Triathlon Reborn - Cape Town Race!!- SIGNUPS OPEN
TheManxMissile
Would be awesome to get a few more sign-ups over the weekend. At 10 athletes i can definitely run a slimmed down World Tour, at 20 i can run the full calendar. Or if we're just short of those numbers i'll be able to generate some extra athletes to fill out the race fields.

You can absolutely make a second athlete! Anyone can make two or even three, because we won't run out of space!

Name: Lars Handers Valkinnen
Nationality: Finnish
DoB (Age): 26/12/96 (21)
Biography: In the ski village of Ruka, almost in the Lapland region in Finland, resides a young man who has a dream. His name is Lark Valkinnen, and ever since he was young he liked sport in general, every year attending the cross-country ski events happening in Ruka, which is currently the opening world cup site.

The region where he lives is home to an enormous natural park, filled with hundreds of Kilometers of trails that he used to ski in the winter, and ride his mountain bike in the summer/spring/fall which is something that always motivated him to keep riding, he had the chance to be in one of the most beautiful areas in the world.

Although he was never a proper road cycling racer, never even riding one, he loved the mountain bike ones, especially the marathons where he did surprisingly good for his age, regularly being the youngest in the roughest events.

But as he never had a chance to find a cycling team that could highlight his abilities, he decided to try out triathlon under guidance of a friend.. he hated his first training.. the water was freezing, he fell whilst jumping on the bike, and felt unbelievebly tired after the running segment. "I hated it, but next week I'll try to be better" he said when his friend asked him about his trainings, that happened on a weekly basis on the club's little training camp.

He never had a passion for running, and his skinny cycling body was everything a swimmer shouldn't have, and he barely knew how to even ride a time-trial bike.. but there was something he considered special in it. His bike rides were solo, and his saturday mornings spent in the club practising his techniques were also alone, he liked it tho.. it was something he wanted to do by himself, and he had the minimum facilities to develop well, and the club had the chance to take him to some local events, where he slowly finished some races in the back and the middle of the pack.

He has made his own training plan, consisting on a swimming day, a running day, 4 cycling days and a club training day. He did all the planning and organizing related to his training schedules, nutrition and rest, and a race once a month slowly started to show his evolution, which mostly consisted in learning how to pace, position and transition fast.

His little club practises started at his 16 years of age, until he was 19 he managed to put himself up there in some races. At the age of 20 he started competing nationally, and managed good and steady results, changing his training routine to balance out his swimming and running abilities. And now at the age of 21 he has taken the national title, somewhat surprisingly.

He his joining something new now, racing internationally, and he is very excited but at the same terrified at the challenges that may be put in front of him.

Swim: Medium-Low
Bike: High
Run: Medium - Low
Transition: High
Stamina: High
Recovery: High
Skill: The cold, hard, long races. He has a big big engine, and whilst his weakness in swimming and running can be bad, they are also where he can evolute the most, reveiling a possibly future world champions if well trained and prepared, and we know that he is capable of doing that on his own.
Weakness: He has two clear weakspots. The first being the heat, as he clearly is not adapted to it, can be harmful for him in some events. And second is the pressure, he always did this cause it has allowed him to be free and show his talent, and have fun. Putting him in international racing, sponsor talks, the pressure of having thousands watching his every move whilst racing can be daunting, we are yet to discover how he will react to such situations.

Spoiler
Sorry for not having signed earlier, didn't find the motivation to write-up. I may create another one also, but can't guarrantee Pfft

TheManxMissile
Lars Handers Valkinnen accepted with a couple of small changes. Swim + Run as Low, and i also dropped Transition to Low for balance (although i could drop Recovery instead, or put both to Medium if you prefer).

The Fourth Calendar Announcement

The final touches are being confirmed on both the World Tour and Tri Cup series', with final contracts being signed up in the coming days. Luckily some good work has been put in and we can bring you four more World Tour events!

Cape Town
Cape Town will host the opening round of the World Tour! A March trip to the Southern Hemisphere should bring good weather and spectacular scenery to kick off the season. As currently the only African event on either calendar this sure promises to be an event to remember!
Based on the cities waterfront around the V&A area we start with what should be a fairly sheltered swim in the harbour. The bike leg won't be as easy, tackling some of the foot-slopes of Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Running finish around the water front area will be more familiar.

Leeds + London
Another double, like the visit to Canda later in the year, Leeds and London will each host an Olympic distance event in June! Expect good weather in the early summer slot, but everyone should know the UK can throw some harsh changes around fast.
Leeds takes in a Lake swim just out of town proper before biking in towards the city center for a few laps and the run. A nice bit of a challenge for our athletes with a few hills around the Yorkshire city to contest with.
London will have an air of familiarity, with athletes tackling the 2012 Olympic course. Swimming in Hyde Park before biking around The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace and finishing with a fast flat run.

