Yes, forums in general decline as the "forum generation" is no longer students or pupils and now having jobs and less time.

So much easier to get all the information now without a forum due to smartphones/apps etc. and also communication has changed to other areas such as social media I guess.

And that PCM is probably losing lots of regular customers over the last 5 years, which wasn`t that extreme in the first 10-15 years of CYM/PCM. Likely Steam playing a role as well as there no longer is the need to have patch installation and database stuff explained when steam makes most of it automatically. So potentially new PCM players might not even search for PCM sites.

Lots of reasons really for PCM and real cycling discussions to decline.

Yeah, the lack of new members is always going to lead to a large decline in activity, but we've had this discussion before.

Personally, I just hope we can keep a large chunk of our core user base around so the forum doesn't completely die.

I*ll definetely try to get some time on here, as it is as fun as the first time I came here, but the man game demands just too much time, as I work 50ish hours a weekl and play handball as wellRolling Eyes

You'll never get rid of Team Puma - SAP Pfft
My 2023 team roster is fully planned already.

But I do admit I slowly started to fall into the once-despised category of "oh this guy only posts in MG threads anymore" myself that, back in the day, used to spark some incomprehension during my yearly check which MG managers might have fallen short of the disbandment threshold...

On that broader topic though, is SN still alive? Frown

I still have SN on my Steam friends list and he was last online on steam 15hours ago so I take that as a sign he is still alive, don't think I've messaged him outside of the forum since just after we won The Amazing Race though.

Must admit I mainly just post in MG threads now as the last PCM I played much of was PCM15, the management side was the draw for me and even now it doesn't sound like they have caught up to the ManGame.

As long as the ManGame exists I'll keep coming back and I'm sure I'll keep finding ways to just fall short of promoting from CT every year, at this point Sauber Petronas Racing and my Sprinter Salleh are starting to become synonymous with the division.

I'm sure SN is alive. He's probably just really busy and doesn't have the time/interest to be on here anymore. It sucks and it would have been nice to have that relayed to the forum, but the truth is that he doesn't owe us an explanation. He's done so much for this site and all of us. I'm just grateful for the time he spent here.

Side note, I just saw that I'm now older than SN was when I joined the site. That freaked me out a bit. I always saw myself as a kid and all the older, more experience members as much older adults. I guess that's still true, but it's kind of weird still for me.

Whilst PCM continues to disappoint by being a mixed bag of half-ideas, broken ideas and a pretty screenshot engine a forum like this will see declines in user interactivity. (yes there's a seperate trend of specific forums dying out anyway, being replaced by Reddit, Social Media and Steam). Honestly, i just couldn't recommend anyone buy PCM, let alone that they buy PCM and then put in the time to find the community forums online.

The only real reason i still visit Daily is for the MG and for more general Cycling and Off Topic discussions, because to me it's still one of the best online communities.
Very few raging fanboys that plague commen sections of CN and the like. Very few overly argumentative old farts that populate the good blogs. And in general just a lot of really quite nice and engaged cycling fans i just have never seen anywhere else.

But with PCM being the, and i'm trying to be nice, let down it is every year we'll struggle, as will the PCM Franchise.
I mean, i cannot justify a £30 spend on it! Honestly, it's no where near that good. FM cost me £30 and FM is the absolute high bar in sports games, simulation games and management games (my three favourite genres).

I bought a new laptop in May, so i invested in PCM for the first time in a looong time. It looks pretty, but that's it. The gameplay is the same and half of the game is bugged or just broken.
So instead i'll happily play Dirt Rally 2, which also cost me £30, is arguably better looking and plays waaaaay better. Or NASCAR Heat 3, again about £30, looks great and plays very nicely. FM19 as mentioned, great game similar cost. Imperator Rome, cost a bit more but my word is there 100x more game in that game than PCM.
And now i just bought Fallout 4 for the first time, for £10! It looks good, plays well etc etc etc And i could go on and on through my Steam Library of games that play better than PCM for less money. And don't even get me started on the Switch as well...

Tl;Dr
PCM is average at best. Daily as a community is top class, and even without PCM i'll keep coming back and back and back as long as there is someone else here i can annoy with Womens Cycling talk Pfft

How dare you trash talk PCM? Smile Also, I doubt Imperator Rome has that much gameplay, it's a Paradox game, you'll have to buy 10 full-priced DLCs before it has some depth. Smile Personally, I still recommend Victoria II, just played a game as Australia. Don't forget to mod Fallout 4.

