As expected really, the mountain stat did not play any role here.
Was quite amused yesterday when some were afraid of stage 3 and mountain stat. It`s really not THAT bad at all.
Obviously at the same time not a stage hard enough for huge gaps but some did open and it should be an interesting finale with the TTT. |

Steensen did a lot better than I expected coming in, although the race was selective enough to force him into the second group in the final selection, which will prevent him from a major GC result. Still, a top 15-20 seems very much possible now.
I'm more concerned about tomorrow though. I really wanna beat Zabel for that green jersey.

Waste of a race. We should be doing much better and we are nowhere to be seen.

Indeed quite glad my 66-67-69 MO train managed to control the peloton in the finale
Speaking of which, where have these three been hiding that performance all season? Absolutely perfect way for us to handle a HI-TT tour for Bazhkou's sake (even if there was way too many TTers finishing with us for our taste, and for Bazhkou to replicate his superb podium chasing exploits from 2018) and better late than never in terms of him actually being good I guess I'd say it's the absence of Dyrnes, but he never did anything leader-like either

I´m happy to see Izagirre can race actively at times. Podium and yellow jersey is a nice reward indeed. However, with so many equal or better time-trialist within firing range, I´m pretty sure he´ll finish outside of TOP5 eventually.
Looking at TT profile, maybe there are few sections where pure time-trialists could suffer and lose some time?

Dang, so close. We beat Zabel, but Boeckmans gets us. looks like I was right to be rooting for the breakaway in the end, but Appo just wasn't fast enough. Looks like he got blocked out when the Europcar and Delvaux trains crossed. Seeing how Europcar ended up 2-3, that might have been the difference. In any case, congrats to Campari.
Still a successful race for us. Really wanted that jersey, but Appo put up very good stage results here compared to his season thus far, and we got a win.
Hopefully Steensen can now sneak into the top 20 on GC, although there's plenty of competition around him.

So now we're not even sprinting anymore, or maybe we are but we're losing to Coppel.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Congrats with a superb sprint Tamijo! Happy with the two next podium places, althoug we miss the feeling of victory
Sterobo need to have a strong homeground-finish in the TT so he can climb closer to top 10.
Thank you Cunego for the well written and exciting reports! |

Stage 3 was almost a GC disaster as I couldn't see Sepulveda in the front group in the tv coverage, but he managed to get back somehow later on. The pressure of my previous comment got to Mraouni and he cracked big time . Kind of convinced now that not much will come for Sep GC wise as Zakarin has suddenly claimed the booby prize often awarded to teams that fail big on GC - the KoM jersey (and secured on stage 4 due to the passivity of his opponents)!
Stage 4, ding, ding round 3 for Feng in BotD, butterflies in the stomach quashed before they could waken up as things started to look like we could have a flat-beast holds off the bunch scenario, but was a blink and you'll miss it attempt this time around. Still pleased he's been so active.
Final ITT looks by no means pan flat, so lets see if Sepulveda's 2019 magic potion works again. (In this case I think the previous stages (parcours) have been too 'easy' and rather than now competing versus non-TT riders, lots of riders suited still in front on GC (and existing gap is fairly significant - not expecting to make too much progress).
EDIT: Oh, and nice to see ex-rider Saulo Lay popping up to claim 2nd on stage 4 for Europcar.

That time trial wil ruin any chance of Claeys getting a good result, Janse van Rensburg will end up losing time on the hilly stage and Vantomme will do his usual thing of not sprinting. If one these three can prove me wrong I'm happy.
One of them did prove me wrong, and in what a way!
Janse van Rensburg fifth OVERALL is beyond my wildest dreams. Even if Vantomme and Claeys did nothing this race, the South African makes up for it big time.
Thanks for the reports cunego and congrats Desigual!

Great race for us, also taking the points jersey home.
Congratz to Bjartne with another great stage and to Mresuperstar with the overall win.
Thanks again cunego

Steensen with a pretty poor performance, as I expected, but he did manage to sneak into the top 20 on GC, so I can't be too mad.
Overall a more successful race for us than I had hoped for, although it won't do much for us points wise. Still great to be active on home soil and come home with a stage victory.
Thank you cunego for some amazingly detailed reports! Congrats to all who had success.

a little disappointed in the last stage result, but it seems that quite a few others didnt do to well either so we capitalised on that. Tennant had a bad day missing out on the top 10 so we dont score as much depth points as I'd have liked but the teams classification win is good enough of compensation I guess.
Durbo did what he needed and managed 2nd overall, given the nature of the race I will settle with that given Coppel managed worse on what should have been one of the best routes for him...
Thanks for the reports as well!!!

Not the result we hoped for, but nevertheless a reasonable sum of points with a few more of our riders finishing in the top30.
Nice to see Europcar taking a stage victory here after all the bad luck they've been catching. Congratulations to Desigual and their man Fraile, well done!
Thanks again for the reports, cunego. Amazing job!

Wow, very proud of Bazhkou there, composed ride to outdo some more established guys and stick around in the top 10. Couple that with solid efforts from Debesay and Houle to stay top 20 and 30 and a big one from Shaun Nick Bester (did I just miss him yesterday? Had no idea he was so high ) to sneak into the top 25 and it's a solid race from us here GC-wise, even if I'd still rather Houle sprinted (and didn't lose time on Stage 2 taking him down on GC. Can't remember what the PpRD benchmark for a survival team is currently, but I guess we got around 100 here which is decent if not spectacular.
Thanks for the reports cunego, love your stuff And love your love of the_hoyle's NC work <3 And congrats Mre, Fraile is a cool rider and an awesome win!
