Pro Hallstatt Classic

Bad Goisern – Predigtstuhl 190.8 km

Welcome to the Pro Hallstatt Classic, this is the very first edition of this race let’s hope it will become legendary and raced for many years to come.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/ProHallstatt/0.jpg

From Bad Goisern we start with a circuit route, moving south following Hallstatter See, then around the 1975 meter mountain Hoher Sarstein, through Pötschenhöhe mountain pass, the last 3.7 km at 5.8%, but going up quite a bit longer. This lap first 5 times over the mountain pass, before we have the summit finish climb up to Predigtstuhl, 6.6 km at 7.6%.

The local spectators will have six riders to cheer for, strongest in this setup should be T-Mobile’s pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tmo.png Georg Preidler, but they will surely also hope to see good results from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_iso.png Pernsteiner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Konrad pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Paulus pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Krizek and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_npn.png Grossschartner

With no prehistory can’t be completely sure how different rider types will perform on this route, but this preview will be centered on riders strong in the mountains as well as the hill’s. Secondary focus on acceleration and resistance, but also stamina and downhill may play a minor factor.

As most will already know promoting team Isostar Slovenija acquired pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_iso.png Spilak from Festina – Dexia, the highest ranked climber in 2017. He will also be my absolute top favorite to win this race. As top end climber and puncher with great stamina, he has only minor weaknesses, the only one worth a mention is slightly weaker acceleration than some of the other favorites.

Below the stand out favorite I see 10 riders, in my opinion almost equally able to contend in this race and likely winners if Spilak should have that day off.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Madrazo, the top end climber with perfect resistance and stamina, his weakness acceleration.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_p4e.png Pluchkin another top end climber with good resistance and stamina, a bit less punch than the rider above but a bit more acceleration

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_grg.png Martin is more all-round with a good climb and punch combo and great acceleration but a weaker pure climber than those above.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnm.png Morton also a good climb and punch combo major weakness low end acceleration.

Aker – MOT has two riders in this group, if they can work together a deadly combination, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_akm.png Beltran and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_akm.png Guldhammer. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_akm.png Beltran the attacker with fighter spirit and strong downhill pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_akm.png Guldhammer more likely to hang on to the favorite group.

Another two barrel shotgun in Moser – Sygic, also with two riders in this group of favorites, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Barguil and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mos.png Sagan, Barguil the natural climber, Sagan the puncher, both without any clear weakness just are they strong enough if they can’t use their numbers.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_nvo.png Kwiatkowski, a top end puncher, good support skills, weakness low end climber.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ubs.png Trofimov, another top end puncher, but also a weak climber compared to those above.

A few more riders I’d like to mention, all of them team leaders, except Aegon – Lavazza’s as they got two of them. I don’t see any of these win the race, honestly not podium either but you never know, stranger things have happened in MG.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_aeg.png Olivier and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_aeg.png Dekker both natural climbers, Olivier with a bit more punch, both stands out by their supreme resistance, could make them stronger than they will seem at first glance.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Roglič and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eav.png Keinath good all round riders. The latter with a slightly weak acceleration, but a high end stamina.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Henao Montoya a natural climber with top end resistance, but with a low punch.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tmo.png Preidler, a good Hill/Mountain combo, the one with the very best downhill, question is if that is very useful, but it will make it easier to catch up if he has lost a little going up.

30 favorites sorted by Mountain/Hill combo.

Spilak time, pure and simple. Good run out for the beginnings of his train, and Krato, Ricco, Polanc and Pernsteiner are fantastic support for this kind of race. Want Kwiatek to do really well here as well. Interested to see the likes of Henao (hope he does well!), Marquez and Ginnani here - methinks that the latter may not be a great pick and the former is blocking a better leader - but who knows, we've never seen this race before Pfft

Excited to see how this one will pan out. Considered bringing Bakelants, but we went all in for Martin in the end. Brought our full climbers squad as well, so he should at least have good support. Hoping we can get a top 5 for Martin after the bit disappointing Paris-Nice, with some additional guys top 50. Spilak should be close to unbeatable here.

Why are we even here?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Judging by the startlist (last numbers Pfft ), PCM AI obviously thinks punchers/puncher climber hybrids are the way to go for this one, so Henao's chances look slim. As it is, Top 20 would probably be the best I can hope from this race. This is the only PTHC race Henao will lead all season and one thing's for sure, he can't complain about the support, because every possible climber/puncher domestique we have is here. Maybe we can do some depth scoring.

Thanks for the preview Tamijo Smile

In theory this should be a brilliant race for us, as it suits both Beltran and Guldhammer very, very well. Must say it makes me excited! Especially Beltran, as his downhill/acceleration combination makes it look like a perfect course for him, arguably the best through the whole season. We've also got depth scoring potential in Vakoc, Hagen and Khederi, which I hope they're able to deliver.

For the win, there can't be any doubt Spilak is the big favourite. Behind him it's wide open though, and both Beltran and Guldhammer are podium contenders, I think, together with Martin, Barguil, Sagan and Kwiatkowski, and of course Madrazo and Pluchkin too if this proves to be one more for the climbers.

Looking forward to the race!

Spilak should take this, but will be really interesting to see what Marquez/Preidler can get out of it

Let's see if we can do anything here. Probably not.

I don't have a single rider who fits this terrain, so I wouldn't even care if all riders retired at the start. Thanks for the lovely preview though.

Olivier and Dekker here. Hope to see them active. One in the top10 would be nice, top15 a must.
The other one hopefully not giving up then and fighting for top20-25 as well.

Let me guess: This will be a really boring race with hardly any attacks, Evonik doesnt bother to join the BotD (and isnt seen on any pics) and in the end a group of 100-150 has a mass sprint. This is how it works right?

Not coming here with huge expectations, it would be amazing to see Roglic in the top 10, but I won't be gutted if it doesn't happen considering the field looks strong enough. Great preview Tamijo!

Really looking forward to this race, think it is a great addition to the calendar with 50/50 ratio. I hope my two leaders can somehow both get good results. As I don't have any other races with two leaders like that in a race, have to enjoy this opportunity. Grin

Spilak looks like a prime favourite to take the win here. A perfect chance for Isostar to make a superb result in their first PT season!

Would've been fun to be here, with Herklotz surely a Top 3 favorite and Arndt/Bongiorno being suited to it as well in the Top 15-20 region. Depending on how this goes and next year's calendar, we might reconsider the band choices slightly.

Didn't think we'd be too bad off here, but now I think a Top 20 would be a good result.

Can't wait for my PTHC races to start. If I'm not mistaken a lot of managers are now starting their 3rd... I guess I can always use that as an excuse for being in the relegation battle.

Hope PCM understands that it should make the vastly superior rider my leader. Otherwise sending Ginanni will turn out to be a mistake.
