Think this race deserves a proper thread considering its stellar startlist.
BMC won the team time trial today, Porte already with a good advantage over his main opponents. This year's course is not so demanding, but still tricky. Therefore, things to look forward to:
- Quintana + Landa dynamic. We've seen them in Pais Vasco, both looked strong together, the main question right now is whether they will try and attack the overall lead, considering their disadvantage on the final time-trial, or will they just stretch their legs.
- How good will Porte's Tour approach, and will Tejay keep his form from California.
- Kelderman is back three months after breaking his collarbone. Will he be ready to be in contention for the overall GC?
- Will the Tour de Suisse mark Spilak's turning point on a discrete season? And can he make it three wins in four years?
- How will other possible contenders like Kruijswijk, Fuglsang, Mollema and Ion Izagirre do? Out of these four perhaps Izagirre's more on a free role at the Tour, so he might want to show some good form in a fairly decent terrain for him.
- Youngsters Jack Haig and Enric Mas. One comes as the teams' GC option, the other to ride on a free role, presumably. But both very exciting prospects who have been racing really well this year. I'll add Mark Padun and Bjorg Lambrecht to the list, even if they have other roles to fulfill, but having recently attained their first pro win, they will certainly want to prove they deserve a spot among the World Tour teams. Extra adding Sam Oomen in a post-edit, since he might be a good backup in case Kelderman's not fit, that is if the Giro's not wheighing in his legs.
- The sprinter's showdown. Although on paper only two stages seem suitable for the likes of Démare or Gaviria, we could potentially see who's on pole-position for the Green Jersey/sprint dominator in the Tour. |

Spilak won TdS with less top riders in the startlist, maybe he can do good, but I doubt can win this
Interesting to see other sprinters (opposed to Sagan) how can perform in stages like those, with not total flat and some hills before the finish

Sagan ahead of Gaviria wins the first stage. Nando launched his sprint too early but his legs seem to be right on target for France.

I'd say so. He was semi sprinting in the wind from 400m out and went full from over 300m, very close considering.

I don't know but he's proving me right that he's an absolute steal at 4 in velogames. Hope it continues in the climbing stages

The finals kms of the stage were ridden in a hectic speed, plus Bora split half the peloton in the final climb. Guess it was good legs, good positioning, considering the chaotic sprint preparation, and good shape Padun's been evidencing since the Limburg Hammer Series. |

Kristoff again away from the spotlight. Not looking good despite the recent result in Gippingen. |

Landa's attack was crazy explosive, maybe due to the low gradient but still
