Fucking Ronaldo  I guess that what other teams feel when they play against Madrid 
Anyway, a draw isn't that bad thinking of Spain situation a couple of days ago, and starting the game 1 down in just 3 minutes. Then we dominate the match, but if Ronaldo is on fire, there's not a lot you can do to stop him scoring several goals

4 matches today! Looking forward to see what Iceland can do they did not show any good form lately. Have predicted a draw but thats more with heart then brain but on the other hand my brain is still struggling since my concussion almost a year Ago 
Also Will be nice seeing Denmark or Team Eriksen 
France should take 3pts and the last game I might undervalue Nigeria but having Croatia as favourite. |

Would love to see the Aussie team put up a fight!
Wouldn't be surprised to see Iceland get something out of their game against Argentina.
Backing Denmark to take the win against Peru.
I've predicted Croatia to win it against the Super Eagles but I wouldn't complain if Nigeria get the win.

Football is the only sport I can get behind Aussie in at times - go Socceroos, great first half! Especially sweet as they're losing the rugby and not doing great at the cricket (what a night of sport  ).
We all know the big game is later today though, as Argentina become the first of many big scalps taken by Iceland

VAR.
France got a penalty after VAR review but my question what happens if someone does something like tackle so awful that its a red card before the referee checks the VAR decision. This time the play went on almost 1 minute or so, maybe even Australia could have counter attack and getting tackle in France penalty area and given a penalty. BUT then the referee checks the first situation. I guess they cant give penalty to both teams. But would a guy been given a red card?

They would go back to the original penalty. Anything that occurred afterwards would be irrelevant I believe, unless it included fighting or something along those lines.

Ah, dreamed of a tie there, but really can't be disappointed with a 1 goal loss against France. We'll need to surprise against Denmark if we want a chance though, not likely.

Normally if a Referee thinks a red card needs to be given play must be stopped immediately. Even with VAR if the Ref thinks he should give a Red he has to stop the game there and then. So in viking's example, the Ref will blow the whilstle straight away at the first incident.
Separate sitution: There's a foul in one penalty area, but the Ref doesn't give it and play goes on, with the counter attack leading to a penalty in the other area. VAR will pull play back to the first foul, cancelling out the second one.
If, however, that second incident would lead to a Red Card the player can still be sent off! Any player on the pitch can be sent off at any time during the match, even if play is stopped or being pulled back for an earlier incident.
With Yellow cards you can play advantage and go back to give the yellow at the next available opportunity, but with Red's it has to be instant. VAR doesn't change this at all.

I was really impressed by Australia. Clever set-up to stay organised and packed and slow down the French game. Really dissapointed that France couldn't change things until Giroud came off the bench, the Griezman-Mbappe-Dembele trio wasn't working and needs a focus point ahead of them in Giroud.
I think Australia could get a win against Peru or Denmark if they play like that again, and boy would that make the group exciting!
VAR... boy... that's not how it should be. I don't think it was a penalty, and the Ref didn't think it was a penalty. But the VAR Ref's changed that. VAR is for clear and obvious errors, and this was not clear and obvious.
Also i was really unimpressed by the Uraguayan referee anywat. He was very inconsistent and made five or six clear mistakes in normal play anyway.

@manx it was a situation like that I was trying to put up.
That it would have been a situation with a red card after the penalty situation maybe on the middle of the pitch but before he could stop the play and call VAR about the first situation. VAR takes a decision about penalty but he would still give a red card for a awful tackle 30 seconds after the penalty situation on the middle of the pitch before he checked up with VAR.
Its extrem situation that most likely not will happen.
Regarding the penalty France got in Swedish tv studio Jonas Eriksson works in this World Cup. He said it should be penalty and yellow card that was before they took the decision so he thinks it was right.
Eriksson was self a referee in WC 2014, Euro 2012 & 2016. EL Final 2016. |

Until play is stopped everything carries on as normal, so a red card foul in that time is still a red card. When that foul is made the Referee will stop play for the foul and give the red card, VAR can then come in and pull play back to the original penalty but the red card still counts.
It's very unlikely to happen.
It's like without VAR a referee can play a yellow card advantage, and then the same player commits a second yellow card foul during in the advantage. The result is two yellow cards, and therefore a red, but it could seem unfair as play was allowed to carry on. Although we're now getting really into very specific examples of confusing sistuations

Risdon traps Griezmann's left foot when he is about to lift his heel. Even if Risdon hits the ball at first, Griezmann takes another touch before he is caught. It's clearly a penalty.

The group is definitely more open now, but we won't know if they wouldve played as good, if France had a different approach. Still would say the winner between DK and Peru will decide the final spot to the knockout phase. I have a bad feeling about this

The touch is pretty evident I agree. The australian player misses the tackle, Griezmann passes him and inadvertently hits the sliding defender with his heel. Griezmann doesn't even lose balance, he just dives.
No penalty imo.
