[PT/PCT/CT] Calendar, Goals and Race Profiles 2019
roturn
The Race Profiles forum for the 2019 season is now available. This year, it is ordered by race category. Some very few profiles are still missing. Though those will have the same or very similar profiles to their 2018 version, so you can already get the full picture of the calendar. The remaining races will hopefully all be included within the next days. (Only exception is Slovenie, which will have similar profiles but a TTT instead of an ITT in 2019, Qatar will be less windy).

Thanks a lot to those managers, that worked hard in the background on various stuff. Have to mention Tamijo here in especially as it wouldn`t have been possible to move to PCM18 without tons of convertion work, which he spent his time with in the last month.
But also thanks to all others, who worked on stages or other things such as archives.

The 2019 calendar file (which also has the HC/PTHC bands listed) can be downloaded here: https://www.dropb....xlsx?dl=0

Explanation

For those that don`t have PCM18 some hints how to read the symbols.
Flat, Hill, Mountain should be obvious. Hill mostly means 0.0 H/M ratio on hilly races, mountain 1.0 H/M ratio. If the hill race is something in between in stage races mainly, it can vary between 0-0.3 if the climbs are longer.

In extreme cases (Hallstatt) I added both symbols as the H/M is 0.5. Similar for classics such as Lombardia (so you can see, long climbs usually mean mixed H/M) with the symbol always being the higher percentage! So hill symbol can never be above 50%.

In two cases (San Luis and Beijing) the climbs might look longer but I added that all stages are 100% hill rated!

Other than that the cobbled symbol in dark red means it`s harder than in orange/yellow.

And the TT symbol is important. A white clock is an ITT, a dark clock is a TTT.

---

It is also now possible for you to decide on your team goals then.

Team Goals form a vital part of each team's season. In the short term, how hard goals you pick will determine your final budget - but in the longer term, how well you achieve those goals in the season will have a significant effect on your budget for the following season.

Going for harder goals could reward you greatly if you achieve them, but will punish you if you fail them. Easier goals will be less punishing if you dont achieve them, but they are in turn less rewarding aswell.

For new CT teams, it obviously isnt easy to pick goals without knowing what your team will be - so now is the time to decide which races you want to focus on, and you can then target riders in the transfers season appropriately.

Each type of goal has a cost, and every team must select 5 goals. The total goal cost must be between 14 and 23. There are also certain constraints on what type of goal you can select.

Note for all: The stage wins goals means stage wins. Overall race victories - be it a stage race or one day race - do not count. Stages wins during PT races for PCT teams do not count either.

Race Flexibility

For one of your goals, you can select 2 races (of the same goal cost) rather than 1. For example: "Top 10, Tour de Suisse or Tour of Qatar". At the end of the transfer season, you must then choose which of these two races you want to keep in your goal.

Goal Changes in 2019

The only change in 2019 is the higher goal cost for the stage win goals in each division as it was far too small before.

Submitting your Goals

To submit your goals, please use the table format as seen in the spoiler and send it via PM s as seen further below.

Great work Roturn and all those supporting with inputs. I look forward to perusing the race profiles in detail over the coming days, and then the challenge of goal-setting Smile.

Thanks to everyone for the hard work. Unfortunately, this is seemingly always my worst part of the season. Frown

This is going to be even tougher than the previous season. At least in PCT a winner rider is easier to get as there are more than PT winning riders... I'm going to have to think this very carefully...

Judging by the race profile forum, am I right in thinking what the Calendar calls Hill Race Classic in October is the GP Lugano?

We all thought, but it was found a while ago that PCM18 returned to a ratio system.

Is this a recent patch? Everything I've experienced personally suggests MO/HIL is based purely, or almost entirely atleast on effort.

I'm no expert and wasn't the one who found it, but it was found to have returned in stage files and (I believe) to have some effect at least, maybe it's blended now. Would have to ask someone a bit more knowledgeable on if it's blended or is in fact all back to ratio.

My personal feeling is that it doesn't affect how fast riders go, but it affects how IA behaves on those riders.

Take for example a Lombardia. A M/H of 0.0 would see EBH, Ponzi as main favourites for the IA. A M/H of 1.0 would see Taaramae, Spilak, Madrazo and so as top favourites for the IA. A 0.5 ratio would see Spilak as top favourite, as a mix of pure puncheur and pure climbers with combo riders like Beltran in the favourites list.

When it comes to one itself playing the stage the ratio doesn't affect you, but for the IA can be important

And yes, i made some kind of test recently, not thinking about this, but i made the Mendrisio 2009 WC in the editor, and i was trying to find a good balance in the M/H ratio for the IA to consider more favourites some riders than others.

Testing with a Real DB With a ratio of 0.8 Roglic won it, in a small group of all 80+ climbers (and Alaphilippe), with riders such as Sagan and Matthews going into the early break.

With a ratio of 0.3 Alaphilippe won it with an attack, and while riders such as Sagan and Matthews didn't stand a chance in the final, they weren't treated as domestique/attacking riders. Obviously the tough course would made them drop eventually, but also you wouldn't see riders as Lopez and Carapaz in the first places

Ah yes, I could see that being the case then actually. More to do with pre race strategy and favourites, than ability on the actual course. However being a pre-race favourite is very important still especially in 18 with daily form, so good to know! Thanks for clarifying.

Feel free to send goals to those listed now.

You can still change the H/M and it has surely impact on the race itself.

Might not work 100% same as with PCM15 but you can still impact the outcome towards climbers or puncheurs, which is what we need for the ManGame.

Just for my understanding: Which races are mandatory for CT teams? And in which races may we participate, and under which circumstances?
As far as I've understood the FAQ, I can participate in C1, C2 and C2HC races and may received wild cards for HC races (unlikely). But I did not find any mention of mandatory races, how many race days the team has, and how they have to be distributed on the race categories. Is there an overview of all these criteria?
And am I guaranteed to participate in all C1, C2 and C2HC races I wish to participate in, or is there any order of preference in case too many teams wish to ride the same races?

CT teams have 150 race days.
70 of those are already pre-selected as you race the full C2HC calendar against CT teams only.

The remaining 80rd you can select from mainly C2 and C1 races and you can also ask for some HC event depending on free slots there as PCT teams have priority there.

In cases of oversubscribed races in C1 and C2, there might be some changes after selection but it usually is with less than 5 races on the whole calendar, so most teams are not impacted.
Also there is a priority list when selecting races later, so in case you make a goal in one race, give it a high priority and you are basically guaranteed.

Fabianski
Thanks a lot for those details.
Will the free HC slots (and wildcard teams) be communicated before we have to submit the final race schedule? As HC race days have to be counted in our 150 days limit, I wouldn't like to include "maybe-race-days".

roturn
Yes, they will be counted.

And no matter what, if you don`t get a spot in a prefered HC race, you will be able to select the rd elsewhere afterwards.
In the end you will participate in 150 rd for sure.

redordead
I was in CT last year and gotten in all the HC and C1 races I had entered. Not sure if others had any issues, but I'm guessing since the team count hasn't increased it probably won't be much of an issue.
