What on Earth were we doing?! We nearly ruined the race for Beltran and did nothing to help Ciolek
Congrats on the win Sutty

No sprinters on my team next year. None. What's even the point of having a top sprinter or good positioning when you can only hold top speed for .000001 meters. My amateur with far worse stats sneaks into 6 while Appo just dies every time from launching too early. Basically, PCM 18 just throws everything into a hat and randomly picks which guy is gonna launch at the right time.
Can't believe I still have to go through a whole season of this crap. It's so frustrating to actually plan well and end up with favorable matchups, only for the second best sprinter int he race to become the tenth because why not.
Edit: I have yet to see a terrain besides maybe the high mountains that PCM 18 actually does better for this game. More realistic? Sure, maybe. But who cares if it's realistic? The management game isn't built on realism, but fun competition. And this game throws that in the trash. /rant

Awful riding there on the only uphill finish of the race. Bring back the cobbles!

Can be happy with the result so far, race didn't go as I expected but Machado did get second, that is just very nice for now and I'd sign to finish like that

Juul-Jensen finishes in the grupetto in hills stages, and is now top 30 on a high mountain stage. I don't even know what to say.
Atrocious AI again. That mountain sprint was harder to watch than PCM 11, where it was a big problem. At least then there'd usually be some attrition and selection first.
I obviously can't complain today. The game seemed to think Warbasse was a favorite for some reason, and he sits in a great spot going into the hills. But what determined that result? Basically nothing. The game decided nothing was happening today. Trash race. Cyprus was at least fun and interesting last year, however crazy and flawed it was. Now it just sucks.
In any case, absolutely tremendous reporting Marco! Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into pumping out extremely detailed, quality reports, even when the race itself isn't giving you much to work with.

Yep the main problem for me with PCM18 race AI, the mountain sprints on these more boring stages.
For us obviously a decent stage result but hot happy with the lack of gaps. Will wait until tomorrow for judgement.

Disappointing. At least former Oz rider Penasa animated the race and former and future Oz rider Bennett made the podium but that's just lame from a neutral point of view. With only one mountain stage, that's also far from easy, you should expect some fireworks!

Martin took the stage that was great, but dangerously close GC.

The way the stage was panning out I was hoping Beltran would have a better kick to the line. But all in all I can't really complain since he didn't lose any time apart from bonuses and everyone in front of him is a better climber, which makes sense on that long of a climb.
Now I just hope he lits it up on the final stage
Congrats on the win Tamijo, Martin has been great for you

So you're telling me those are 6 seconds to Warbasse on the line?
While you can be at 2km to the finish when the winner raises his arms on a massive echelons stage and somehow still get s.t.?
Honest opinion: I rather have all stages use this time gap setting here then. #JusticeForCarlsberg

Losing it on the final day is a bit sour, but all in all great race for us with a stage win 2nd in GC and other minor points.

Yeah, I have absolutely no idea how that works. Warbasse loses 6 seconds there, but as you said, we often see no time gaps despite many lengths of road between groups. Really confusing. It only cost me one place, but it just looks so bizarre.
Overall, I can't complain with another good Warbasse performance here. His mtn/hill combo seems to be beneficial in the new game, so at least I'm benefiting somewhere.
JJ on the other hand is forced to just attack early all the time given his 55 mtn and 65 hill in PCM 18. To think he won this stage last year is actually kind of funny. Now he couldn't even last in the break. Wish he had gotten those mountain points, but what can you do?
Thanks you marcovdw for the fantastic reports!

I honestly don't understand how Scarponi went from attacking at 50km to go on stage 3 to losing 7 minutes, judging by him finishing 16th and losing under a minute on the final stage I don't think a top 20GC would have been out of the realms of possibility if he didn't blow up horrendously.
Ah well, congrats to Beltran on taking the GC win, seeing that makes me wish I'd have brought Slagter here.

That's up to the coding of the stage designer, and would be an additional effort to edit for all stages iirc. I'd like more time gaps too, but it's a cost - reward thing.

Happy with Bennett's initiative, third on GC with a few more points from stages is ok but we still need more in the grand scheme of things, especially given this was just a C1 race. Hopefully a sign of further improvements to come. Thanks to Marco for the great reports as usual, and congrats to redordead, Beltran doing the job and showing his multitalented skillset!

Oh yeah!! Beltran did exactly as planned, a perfect race from him!
I was kinda worried about wasting his precious race days on a C1 race. Needed a top 3 here at least to make it worth it, so to win feels great. Especially after the disaster in a very similar race like TOME earlier in the season.
Also since we haven't really performed without Beltran, it makes the points scored here even more important. It will be a lonely 3 months before we see him race again

I'm pretty surprised we haven't seen Beltran and Slagter in the same race yet, but I'm not really complaining
Thank you Marcovdw for all the reports, especially for the exciting last stage
