Also I have to mention Pello Zubeldia who is 7th on GC. The only time we saw him was the 10th stage to Gualdo Tadino where he was in breakaway.
There must always be two, he's the Zubeldia to Landa's Mayo

Dissapointed by Bennett's mechanical in TT, coupled with the really unlucky Zoncolan mechanical he's unlucky to be where he should be, hoping for a strong last week to usurp the guys between him and the top 5
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Basically I think Yates has taken advantage of indecision and bad tactics by his opponents and has done the unexpected at times. He's also entered the Giro with little pressure with all eyes on Froome and Tom.
At times the only rider that has been willing to help Tom D has been Pinot and if the others like Pozzovivo, Lopez and Carapaz had helped more I don't think the dominance of Yates would have been that much.
Also the demise of Aru from the GC and an up and down Froome have also helped Yates and discouraged a challenge to him.

Also, without bonus seconds it would've been a lot closer. Yates took something like 40 seconds by finishing top 3 in many stages. |

I may still be so oblivious but I´ve said it ever since Etna and I´ll keep saying it, Yates will crack, he entered the Giro so strong that it´s hard for me to believe he-ll keep onto it until the end, unlike essentially all others who entered with less form in the race

He took 46, but you can't calculate like that, since Dumoulin also took time bonuses. 14 seconds afaik.

More like having an insanely good tour all of a sudden when you are literally a convicted doper.
This certainly isn't a crazy jump from nowhere type of thing like we saw with Froome or anything, because Yates has always had talent, but his domination of this race is absolutely insane, especially Zoncolan. And hey, his asthma medicine may be perfectly legal right now. But to me this is clearly to good to be true.

Convicted in violating rules 2016 is a fact. (I'm with you on the asthma inhalers, not sure what to do about it, but seems to be to much as it is)
Having an insanely good tour, is questionable.
Distance between the top 10 some 7 minutes after 16 stages is about normal.
Pozzo some 3-4 minutes down is almost a rule.
Seems to me that Froome/Aru is weak/out of form.
Tom also just a bit weak, compared to last season, not able to stay with the best this year, dropping and comming back all the time, also compared to others than Simon.
Simon is 25 year old - just where you would se a rider putting some extra layer on hit GT levels.
Not saying he is clean....se previous post about guilt.

So much for an uphill start and explosive break forming action, hugely extended neutral zone is threatening to take out the entire climb!?
We get it, come to Lake Garda on holiday.
Edit - race might be on but no coverage in tunnel??? Either way best bit of the stage is passing us by...

Yeah, it's a beautiful city. I was there few years back. Not at the Giro, but still
Apparently I had a pleasure to be at some GT. Giro 2015 (4 stages: finish in Genua, Sestri Levante, La Spezia and start in La Spezia) and 100th edition of le Tour de France (125m from the finish of ITT in Chorges and last stage in Paris - I wanted to go for L'Alpe d'Huez, but there was a crappy weather so for my and my family safe decided not to).
Still looking forward for the 3rd week. Yates still doesn't have all the pressure on him. I think still people expect the most from Froome/Dumoulin duo. Also Giro has already won the battle for the best GT in 2018 |

Strong group 30 seconds ahead though. Let the tug of war commence.

UAE evaporate again and now Bora chasing.
Perhaps Viviani isn't there and Bennet is...will be hard going for a long time if so.

Bora all in, another breakaway potentially doomed. Viviani must be off the back with a fair few others.
