Holy fricking hell what an attack by Dan the Man!
I thought for sure we'd see a sprint up and somebody winning it in the final couple of hundred meters. When he went with 1.5 km to go I thought for sure it was another one of his anxious attack that would cost him, but he proved me wrong. That was crazy strength to hang on there ahead of the field!

Martin deserves this win after attacking too late here in 2015. Good to see he is back on track again. |

Damn, bad timing for Dumoulin. Why didn't he just switch bike with Geschke? I know he's shorter but he wouldn't have lost that much time.
Great win for Martin, a nice guy who deserves it. Also happy to see Mollema finishing 7th, good performance for him (even in front of Sagan).

Dumoulin gets a 20-second time penalty for staying behind the car for too long. Bad day for him.

I hope all french contenders flat at roubaix stage and then have to draft. Let's see what the jury decides. |

Those 20 seconds was very well deserved. He hung onto the rear of the car like was it a training session. And that for ATLEAST 30 seconds. So being punished 20 seconds is definately not too much...
Ten Dam with a horrible move, waiting, not noticing his captain storming by only for Ten Dam to not be able to follow...
Also, Søren Kragh was called back waaaay too late imo. I don't know what they expected there.
Romain Bardet time loss is difficult to call, he looked roasted despite not having to do much work to get back (in comparison to Fuglsang f.e.), but it was on a team mates bike I think... So maybe it wasn't bad shape, but just a different bike, and a panic-like ride back to the group, where he perhaps should have played it a little bit cooler.
Anyway, losing 28 seconds to Porte, Nibali and Quintana isn't that bad - and even less to Froome, Uran etc.
IMO the trend is, that Froome will win again. If he's already strong enough to lose this little after the Giro, and being on his way back to a late peak for the 2-3rd week, he will beat everyone. I'd like to believe that Dan Martin is infact a true top 3 candidate this time. Also, WTF Majka? Is he actually capable of a top GC result?

fuck you too
You don't penalize after bad luck. They didn't do that with Nibali at the world championships either (even if it was the most flagrant bit of drafting ever seen)
These guys already lost 30-90s. Plus if you do penalize, do it consistently. Fuglsang then deserved 20s too... |

It seems harsh but thems the rules. He knows the rules. His team car knew the rules. He knew the risk he was taking for drafting so obviously for so long and so must take his punishment.
It's not punishing bad luck. It punishing cheating after suffering bad luck. It was a racing incident . All cyclists suffer bad luck at some point in a 3 week race.

Absolutely right decision with that penalty for Tom, he was drafting like 30 seconds, i though "this would deserve penalty" right when i saw it.

nothing wrong in this, the problem is rather when too often there are no penalty in other cases...