As for PCM, it is what it is. One of these games which get updated every year and even with FIFA or FM not much changes every year. But those games sell millions of copies per year, while PCM sells, what, 50k copies? So the team must be that much smaller. I find it unnecessary in any case, I wish companies would only put out a new version every few years with substantial changes, the community will update the rosters yearly anyway. But EA started it in the early 1990s and sadly, it's a very successful business model.

I generally only buy the pcm games on a olympic winter cycle starting with 2006 so I find that the changes from pcm to pcm are significant enough to warrent a buy for me. never really understood the "pcm never changes" mentality until I could play PCM15 to PCM17 thanks to a friend of mine sharing his steam libary with me. I was kinda dissapointed with how much changed over each indiviual year

the top field rider pool each 4 years also changes significantly which I underestimate how much I actually like it. virtually the only name showing up in each of the four games is Valverde

Tell me about Paradox games and timesink...i am slowly reaching 700hours with EU4 now Rolling Eyes Pfft

Anyway, hello boys (and girls?) again, i stopped by to check Cafe Pedro and some other stuff, nice to see familiar avatars and you guys behind it again, many of you still left i see. Smile

I somehow lost my passion for watching cycling in previous year, but i tuned back in again with this years Tour, which i found quite interesting cycling wise, so i enjoys watching the stages.

Going through some tough personal times for couple of months now...more and more work coming at me, trying to raise through the ranks in the company i work for. Also studying Economics and Accounting at local college next to work for a year now (done all the tests and exams!!). And to top all of that, my long lasting marriage crisis resulted in decision to split up (at least for now) so i am stying at my parents for two months now, trying to get my shit together, thoughts together and found a new meaning and way of life and my own place to live at. My big savior in tough times now is my lovely son, at least we are reasonable enough with my wife to not argue about raising him and we are splitting our time with him 50:50...

So that is how i roll now...not much sad feelings now, afte some tough weeks, i am quite back to my old self and quite look forward to new chapter of my life. Smile
I'll be back

@Ripley - Imperator has kept me happy so far, there's big difference in the base game between different factions (tribes in the north, Rome/Italian style republics, Greek democracies, Egypt being Egypt, African tribes, and all the way out to India being just nuts fun). Easy 30+ hours to try each of those is 180+ hours total (of which i've just about covered Italian style only), and i'm already excited for the Cicero update which looks to pretty much change every single system in the game for free to start all over Pfft

@Shonak - Goddamn Paradox timesinks indeed. Always been interested in them, this is the first one i've actually bought. Eventually i might go back to pick up EU4 as i've heard so many good things about it, or a CK2 or Stellaris...

It's sad to hear you've had such a rough patch in your life, Avin. I wish you to stay strong and keep fighting for your happiness and that the good days will overshadow the bad ones.

I hope you are enjoying Sagan's TdF. I know it helps me a little when my favorite teams/sportsmen do well even though it has nothing to do personally with me.

Thanks for the nice words Alex!! Smile

My happines as the person was the main reason why i decided to leave in the end, instead of struggle for me and others near me, so now i hope that it is actually a chance to find it for both me and my boy, who is the most important human for me. A also learned a lot about myself in last couple of months and started working on myself like never before, so that is actually quite refreshing.
I'll be back

Oh, wish you all the best Avin. It seems like despite the recent turmoil you are still kicking ass, especially since you combine working, studying and raising a son so well - that is by far really not a given.

Nice to see that, despite all the rought times, you're finding the positives and improving yourself! And nice to see you back here. Time to pass that cycling love to your son and show him the boss that is Peter Sagan Pfft

Welcome back Avin. Hopefully you get everything sorted and manage to get the right balance back to your life. Glad to see you have come back to cycling just in time to see Bernal win the Tour Wink

In terms of PCM as a game I haven't played it for years. That is mainly due to real life taking over. I guess by the time I'm able to play again my daughter (and any future little ringo182's) will have grown up and moved out. By that time I expect I'll be plugging my computer directly into my brain for a fully immersive experience. No doubt PCM will still have the same bugs and Valverde will still be riding.

When I first started playing PCM, there was this special aura around it. It was just so fascinating to finally be able to play as the cyclist I watched on TV, in the same races they did. I just wanted to try every single team and race and learn as much about the sport as possible. I don't know if that's because I was so young or because it was new to me, but I didn't even really think about the game quality itself. The fact that it existed was enough for me. Over the next few years that lasted and progressed as I got more involved on this forum and YouTube, seeing the community possibilities and talking with so many great new people.

I still pop on PCM 11 or PCM 15 every so often when I'm super bored, but other than that I've moved on. Even if I wanted to, my computer really can't handle games at all anymore. I'm here for the discussion and the people.
