Year number two for this Canadian race. After a good start in PTHC last season, it falls down to a C1 status this year. We head to the beautiful British Colombia, a 2 lap circuit around Penticton then we go for a climb up to Apex Mountain Resort, and the descent into Hedley.
The climbing this year will be difficult, as our two lap circuit is challenging with a steep climb, and a more gradual climb both involved on each lap. The finish however lies on the other side of Green Mountain to Apex Mountain Resort, then a bit more over Mount Riordan in Nickel Plate Provincial Park before a fast decent down to Hedley on the Similkameen River.
There is no reason to do anything here except show off your climbing legs, so the ability to tackle the mountainous terrain will be vital. Some resistance to the long climb will help as will the ability to go downhill with the finish at the base.

The best climbers here are generally not great descenders, but I'll still favor them in this race. Intxausti should be the best overall climber, but he might need this to avoid a group finish. Penasa and Valls return for the second season to improve on their results, and possibly will know the route, and descent better than others. Scarponi becomes the danger man if he is able to stay with the favorites over the top as he is one of the few excellent descenders in this group.

Not sure why we didn't come here with that PCT race clash to take advantage of Great opportunity for the likes of Carapaz to pull a big result!

When I looked at this startlist that was my thought too... never even looked at how much of the PCT would be gone with Vuelta a Colombia taking the majority of climbers. Eastman would have had a really good chance here.

Wanted to send Beltran here, but ran out of race days quickly so I had to skip this one. Maybe a mistake as well looking at the startlist
Maybe Seibeb can surprise and score the odd point

Very good opportunity for a high finish here. Both Kiserlovski and Campero on the favourites list so I am hoping for a very decent result.
Good luck to everyone!

With the race clash I decided to give Scarponi a chance to lead us, didn't expect this weak a field here so maybe he'll take it and actually outscore our whole Vuelta a Colombia.

I suspected a weaker startlist and I was one of the few who did. Great opportunity here

Huh, Warbasse might actually have a top 10 chance in this field.

As for most one-day races, a Top 15 should be our goal here. Saggiorato has already done quite well this season, and will probably be our best bet. I'm still hoping that Signorini will finally do some good racing as well, though.

Hoping to see Kunshin creaping into top 10 in this one, but with "the team" in Colombia he is practically on his own and it will be very difficult.

I am not sure what to expect in this race, Chiarello will not have much support but I am curious to know if this season's training paid off or not.
The top10 is the minimum acceptable for this race.

Our win condition was to drop everyone on the last climb, didn't quite work out but 3rd and 66 points in a C1 classic is a win in my book.

That was a really nice report to read, seeing Scarponi getting involved in the attack, then despite getting dropped still managing to make good use of his strong descending skills to recover a top 5.
Unfortunately we are far enough off the bottom already that just one result like this doesn't help that much, even if it is a nice highlight of a tough season so far.
Congrats to Schelling and Bushwackers on the win, always nice to see you doing well.

Tenth isn't bad for Warbasse here. Could have been a lot worse for sure. It wasn't super selective in the pack, so hard to tell where he really sat skills wise. But if I make top 10 a goal, I have to be happy with 10th.
Thanks for the report!

The odd point it is then, loved the sneaky breakaway attempt though
Congrats to Bushwackers and thanks for the report

Look, not what I was looking for...Kiserlovski and Campero not attacking or sprinting apparently. Still good to have them both in the lead group but we should have finished much higher! Moving on...
Thanks for the report and congrats to the winner!
