Interview with a neo-pro, a day with Flósi Thorson Flósi Thorson, the first World Tour rider from the Faroe Islands, has sat down with us to tell us just what it's like signing a big contract.
First off, welcome to Europe, this January weather must feel pretty warm to you?
Yeah, totally, I was even thinking of heading down to the beach the other day! Haha, nah, still cold, even for me.
So you've already met with the Katusha team, how did that go?
Awesome, lots of great guys, I'm really looking forward to riding with them. There's a little bit of a Russian clique but the other guys were great, Mads [Würtz] seemed pretty happy to meet a fellow Danish speaker and Alexander [Kristoff] is a cool guy. There was another new guy with me, some Italian, Ricco? There's something shady about that guy - he seriously needs to up his self-care about his looks as well! I suppose I won't see him too much though as he'll be riding with Ilnur [Zakarin] and Rein [Taaramäe].
So you'll be riding for Kristoff, do you hope to get a chance to ride a monument this year?
Yeah, I think I will, I mean in the first couple races I'll do some domestique duties, but I suppose I'll prove myself pretty fast and be able to offer a bit of a two-pronged attack, he'll be hanging on for the sprint so it's good to have somebody to mark the moves or lead him out.
Really? You think you'll be able to stick behind Gilbert or Terpstra at the end of the Tour of Flanders?
Well you never really know in these sorts of races, anything can happen on a day like that and I haven't had too much chance with really long distances yet like in those races, but the profile suits me, so why not?
Haha, well, you've certainly got the attitude to win. Hopefully we'll see you this April.

Guilherme Barbosa snapped up by Team Dimension Data
On Thursday, Team Dimension Data announced its contract with 19 year old Brazilian cycling, Guilherme 'Gui' Barbosa had been approved by the RTGUCI. He will join his teammates in South Africa for preseason training this coming week, after he signed a contract for one year.
General Manager of Dimension Data, Brian Smith, spoke of his and the team's hopes for Gui in 2018.
"First of all, Gui is going to be one helluva rider, and we believe he will help out our hilly squad this year. He's going to be developing with TDD significantly, as this will be his first pro contract, and first time racing outside of South America. We think we've got a good one here and I can't wait to see what Gui can show us."
Barbosa's agent, Booker Wilson, had more details on the reasoning for the contract with Team Dimension Data.
"While we received a number of offers for 2018 from some very reputable teams, it was a clear choice to sign with Dimension Data. Not only will Gui have the opportunity to learn from one of the best puncheurs around in Edvald Boasson Hagen, he will also be supported by a very good infrastructure at the team. They have a very good history of integrating foreigners into their team without any problems with resettlement - that was something that appealed to Gui in particular, as this will be his first experience living away from family in Brazil.
I wanted to make sure he'd be comfortable and able to focus on his cycling in his first year out of South America. He's a prodigious talent, but he needs the right situation to perform as well. We're confident that Dimension Data will be the ideal environment, for his first professional season."
Barbosa will join Team Dimension Data's hilly support squad, alongside Tom-Jelte Slagter and Jaco Venter, among others. He is expected to be a star of Brazilian cycling in the future, and this season will tell analysts a great deal about his potential.

Man, a professional pre-season training camp is brutal! Never trained so hard in my life before. But the trainers think I'll be a better climber when the racing starts. #nopainnogain |

Can't expect much from CCC in any race. With Paterski (HIL 74) the team is bringing the best man they have for this terrain. But all eyes will be on the fellow neopros, of course.

There we go, first race coming up!
I think I'd keep the report short for now as all our riders are still crap. I'd think Sagan is better in every stat than every stat of our custom riders
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Great win, @LukaszOwsian! My coaches decided I should race 45 RDs this season and spend another 15 days training. That means just 6 races this season: Catalunya, Fleche Wallone, California, Dauphine, Vuelta and Quebec. A Grand Tour! I hope I make it to the end. #waitingisthehardestpart

Still pretty early in our guys' careers to do something useful yet. Hopefully somewhere during the season someone can get in a breakaway, or at least finish consistenly in the bunch in a stage race
