That was much better from Tvetcov! Hopefully that inspires him going forward in this race. Suspect positioning will be key on the next three stages to avoid any time loss, especially those two stages finishing with a short, short climb. Seeing how he has done positioning wise so far, I fear both stages, but hopefully he can prove me wrong. This was definitely a step in the right direction! |

Watching the team here is basically watching our whole season in one race, everything's going worse than planned and we just want it to be over, we couldn't even OOTL and get to the next one.
Amazing report again though Fabianski, hopefully next season we'll be able to redeem ourselves and get attention for the right reasons.

Meintjes has lost no time to the real GC contenders and sits well in the GC. Still, I'm a little disappointed though, he really went too early and now we dont sit in yellow... a missed opportunity IMO and I feel every bonus second would count in our fight with Monsalve

Pretty good stage obviously with a podium from Bennett, a really good sprint considering his not so great positioning - the opposite of yesterday's going too early, hopefully he finds a balance and fixes his positioning in the coming stages. Looking in decent shape and grabbing some bonuses to move to 5th on GC is ok, need more time obviously with the TT at the end of the race but a few stages still to do that. Not sure if he would have been able to follow Monsalve if he was at the front when he launched his sprint, but it does seem they made similar ground overall in the last km (although Bennett was in drafts through the pack). Oh well, a good result anyway, Monsalve's form looks scary though and 22 seconds lost isn't great.
Really annoying obviously to see Houle lose time in that fashion - it is the downside to turning off crashes that punctures' effect is so pronounced. Glad it wasn't Bennett but it still stripped us of a helper and probably 6 intermediate points in the sprint competition - hopefully that won't be the difference between positions later on

I almost wish there was a puncture frequency slider that we could turn up like there is for crashes. Once we got rid of crashes, the few punctures became deadly. If we made them as frequent as crashes used to be, it would be normalized again. But they still wouldn't cause injuries or abandonment.

Tvetcov just about surviving that hilly stage, eventhough his positioning was non-existent. Hopefully he gets that he needs to improve on that.
Congratulations on the win, jph! If this is the start of a big points haul for Monsalve and the team, surely one must fancy Farfetch' chances of surviving. |

I guess we'll have to fight for KOM and/or points ranking now, as we're slowly throwing away all chances GC-wise. Really hope to see Caruso in tomorrows break though, it will be vital to hold on to the jersey |

Yeah exactly, the fewer incidents we have the worse the ones that do occur are.

I've been quiet for the past few days due to being busy with behind the scenes stuff, but a Monsalve win is more than worth coming back to post for! Hopefully he can extend his lead on some of the other summit finishes and make a tilt at the points jersey (and maybe even the KoM).
My only concern is that if he leads into the Mountain stage he may not follow attacks, and instead rely on Carthy - who is having an absolute shocker, which won't help us in the relegation fight even if Monsalve holds on for the win.
Superb reports as ever Fabianski, dreading having to post Baltic Chain at the same time as you |

This looks more and more like the race where Farfetch can turn the odds in the relegation fight

Bah, we just can't seem to get it right...
Just a small thing. The reports are amazing, but I would like it if the results was in the first post. On my iPad/iPhone it jumps to the last post, and sometimes it also shows the contents of the "spoiler", so I need to be aware of not looking until after some time, otherwise I am presented to the stage winner as the very first thing.

Positive to be in the break again, but it’s clear that Stuyven isn’t strong enough that we can count on him to win the KoM jersey. Hope to see Vichot active again on the next stage.

I'd propose another solution: What about posting all the results in a separate Thread (Volta a Portugal - Results)? We'd not even need spoilers then, and I could copy them into the stage threads once the race done, and delete the results thread afterwards. Would that be OK?

I just realised due to this stage that our loaned out rider Frankiny has been quietly having a decent race so there is at least a silver lining there for the team, he should be a pretty decent addition when he comes back to us next season.

I wouldn't mind keeping him, he does very well in our colours but seriously, why does on every stage always our best GC rider loose time? Guerreiro, Jaramillo, Frankiny all had one off-stage, so now Augustyn is our best one
Great ride by young gun Aleksander Roman today!

That was great by Tvetcov! Even having Pruus as a domestique in the final kilometers there, very well done by the team.
Now there's only one more of these tricky hilly stages, at least judging by the profiles, before the final two key stages. If Tvetcov somehow can manage to keep the gaps in the GC small, he could do very well here with the final TT.
But now, I really want to see us join the breakaway fun too we're too much of a mediocre team here compared to other teams to not join!
And thank you again for the great reports, Fabianski. |

Very quiet day for us, not great and not bad though losing green isn't good obviously, hopefully there is room to get it back and at least maintain a podium spot ahead of the GC guys for Houle. Happy for Monsalve that he got back from the puncture fairly well, would have been a crappy thing to have happened!
