Malopolski Wyscig

Cobbles, length and an unpronouncable name: Welcome to Poland for Malopolski Wyscig!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/profiles/pthc_krakow.jpg

New on the PTHC calendar, Malopolski is a very long cobbled race in and around Krakow. Its profile seems quite flat, but there are still some hills involved. Mainly the cobbled climb, which has to be climbed three times near the finish line. And the finish will be slightly uphill, too. Therefore, at least some ability to climb hills will likely be needed to cross the line in first.

Whenever he's involved, unless there are mountains, only one rider can be the favourite: MG legend Sam Bewley. And tomorrow will be no exception. Bewley has all the abilities to win this race, even on a bad day. Some outsmarting will have to be done by other teams to beat him.

In terms of stats, the only rider who could compete with Bewley is Danny Summerhill. However, he has bitten Bewley's dust time and time again on the cobbles. Florian Senechal is a fairly new competitor, but he will likely suffer from the same problem as Summerhill, especially with his weaker ability to get over the hills. Still, a win from these three names shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

Then we're slowly moving onto the outsiders. Vanspeybrouck is desperately looking to prove his worth for Carlsberg and give them some hope for the remainder of the season. His win at Kigali is very promising, but his prevoius performances in PTHC races shouldn't give his manager enough faith to expect a similar performance... Meanwhile, Trentin is looking for an upset with his dangerous substats, while Stallert, Altur and Zepuntke may try to attack when the race favors their type of rider, too.

Then there's a quite large group of riders who can battle the aforementioned names for at least a top position. Special focus may go to Baugnies, who has had an amazing season in the PCT so far and is looking to continue this trend in PTHC races, too. Lastly, Vanbilsen and Gerts are two riders who might be keen on this race due to their high stamina and hill stats, respectively.

Guess we haven't run out of cobbles after all. Something better than that 10th place in Kigali would be nice.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Back to back for Vanspeybrouck?

Nah. Of course it's only between Bewley and maybe Summerhill. Trentin indeed as a possible dark horse, but I really can't see Bewley failing here. We know the drill.

Zepuntke won't attack, he doesn't have the acceleration for that. Hope he can grab onto wheels of better riders and get a top 10.

This is gonna be a big yikes races for us. Goal race and GVK is not even mentioned in the preview.

Almost forgot about this one! Would be quite nice to get a good points haul here, fi I'm to have any possible chance to avoid relegation this year (which is extremely unlikely).

I suppose I'm riding the high from Kigali still. Still, I can't expect much, considering the PT field and the lack of cobbles compared to Kigali, but a top 5 would be great. Or at least in the front selection if it's a bigger group. I'd also appreciate Nolf not being a sack of donkey dung for once, but we can't get everything we want.

Looking forward to it in any case!

Not the best race on paper for Trentin, but if it's raced full gas on the hill, it could be perfect for him, considering his hill stat, especially as the sprint also seems to be uphill. Hoping he can surprise and deliver a podium, behind Bewley and Summerhill, who must be the obvious favourite and favourite for second place Pfft

And nice to see a new reporter in town!

Would love to see Spengler take a decent result here, but most likely it is too hilly. Thanks for the preview Vien, looking forward to it!

A refresher on last time the best in the world fought on this course at the biggest stage of all: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread...d_id=47062

And here comes my cobbled plans influencing my PTHC bands to bite me in the ass... will be hard pressed to get many points but it's not a bad profile for either of our leaders - and Jams has history being in the fight to win on this route Pfft

Love this race, loved reporting it as the WC route, and looking forward to Vien reporting, thanks a lot Grin

Oh it's that race? Great memories for Vanbilsen..

Why do we have all these boring cobble races? Waste of race days :-p

Beweley to win this, but rooting for Carlsberg ;-)

Hope Vanmarcke finds his legs from February races and get close to a Top5, but i'd be happy with a Top10 anyway.

Looking forward to your first report Vien! Grin

No surprise Bewley.

Shame Zepuntke just got dropped, would've liked a few more points but it's not the end of the world.

Thanks Vien for joining the reporting force. Green circles annoyed me at first as well Pfft

Bewley just as expected, eventhough it was a slight surprise to see him need the sprint to take it.

For Trentin, the report sums it up very well, as starting that sprint and seeing the positioning, I thought fourth place was very realistic, but he clearly was out of gas. Ninth is kind of underwhelming, but it kind of suits his season, as he has kind of lacked the final punch in the fights behind Bewley/GVA/Summerhill. He has East Midlands, ToNE and Battenkill left on the cobbles, and hopefully he can step up ever so slightly Smile

Thank you for the report, Vien!

Expected winner, kinda expected podium as well.

Burghardt going 4th is quite a surprise though. The old man still has something left in the tank, it seems. With Vanspeybrouck taking another day off after his recent victory, it's nice to see Burghardt up there as one of our former cobbles riders.

Thanks for the report! I would rather deactivate the circles, but it's a matter of taste, I guess Smile still enjoyable read, happy to see you stepping in as a reporter most recently.

Ahh, there's the Vanspeybrouck I know. in perfect position, and pisses his pants when it matters. Not much to say, since we're relegating at this point anyway. Always fun to see guys like Baugnies and Burghardt consistently at the front with PT guys despite their inferior stats, while VSB decides to have a stroll through the countryside.

Thanks for the report.

Really happy with Vanmarcke in 7th, making a strong point on staying on the team if we end up promoting. And Taillefour 22nd in this hilly route... amazing result for him!

Really great report for being your first one Vien!