Kiel
The German stop on our calendar. Kiel will host Round 7 of the World Tour in late July. The famous naval hub will pull out all the stops for what could prove to be a key mid-season contest.
Swimming in the harbour will prevent too many waves, but the North Sea is cruel and could pose some challenges early on. Biking and Running will both be in town on flat courses, and the routes won't be too techncial. To make time and gaps here will be about pure strength.

Generated 10 athletes this weekend to bring up the numbers, and will probably add another 5-10 more to those anyway. Because i really want to try and run the full size game and calendar!

However i don't want high placings to be flooded by non-player athletes. So please, SIGN UP! Even if you don't think you can comment or post every event, provide an athlete that can help make racing more interesting for everyone! Then add a second one!
If you've already made an athlete, please think about adding a second one! You don't have to role-play them as much, it would just make the game work better and be more interesting overall!

Going to announce all the remaining events this week as well as one or two other aspects that such as Scoring. From the weekend i'll start writing up previews for the season. So the best time to join is now!

Name: Knut Weydahl
Nationality: Norway
DoB (Age): 01/02/1999 (19)
Biography: Knut Weydahl is born in Alta (Finnmark), where the snow is on the ground about 8 months among the year. Learned to float very soon when was just 2, and swimming styles right later. In adolescence was a random goer of the swimming-pool. By the way he prefer outdoor sports, and often get out with his mountain bike, where he is endowed with particular feeling, thanks to the slippery snowy road that he is used to ride. In winter (almost 6 months) he likes to train by cross-country skiing.
Knut has poor experience about competitions, he raced in cross-country ski events when was a child, and then some offroads bike race, like "Offroad Finnmark", a relay race of mountain bike that take place in his little city's woods. The only win in his score was a cross-country ski race in Kaiskuru (Alta) at age of 15.
He has few occasions to race triathlon events for the distance he has to travel to get to the place. Finally he found good sponsors and a team that can support him in the Triathlon Reborn championship.

Stats
Swim: Medium
Bike: Medium
Run: Low
Transition: High
Stamina: Low
Recovery: Medium
Skill: Swimm technique and bike handling, not suffering jet-lag, performing with very cold weather
Weakness: Not addicted to Pro life, often bad race strategy, suffer media attenction and big mass audience

Weydahl is all good Smile

Please keep signing up people! Add a second. Add a first! More definitely means better here!

Finishing The Tri Cup Calendar

Bahamas
Heading right to the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau will host Round 2 of the Tri Cup. March should bring good weather but always expect storms to creep up from nowhere, and be sure of a stiff sea breeze.
The race will start with the swim in the Caribbean sea, expect waves. A rather flat bike and run will follow, but to compensate what could be an easy race both these course are technical with many turns to take and accelerate out of. The Sprint distance should encourage athletes to attack.

San Diego
Home of the worlds most famous new anchor, San Diego brings Round 3 of the Tri Cup. A known triathlon city the course will be relatively familiar to serious triathletes and fans. Although whilst the event will be in April the weather should still be clear and warm to suit everyone attending.
A sea swim again, and in the Pacific you have to expect some currents and waves, not an easy start. The bike will stick around the front area and thus stay flat. Same for the run. And we know American cities, the courses will be wide and fast! Especially at a Sprint distance!

Auckland
Round 5 marks the half way point of the Tri Cup, and one of it's highlight events. Auckland are promising a very impressive affair and one to watch. May time, however, won't mean heat and could mean a lot of rain. Sea swim start in such conditions, there will be waves and it will be incredibly tough. Cycling and Running through town itself will provide good backdrop for the cameras, and whilst the courses will be fast and flowing if it rains these roads will be slick and technical skills will matter more than strength! Don't miss this Sprint distance event!

Rotterdam
Another known event for long term triathlon fans. Rotterdam might not have the galmour of Miami or Tokyo, but this event will still matter! July sunshine will bathe the athletes tackling the only Double Distance race on the Tri Cup. River swim can bring currents but it's not too strong here and there will be almost no waves. And a flat bike, but being long opens tactical chances for the smart athletes. A long run finish just to hurt even more.

Zurich
Switzerland will host Round 8 of the Tri Cup, and will be the last European round on the whole calendar. August sun almost guaranteed, and stunning backdrops of a beautiful city, beautiful mountains and a beautiful lake. The same lake that will be the swim location, which should mean a calm easy swim. The bike, however, won't be so calm, tackling some of the hills around the city, creating attacking opportnities. The run will also face it's own set of ramps and climbing. Not an easy race but one where aggressive racing can be hugely rewarded!

