Evonik - ELKO’s main goal today was to limit the time losses of Lopez, and maybe not finish last.

You don't know them well enough it seems Pfft They surely fulfilled their objective Cool

Happy with that TTT. Gaining time on Sicard is great and losing to Phinney was expected. Strong win tastasol; congrats.

Tomorrow the first real mountain stage. It's the first of seven and we have to use every single one of them to the fullest. Madrazo's advantage only exists in stages with sustained climbing. Anything more bursty or with too much flat allows guys like Sicard to stay with him or even drop him.

I hope we can turn the stage into a war of attrition and avoid the "joy ride + sprint up the final mountain" scenario.

Evonik is on paper possibly the worst team time trialing squad here, so it seems likely that we see a new man in the white jersey at the end of the day, possibly Repsol’s Ndayisenga. On the other hand, they are a very close-knit group who already finishes close to each other yesterday, surely in preparation for today, so they might actually be pretty tough to beat.

Love your last second edit Cunego! Much appreciated <3

Really hope that we now start to go really aggressive on the next stages hunting for stages and KoM. I'd expect that Vosekalns already starts to go for it tomorrow as he has lost otherwise unexplainable much on the early stages. Wouldnt mind Lopez to attack already but reckon it might be too early for that.

HOW THE FUCK DOES SERGENT GET DROPPED IN A TTT!!!!!!!

We came to this race with a very simple target: Do well in the TTT, and try to get Ricki to contest a sprint or two.
We've failed even these f*cking pathetic targets. Christ, just drop me to CT already because we are the worst PT team to have ever existed Angry

He didn't, it's that weird PCM thing where only the five first riders of a team get the same time as the first one crossing the line (although weirdly in your case it were six), and the riders in sixth, seventh and eigth get around 2-6 seconds because they're timed against the first. That's why Sicard and Phinney also "lost" a few seconds to their teammates, as tastasol mentioned.

I'm definately not unhappy. We could probably have been better looking at how things went, but losing these figures to my biggest rivals in a TTT is prette satisfying actually

Yeah, makes sense. It's a bit tricky to value TTT results I think, and I had you 12th in the "TTT rankings", so I thought 15th was a bit disappointing, but in terms of time gaps it was solid, that's true.

I mean, if finishing last was in fact their goal, then they didn't even do that right Pfft

It's quite funny to me that the first four stages went so well for Demare that we still score 2 ranking points from his GC position after finishing third to last in this TTT. Pfft

Even just a mediocre TTT squad could've actually been enough to keep him in the jersey for an extra day, but we had just one goal for today and I'm happy we achieved that: don't drop Arndt without slowing down too much.

Back in PCM15, he likely would've been dropped even by this bad lineup and finished 7-8 minutes down, so to have him at just 3 minutes from the lead after this stage is great.

Thank you cunego for this great report, and congrats Grieg!
And yes, the time loss past the 5th rider in TTTs is an unfortunate side effect of the time gap settings of 1s in the stage files, it's the same in 19 still.

I doubt tomorrow will see a big or strong breakaway already, so it's probably not Arndt time just yet. Let's see how his form is atm.
I do hope that Sicard won't be able to convert this jersey into quite a result like Demare did, for green jersey reasons.

A decent TTT in the end. Not sure I could have asked for more. Hopefully Dombrowski will do good in the mountains and the first stages have shown us that he means business here.

A bad TTT but was expected, Machado has climbed well so far and that's what will be decisive in the end, all about consistency and clawing back the places now. Thanks cunego for all the reports so far!

Grieg nailed that TTT, congratulations, tastasol! Though, it only adds tension for the upcoming mountain stage, as whoever wears yellow after that one must be favourite to keep it at least until the TT on stage 13.

Fingers crossed we continue to show ourselves in breakaways on the upcoming stages. Surely we're getting closer to the point where every stage feels like a golden opportunity for the breakaway? Pfft

Solid TTT, I guess. Morton not too far behind the other contenders. Except of Sicard, of course, who's a beast these days.

Thrilling finish and a great result for Phinney. A day later than we hoped, but now in yellow. Hopefully he can keep it all the way to the ITT.

The team looked strong as well, and even though the breaks will probably make it hard to keep on coming stages, it's great to be leading the team classification.

Congrats on the stage win, tsmoha! Looks to be an exciting race this.

This was a really bad stage by Velits. Though can`t give him a lot of fault really seeing Dekker and Koep as main helpers were dropped far earlier already, surely resulting in Velits having to get water by himself at least once.

Big one for Morton. Really having a nice rhytm right now while Sicard at least limited the loss, which could have become a lot more.

Other than that kind of the expected order strength wise. Schleck obviously were unlucky.

Frison saving it for another mountain stage while Koep might even be the protection for Groenewegen it seems looking at the result, which is a bit annoying when Velits could have needed help today.

Not bad from Monsalve, but I have many questions about why Carthy lost so much time - he finished about 4-5 minutes down on the riders I would have expected him to be around. Hopefully he'll go in breaks now, but we saw in the Vuelta that doesn't seem to happen as it should.

A team attack, I like that. Jaramillo completely invisible though, I don't really know why. Seems like he should be transfered to PCT or CT next year to work his great skillset.

Fantastic stage for us. Getting two classification jerseys at this point is awesome and the white jersey looks set to stay here for a while. The KoM jersey looks much more in danger to be lost soonish with it being quite close and the mext stages not suiting Vosekalns well but hopefully those points guarantee that he will try again soonish and frequently.

The moment, where Lachlan Morton went for his first stage win for Bennelong! Definitely a statement made by him and a great ride on that final climb. Obviously a long way to go, but a great day for the team. Thanks for the report Smile

Morton was flying today. Good thing Dombrowski tried to keep up with him. It's good to see he's active, but quite disappointed with they way he cracked at the end there. It could have easily turned into a bigger time lose.

Also, it seems I might have the strongest trio in the mountains so the teams classification might be on the table. It would be nice to get it since I don't think I've ever won it in the Tour. Only Giro and Vuelta so far, iirc.

Very interesting first outing for the climbers!
Especially intriguing that Denifl could keep up with the best, contrary to most of his rides in PCM15.

For Puma, Arndt surely kept our jersey visible quite well in the favorite group. 15th excluding the breakaway riders?
On that topic, Vosekalns is just insanely consistent when it comes to KoM hunting. Evonik does deserve a break though this season. Smile

As for Demare's fight for green, Morton taking away the big points from Phinney and Sicard dropping a bit is good news, but a Phinney in yellow for the upcoming flat-ish and hilly stages could be bad news as he might score rather well in many of these finishes with the yellow jersey positioning buff.

Tomorrow could go many different ways. Ideally, the tough middle part of the stage will take some sprinters out of the equation.
It might also help a breakaway increase their gap again though if the peloton takes it easy there, so we need to find teams willing to help with the chase.

And last but not least, as mentioned earlier, we need to be up there on the line and hope Phinney doesn't score many points.

Absolutely, Vosekalns has been one of the most consistent KoM hunters in the PT for years. Probably the perfect storm of a nice skill set and always being in a team that doesnt have to work for a GC leader.
