You're right. The Portuguese armada is strong at Katusha, and being a non-English speaker he will definitely choose a team where he can, at least, feel at home and have no communication barriers, close to people he trusts. Movistar is another option, but at this stage, though I wouldn't mind the move, I don't think he will go there, only if it is his last resource. |

Costa just have to realize he is not the rider he used to be.
Obviously language similarities have a huge influence when choosing a team.

Quite a surprise I haven't seen this mentioned here so far.
Trek-Segafredo DS Steven De Jongh was found unconscious in a ravine close to the road in Catalunya, several hours after he supposedly was the victim of a hit and run.

Just as we were discussing if Costa was going or not, the other Portuguese R[uben Guerreiro is moving to Katusha. Got to say I'm not glad at all with this transfer, Katusha seems so off, so disconected. some talent but no-one seems to evolute, and Kittel's issues make everything worst in the inside, Zaka also didn't perform..
But I hope that like José Gonçalves at least he'll have a little bit of spotlight in some minor races like he has had so far in Trek.

If you regard him as overrated after the 2013 season, then yes, he failed to live up to expectations. The change to Lampre didn't help him either, but it's more his fault rather than the team entirely, as he focused too much on finish inside the top-10 at the Tour for too long, instead of riding on breakaways and win stages. He was a good classics rider and week long stage racer and aiming for those goals could have meant a follow up to his 2013 season. Although you can't blame him for his ambition, it was natural. Only that it lasted too long. Even Gonçalves, a breakaway rider, and a mere teammate like André Cardoso got closer to his so much desired top-10 in a GT. |

He was never close to a monument win, probably LBL with cobbled finish his best shot, 3 stages at TdF are not bad but nothing compared to top riders' palmares in GT, and the WC ok, but was mainly lost from others, with Nibali crash and the situation in Spanish team (frankly was really impossible for them to lose that WC, but also cooperate it would have been a miracle)
I agree he spent too much trying to break into top10 in TdF considering he can't hold 3 weeks at top level, and maybe is better on one week races.
I don't even like classic rider, all in all won just a GP de Montreal besides the WC.
I said he is overrated because he is often approached to top riders with 2/3/4 and more monuments and GT wins

Costa is overrated. But he was indeed world champion, no matter what the circumstances were. In his best day he is a very strong rider, like Romandie this year, and the wc's.. And after his WC he has made it onto a monument podium twice already which is still an acceptable set of results.. He just lost his breakaway skills and winning punch when he left Movistar.

I really don't understand why put the half way to Nivolet just until Ceresole Reale, with the 3 Km tunnel that probably will be decisive without media coverage, and the spectacular part starting right after Ceresole, bah!