Since I'm a triathlete irl, I'll sign up!!

Jak Thompson

Spoiler
Name: Jak Thompson (This Athlete is basically based off myself)
Nationality: Australia
DoB (Age): 17/06/97
Biography: I was born in New Zealand but raised in Australia, started off swimming however lost a lot of my ability since those days, definitely struggle the most with my swim. I was always a good runner that lacked stamina. Over the last few years I have built that back up! However, I really started in cycling. Definitely my favourite leg of a triathlon! After cycling I fell in love with the sport of triathlon at the age of 16 and started racing however lack commitment.

Once I turned 20 I wanted to represent Australia at the Age Group world championships! I achieved this at the Gold Coast World Championships of 2018 and finished in 51st in the 20-24 division! My next goal is Switzerland for my second go at the 20-24 division! I really want to finish top 10 next time I race at the world championships! Perhaps after that I can try as an elite and really begin my career as a Triathlete!

Swim: Low
Bike: Medium
Run: High (Very strong finisher in the run! Watch out! I'm hunting you all down!)
Transition: Medium
Stamina: High
Recovery:Medium
Skill: Motivated as hell (I know what I have to do to compete with the bigs)!! Tactics (I have a good head during a group ride, run and know when to attack)! Commitment!
Weakness: Swimming in a group (Not my strongest leg at all, I'm working on it), Strength (Quite a skinny guy, not overly strong in the swim...surprisingly strong on the bike :lolSmile

Just added one but I'll do a second to fill the numbers! "Jak Thompson" will be my main athlete.

Fernando Mola

Spoiler
Name: Fernando Mola
Nationality: Spain
DoB (Age):03/08/1996
Biography: Fernando is the younger brother of Triathlon legend Mario Mola! He has never been able to match Mario but always worked just as hard! The young athlete has been sitting on the back wheel of Mario for years but it is finally time for him to attack into the wind and show everyone what he's got!

Some would say Fernando is the greatest swimmer since the legendary Slovakian, Richard Varga. Fernando has never come out of a swim lower then 1st since he began his Triathlon career, However, much like Richard Varga, he isn't the best at the other 2 disciplines. He almost solely relies on his swim to get him onto the top step, which is why he is yet to win a Triathlon.

Swim: High (Is Very High an option :lolSmile (Probably one of the best swimmers in the world)
Bike: Low
Run: Medium
Transition: Medium
Stamina: Medium
Recovery: Medium
Skill: Open Water Swim (An amazing swimmer, Any other athlete will be lucky to beat him)
Weakness: Cycling (Not good at all), Cornering on the bike (Not strong with his bike handling...)

Good luck to all other athletes in the water Wink

Can't wait to get started!!

Hmm, Mola Pfft Personally excited for the NZ double header and cool for Jannie to see a South African, and an almost-home race across the border in Nice for Candreva!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Jak Thompson is all good Smile Fernando Mola is all good Smile Brings us to 9 athletes, getting to Ten would be brilliant!
Final three World Tour events will be confirmed later today (including maybe my personal two favorite events in the entire game). Then i'll put up a full calendar overview with all races and dates, and a reminder list of distances + key features. Rankings systems on Friday/Saturday. And the first preview guide Sunday/Monday giving an idea of who will be challenging for the titles.

Topping Off The World Tour

Valencia
Can you get better than the Spanish coast in July? Maybe, but it's not easy. And the Valencia round of the World Tour won't be easy either! Round 6 comes right in the middle of the busy summer period, and we're certain to see high temperatures. Luckily the Sprint distance will help.
Swimming in the Med will also be a nice cool down, probably without too many waves to contend with either. The Bike stays pretty flat around the town, a few tight turns but far from the hardest course. Running around the beach front also helps make the heat more bearable.

Kitzbuhel
The small town of less than 10,000 in Austrias Tyrol region shouldn't be home to as many major sporting events as Kitzbuhel is. World Cup skiiing, the Austrian tennis Open, and now the Triathlon Reborn World Tour. August should bring nice sunny clear skies to the magnificent mountain backdrop and this unique course.
Swimming in the lake starts off nicely, the water will be calm and fast. It's on the bike things get tough! Athletes will tackle the Kitzbuheler Horn, a proper 1996m high mountain! And just for fun, the Run route will go a short way up it's lower slopes as well. Tough enough? It's also Olympic distance!

