. Uran and JvR doing the best they can but the field is super strong. Congrats tastasol!

I kept looking but I did not find anything to complain about in this result. Brändle and Van Winden both with a respectable race and Leung also decent. Thanks for the great report Abhishek! |

Thanks for the congratulations, ember and Marco! Great performance from Phinney, finishing his season on a high! Good second run by Wurtz as well and in the end a fairly good result for him also. Thanks for the report, Abhishek!

Nope he couldn't. We hardly scored here.
Congrats tastasol. Grieg are looking like the top contender for PT second place now.

When we were looking into that desired podium place and "reality" struck us hard. What a fucking disgrace of second TT for Zmorka that was...

Sütterlin's last opportunity of the season for us, or maybe ever? I'd surely love a good result to not be too reliant on a surprise Lombardia against our direct rivals up there.
But yeah, quite a joke first stage again, and even a much better second stage can't make up for that and 15th is the bare minimum in the end. Not severely underperforming, but there were 80TT riders all the way up to 7th overall.
I'm just happy most of our direct rivals didn't score well either. Obviously, Grieg are deservedly gone with this.
