Off year I guess.. 2015 was similar, after an year with tons of success he just had a blank year, 1 victory only (against 13 in 2014, 6 of them in GT's). Leadout never seemed an issue, he could use that excuse in his first race but Katusha have had excellent leadout for at least these two years he just lacked something big.. I find likely that he doesn't have that risk required to be up there, doesnt trust his leadout much too

Kittel was sick through half of the 2015 season. But this year I cannot find any explanation for the lack of results, aside from the Tirreno-Adriatico wins. The leadout is almost the same as Kristoff's for the past two seasons and I can't really believe that is due to Haller's absence that Kittel is unable to have a decent leadout or a better positioning. Things at Katusha are actually below usual standards, just take a look at Zakarin's season for instance, or Spilak, who has failed to obtain good results in week long races like he used to in the past. I think it's just something that is not working in the team, quality is still there for most of them.

Yeah nothing at Katusha has clicked so far this season.. I was expecting Zakarin to have a great Tour and kickstart things but honestly I'm not seeing that happen..

Also, damn it hurts seeing Tolhoek and Vanendert working in the head of the peloton like this smh, havent seen Bora chasing a break once in a flat stage Frown

EDIT: https://www.cyclin...otistical/

Seems like, just like last year with Kristoff, there are already tensions in Katusha

At least Kristoff struggled the past two years as well so perhaps it's the forced retirement of Paolini that put his sprint train into shambles and now Kittle inherited the mess.

Kittel just can't get a flying fuck to go in the sprint preperation. He still has the fastest numbers of all sprinters in this tour according to km/h measures, but he just can't get his positioning to go.

The issue is neither speed nor even the form of himself, but instead it's that he just can't get it to go from the front. Give him a quickstep leadout and the dominates, I am pretty sure. Right now it's just that he doesn't fit with his teammates it seems. Maybe they just need time, and Kittel needs to be less soft in the sprint preperation. I guess.

That's also while a medium-class sprinter like Elia Viviani turned out to win big time this year. Positioning is more crucial than ever. In terms of pure speed my opinion is that we have to look at it this way:

Kittel > Groenewegen > Gaviria > Greipel > Demare > Sagan > Kristoff > Laporte > Colbrelli > Degenkolb > Dupont > Boudat > Pasqualon

When talking about the top sprinters of course. I leave out Cavendish here because he seems to be at far from his best.

Dan Martin a minute back with 11 k to go, Timo Roosen was also involved in the same crash so Groenenwegen is without a leadout

Greipel should be DQed

Groenewegen wins, Gavaria might be DSQ'd for headbutting Griepel

df_Trek
there are no action that deserve a DSQ looking from helicopter, surely not by Greipel

Avin Wargunnson
I agree, if someone would deserve it, it would be Gaviria, what a stupid headbutt in Bouhanni style... Rolling Eyes

Dylan clearly fastest sprinter this year, good job.
I'll be back

Groenewegen has a massive acceleration.

And the best top speed. I said it before the Tour, he seems to be the fastest sprinter this season.

Only thing keeping him from winning all flat stages is positioning. His team isn't as good as Bora or Quick Step and he's not a positioning god like Sagan

So not watching it here - who was dq'd exactly just Greipel or both him and Gaviria? :/

Edit - seems like both...

what a bad decision...they learned nothing after past year disaster

Having barely watched I see the trident of Movistar is being matched by the trio at Sky. Poels consistently sitting up and resting after the Giro and for week 2 and 3 deployment, Bernal fighting for every second. Clearly Sky are unsure on how Froome will last and aren't that confident in Thomas (unsurprisingly). My Velogames would be going well if it was still a thing...on that note viewership reportedly well down this year btw...

You're not doing that bad

Groenewegen looking really good Cool

Guys, have you ever ridden a bike. What Gaviria did is basically what Renshaw did and thats nothing bad. They don't headbutt, they try to push themselves away from the other rider. In a sprint, you can't just take your arm off and push. Gaviria(same with Renshaw back then) just tried not to crash.
