Roger De Vlaeminck
Champ_Armstrong
Hi PCM fellas

So one of cyclings greatest/most elegant classic rider is Roger De Vlaeminck. No wonder why we all miss a guy like him..

I need your help to a project. Question is.

What stats would you give him in PCM?

Just a little page of his palmares of approx 300 wins..

Grand Tours

Tour de France

1 individual stage (1970)

Giro d'Italia

Points classification (1972, 1974, 1975)
22 individual stages (1972-1979)

Vuelta a España

Liège–Bastogne–Liège (1970)

Milan–San Remo (1973, 1978, 1979)
Giro di Lombardia (1974, 1976)
Tour of Flanders (1977)
National Road Race Championships (1969, 1981)

Cyclo-cross

Thanks in advance!

this is a question ive asked myself in the past
here is my conclusion

start in pro cyclist
choose northern classics specialist
use an editor to look at the maximum stat limits
give him those stats with a little bit more mountain and about 50 recovery

Champ_Armstrong
Haha.. well the thing is he was not only a cobble specialist. He was also good in hilly terrains. 50 in rec - come on!

Any other suggestions? Udoi maybe?

have you seen the stat limits for the cobble specialist?
high everything except mountain

like i said i asked myself what kind of rider he was before and i did my research

ive watched a lot of his races and read a few books

he did 11 grand tours. 7 dnfs. no crashes he was just too tired to continue. always trying to ride for the overall

every time he was one of the strongest until he cracked and lost a lot of time

i know what im talking about
50 recovery

I do not totally agree. How about Boonen compared to Cancellara - both cobble specialists but totally different in other attributes!!? Also a guy like de Vlaeminck was not overpowered in TT's/Sprints and prologues - or was he?

If we should try to be factual I found this - what do you think?
FL: 80
MO: 75
HI: 78 - (wasnt he better thoug?)
DES: 76
COB: 85 (OVERKILL?)
TT: 72
PRL: 74
SPR: 72
ACC: 81
STA: 81
RES: 79
REC: 76
FIGHTER: 79

EDIT -Also I'm not thinking about the pro cyclist potentiels when deciding stats for previous legends!

Trying to stat someone's entire career is damn hard, i'd say impossible. For example: De Vlaeminck crushed Roubaix and MSR for a decade, but he also had years like 1983 and 1984 where results were average at best, or like 1967 and 1968 as an amateur rider showing talent but not getting big results. My suggestion would be to pick out his peak year (for me that's 75, although you could easily say it's any year from 73 to 79) and stat that.
Then it's about how playable you want him to be, is he fitting into a legends DB or into a modern peloton? Legends DB you can bump his top stats a little bit and look to use the 85 cap, but you'd have to drop some secondary skills down as he's not exactly Anquetil in a TT or Gaul on a mountain.

If it's not for a DB and just out of interest you'd be better off just asking where De Vlaeminck ranks against other legends like Merckx or Van Impe or Moser or Gimondi or Hinault from the same time period. Where the answer is, best cobbles rider of the period but a step behind others on hills, and obviously he's not Merckx.

Thanks for your great depth response, TheManxMissile.
I want to stat him in a mordern peloton with his absolute best peaks but obviously need help from other fans.

So if we say year 1975 what stats would you give him?

give him the stats i told you and he will be very different to boonen and cancellara

i think you didnt bother to check what the stat limits of a pro cyclist mode northern classics specialist are
go check

i am assuming you want his peak stats

overpowred in sprint and tt? what do you mean? one of the best in the world? yes

judge for yourself
this was 1975
https://www.wvcycl...ults/1975/

time trial wins ahead of merckx and moser
sprint wins ahead of van linden and gavazzi

First of all, the guy is total dick and no one should like him. All he can do is complain about current riders not being as good as him. He didn't consider Boonen was worthy of equaling his Roubaix record and was openly glad he couldn't win a fifth.

Also, look at the way he won his Ronde Van Vlaanderen. Total cheat.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Champ_Armstrong
The thing is I'm not nearby my pc at current situation. Unable to check pro cyclists stat limit. I do not disagree in your suggestion I simply question it. I was thinking some of the fans of cycling history on this site had some factual ideas they could convert into stats in-game. Like a common stat discussion. It is for my own purposes. My own use.
Would he beat a Sagan in a sprint? Would he be able to outride Alaphillipe and Valverde in LBL? No one knows but giving him stats reflected on 1975 is tough unless you talk about it.

De Vlaeminck is such a legend.

I'll check, thanks.

And so what? That is why he is a legend. This is the reason he is still mentioned 30 years after!

What about Fignon? Hinault? Armstrong? All lying, furious, outlaws riders but thats why we fuc**ng love them, isn't it?

ok so i loaded up a pcm cobbles specialist
theres randomness so the limits change by as much as +2/-2 every time but i got this

flat 80
mountain 70
hill 78
tt 77
prologue 79
sprint 79
acceleration 80
downhill 71
fighter 80
endurance 84

OK Thanks. And how about the cobble stat?

So I tried using these stats in the World DB 2018. I learned I need to define the level of the individual DB stat before making the actual stats. Furthermore I have to consider that stats are working differently in each version of the game. In PCM 2018 I noticed the RES stat means a lot in classics and power riding. Had no effect in 17.

In the World DB 2018 the stats are generally pretty high. Examples:
Alaphillipe has 83 in hill, 82 res, 81 acc, 80 sta (avg 82)
Sagan cob:82, hill:77, spr: 80, Acc: 83, sta 81, res: 80 (avg 82)

Highest flat stat: 82
Highest cobble stat: 83
Highest hill stat: 83
Highest mountain stat: 84 (crazy)
Highest sprint stat: 83
Highest acc stat: 83
Highest res stat: 82
Highest tt stat: 83

From that point of view I'll make De Vlaemincks prime stats.
I cannot give him 78 Hill when Ala got 83. That would kill me.
I cannot give him 73 res when Sagan has 80. That would kill me.
83-84 cobble seems to be realistic.

nothing to add

sprint and acc are high too imo, but like highest can be ok if other stats aren't so developed

trekbmc
Sorry to say something off topic, but are Sagan and Allphillipe contesting GT wins with those stats? They seem incredibly strong!

"What done is, is one." - Benji Naesen

Champ_Armstrong
Well the stats are directly taken from the World DB 2018. I assume statsmakers like Benji or whoever decided to put the overall bar pretty high. In fact the in-game experience with these high stats are working really fine. Sagan and Alaphillpe are not too dominant. You have to remember all the other rider attributes are fixed to these leads. Valverde 82 hill, Kwiato 81 hill, gva 82 cob, Terpstra 83 cob etc..

I do indeed think they're high but do not bother to change all of them when the simulation and in-game experience is realisitc enough. I though changed Froomes 84 mo and Dumoulin 84 tt (too high). Also I keep downgrading the crazy potentials. Simon Yates and Moscon needed a boost aswell. Minor details..

With stats like above, I've givin a todays De Vlaeminck (if he contested with 1975 shape) these stats

flat 80
mountain 75
hill 81
tt 74
prologue 77
Cobble: 84
sprint 71
acceleration 81
downhill 76
fighter 79
endurance 81
resistance 80
recovery 74

What do you think?