Stockholm
The beautiful Swedish capital will host Round 9 of the World Tour. Fans will again recognise this course, taking in some of the cities best sights. And hopefully the August calendar date will bathe us in glorious sunshine!
Swimming in the Riddarfjarden will pose some challenge, it can get rough and you can hit currents. The bike course has sections of fast flowing road, but throws in a few sharp ramps, a few technical sections and just for fun a few cobblestones as well! The run course deviates heavily from the bike, taking in smaller streets and some sharp ramps of it's own. An athletes ability to accelerate and use their power will be crucial to winning this potentially season defining race!

Complete Calendar 2019

i.imgur.com/Ytr40I7.png

Eight months. Twenty-five events. Seven continents. Sixteen countries. Three disciplines. One sport!

Here you can see the full Triathlon Reborn calendar. Starting at the beginning of March in Cape Town. March also gives a trip to Miami and then the Bahamas. Quick stop in Bermuda for the World Tour Double distance race, and onto San Diego. Two-week gap ahead of Yokohama and the important Olympic test in Tokyo, before swinging down to Auckland.
June and we come to Europe with the Leeds-London double. Nice will be nice next, and our first Special event. Valencia, Rotterdam, Kiel and Kitzbuhel all come without a gap and with their own unique challenges. A weeks break before Stockholm, and our second Special event, with Zurich finishing the packed European season.
Des Moines leads a North American triple in September, alongside Montreal and Quebec. The IronMan WC follows these, a very special event for those with true stamina.
Our two series finales come in late October. Wanaka first, followed by the Grand Final in Gold Coast, Australia.

World Tour
Olympic:- Cape Town, Leeds, London, Kitzbuhel, Stockholm, Montreal, Gold Coast
Sprint:- Yokohama, Valencia, Kiel, Quebec
Double:- Bermuda

Hilly:- Cape Town, Bermuda, Kitzbuhel, Stockholm, Quebec
Technical:- London, Kiel, Stockholm

Tri Cup
Olympic:- Miami, Tokyo, Des Moines, Wanaka
Sprint:- Bahamas, San Diego, Auckland, Nice, Zurich
Double:- Rotterdam

Hilly:- Nice, Zurich, Wanaka
Technical:- Bahamas, Zurich, Des Moines

Special Events
Both Nice and Stockholm are hosting Relay specials. Non-scoring to either the Tri Cup or World Tour, these two races carry only prestige and a hand extra financial bonus. A Relay is a 4-athlete Super-Sprint distance race. Each athlete tackles a 400m swim, 10km bike and a 2.5km run. They take it in turns, and quite simply the first team to finish wins.
Both of these will be optional. Athletes can form their own teams or let the organisers team them up if they have no preferences.

The IronMan WC comes late in the year and takes place in Hawaii. A 3.9km swim, 181km bike, then a 42.2km run. One for the stamina specialists! Also highly attended by the best of the amatuer scene, so a race to see potential new racers coming through. Non-scoring as well, by the prestige of winning the IronMan WC is almost unmatched, only beaten by an Olympic or World Tour victory.

Each season these Special events may rotate and change, providing new challenges and unique scenarios for athletes to take on and battle with.

How Do You Win?

A simple, yet very important question! For every race, just finish First. But to win the World Tour of Tri Cup athletes will need to be competitive more than once and score as many points as possible.

World Tour
Whilst points are scored in every race, only an athletes best 7 events plus the Grand Final count. So you can have a weak race or an injury or an illness and still finish strong, but a few bad races will really set you back! And the Grand Final carries extra points as well!

As you can see a First Place finish is worth a significant amount of points. The bigger gaps between the top places is designed to encourage aggressive racing and really make the athletes push hard. You can't just sit back, relax and claim a 4th/5th regularly, do this and you have no hope to win the title!
The Grand Final gives an extra 250pts for 1st, 100pts for 2nd and 50pts for 3rd, with 4th onwards getting the same as normal.

Tri Cup
Tri Cup points are scored in all 10 events. It differs from the World Tour in that the Tri Cup has no Grand Final, and all 10 races count! So a bad or missed race will hurt. But with the real focus of the top athletes being the World Tour they may sacrifice some Tri Cup events opening chances for second-tier atheltes or the up-and-coming young stars.

Again a First Place is worth a lot more than Second, aiming to make the athletes fight hard for the victory. Behind that there are more regular, and smaller, gaps. So athletes can ease back a little to secure a 4th/5th but will have to win once or twice to stand a chance at the crown.

Race Entry
All athletes are automatically entered for every World Tour and Tri Cup race. If an athlete wants to skip an event they have to tell the organisers at least one round before! For example: to skip Bermuda i would have to be told before the Bahamas.
Special Events are optional. To enter tell the organisers at least one round before! For example: to enter the Stockholm Relay i would have to be told before Kitzbuhel.
