News in September

New month, new thread.

Starting off with the actual news of Ben King’s contract extension with Dimension Data, unsurprisingly after his amazing efforts in La Vuelta.

Another BMC rider to jump ship - guess with the uncertainty of the BMC/CCC merger and in what direction they're heading caused many riders to look elsewhere. Kinda like what happened last year with the Cannondale team where there was mass exodus and later they had problems finding new title sponsor which caused even their signed riders to consider their options (e.g. Uran to Astana).

I know it is old news but Sosa and Porte for Trek. Looking forward to see that in action.
Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever.

Sosa imo is a year too early.
He should have stayed with Androni for yet another season similar as Bernal did after a promising first year with them.

Not sure if Trek is the right team anyway for those two.

Meanwhile Androni with the next Colombian replacement for their WT leavings. Daniel Munoz might not be a new Bernal/Sosa kind of rider but at age 21 also very interesting. More likely the kind of luxury support rider from a first look and more the Pantano, Torres, Serpa rider. But always interesting their way to find the next Colombian gem.

No matter what Androni surely knows where to find upcoming GT stars.

Whether it's too early or not, Bernals transfer last year proved to be a wise decision.

Bernal wasn`t too early though! He stayed another year with Androni after having several wins. So yes, his decision was definitely right.

Sosa moves to WT after just one big season as his `17 was far from the ´18 season.

Think he should have stayed with them in ´19 as well instead.

Champ_Armstrong
Yeah you're right. I guess he got hypnotised with the amount of money he saw on the Trek contract..

If Trek waited another season he probably would have signed for another team, Bernal had already the contract with Androni so it wasn't same decision, but Sosa is in expiring year. Btw Bernal '16 vs Sosa '17 aren't so different
It's a good move imo

It could be good move...But I am somehow sceptical that Trek is good at destroying columbians condition (Arredondo, Pantano both faded here).

Okey, more serious, I hope that Trek has the right people to utilize Sosa`s potential...Pfft

Pantano is a big disappointment, really, no news about his future?
Arredondo got his peak at Trek imo, winning blue jersey and a stage at Giro, he had several phisical problems after that season that didn't allow him to perform. I read that he got surgery to solve his problem, but after that I have no notice about him (it was an year ago...)
I think they are trying to build a good team around Porte to compete at TdF, but something is missing, unless some guys are ready to solid performance at GT level, like Eg and Sosa indeed, Conci looks good also but still unripe

The issue isn't in support, it's in Porte. He's a pretty good 1-week racer, his GT record is not good. Two Top10's in twelve starts, and he's DNF'd 3 of his last 5 rides (not counting the Vuelta currently in progress, where he sits 124th before the end of todays stage, looking like he's either going to DNF again or get his worst ever GT finish).
You could put him in Team Sky and he'd fail to win... oh right, that was a thing that actually happened Pfft

I'm sure he would have podiumed without crash in Mont du Chat downhill, and what about Mt Ventoux, he finished with less than a minute to the podium...these are just hypothesis ok, but I believe in Porte possibilities.
btw he is a magnet for bad luck

Yeah imo Trek is awful at developing talents, or actually improving them

At the age of 36 what he'd gain from PED usage?

I have not heard anything about Pantano..But he faded really significantly it would be good to know what had happened to him.

yeah you are right about Arredondo. Regarding of Richie - firstly he needs to stay on the bike more than till stage 9 Shock It will be probably his very last chance. Its pity that we will never know what he could have been capable of had he stayed on his bike Sad
