Colombo Classic
Welcome to Sri Lanka for the third edition of the Colombo Classic! This year's edition is once again a PTHC race, and we have a star studded field here to attempt to deny Edvald Boasson Hagen a third consecutive victory, lead by Simone Ponzi, Sean De Bie and Alexey Lutsenko.
| HIL | MO | STA | RES | SP | ACC | Hagen | 85 | 70 | 81 | 74 | 73 | 79 | Ponzi | 84 | 73 | 77 | 72 | 76 | 80 | De Bie | 83 | 71 | 77 | 76 | 72 | 75 | Lutsenko | 83 | 73 | 76 | 73 | 72 | 81 | Claeys | 83 | 67 | 74 | 68 | 67 | 73 | Gastauer | 82 | 71 | 78 | 70 | 67 | 76 | Kinoshita | 82 | 72 | 80 | 77 | 68 | 77 | Koretzky | 81 | 71 | 77 | 70 | 71 | 79 | Izagirre | 81 | 74 | 73 | 72 | 60 | 64 | Dowsett | 80 | 65 | 74 | 69 | 66 | 71 | Borges | 80 | 70 | 75 | 73 | 71 | 81 | Boswell | 80 | 71 | 77 | 73 | 65 | 76 | Demare | 80 | 67 | 75 | 72 | 82 | 81 | Flügel | 80 | 71 | 77 | 65 | 67 | 72 | Jensen | 80 | 70 | 77 | 73 | 66 | 76 | Barrio | 79 | 70 | 69 | 63 | 65 | 67 | Trofimov | 79 | 74 | 74 | 72 | 70 | 70 | Froome | 79 | 67 | 72 | 68 | 51 | 70 | Klemme | 79 | 73 | 73 | 69 | 65 | 65 | Yates | 79 | 70 | 77 | 70 | 75 | 80 |
As well as the already mentioned Arnaud Demare, there are a number of other punchy-sprinters hoping to take advantage if the climbs aren't ridden particularly hard. Reimer, Ackermann, Felline and Silva are likely the names to watch.

Top 3 must be the goal here with only 2 stronger riders on paper.
Plus the best possible support team of 78 77 76 75 + Van der Poel.
Getting rid of Demare is one big goal obviously as otherwise all those decent sprinters could annoy the puncheurs. |

Not especially happy to be here. Puncheur's races have basically been race day dumps for us this year. The start list makes it so that's we have basically no chance of anything. I hope JJ will be aggressive, but I have no faith in that.

Profile doesn't look that hard except for the final climb. Maybe Claeys has a chance

Pretty sure our best shot is if Aregger can hold on but I'm not expecting anything.

On paper Koretzky should fight for a top 5. Let’s see what reality says.

Can Dowsett save his season? Can the staff throw enough cobblestones on the roads so that Summerhill can win? Let's find out

Given the stacked start list any points for Kraftwerk will be welcome.
Thanks for yet another preview jph!

Everything between TOP 5 (in my wildest dreams) and TOP 50 (in case of one of many Izagirre´s lazy days) seems possible. Hopefully last and by far hardest climb cause some pain to puncheurs with weaker MO
My bet is Ponzi.

We're obviously not here, but interesting race. Should be between the puncheurs and the punchy sprinters. Downhill skill could be useful as well.

A top10 would be nice. Let's see what's in store in here for us.

Called it. 4 riders in the first 26 makes up for Boswell missing out on the top 10

Yeah, pretty much what I thought. Nothing race for us. Asgreen in the break is cool I guess, but I would have liked somebody a bit stronger who could actually do something. A bunch of teams got multiple guys near the front at the end. I wonder what caused that.
Anyway, thanks for the report!

Not sure up to what place we get points in PTHC races, but 4th is obviously a great result. If my helpers that ended up in the Top 40 also grab some points, that might make up for my teams horrible results elsewhere recently.

Riders from 31st to 50th get 2 points each in PTHC races, if I've got the right sources .

Another rather passive hilly race, Claeys is not the best sprinter so 13th is alright in a PTHC field.
Thanks jph for the report, congrats AirFrance!

Bullshit. BIG bullshit. Immense disappointment.
#1 Please change the final K for next season or replace the race. No point reusing this.
#2 Nobody's fault but the AI's that Demare is amazingly positioned in EVERY. SINGLE. SHOT. right until the flamme rouge where suddenly the game forgot he's the top top favorite from this group.
Not that it mattered anyway with that twisty final, the first 5 under the kite were always going to be the first 5 over the line. A shame.
We should've just put the line on the top of the last hill and at least somewhat make it about stats.
Guess Project Demare is over after this. I hope he can at least salvage this season in the TdF as likely the best sprinter present.
So guys, if Herklotz gets even more annoying in the future, remember this race.

A hilly classic. One attack. Can I nominate this event for most boring race of the year?
At least the winner was a fitting rider. Congrats CT and thanks for the report jph!
