@AbhishekLFC: Thanks! Well I can tell you that the brains in the team management are already smoking going through all the possibilities we have. Just keep one thing in mind: We'll stay as regionally focussed as we are. Of course, that won't exclude the addition of 3-4 well-proven international leaders to our current squad.
@Jakstar22: Thanks a lot, I fear we'll need it.
@jandal7: We can't wait for it too. The season has been amazing indeed and we have to work quite hard to repeat our success and avoid relegation.
@knockout: Thank you very much. We are doing our best to try and present the story & spirit of our project to our fellow supporters as good as possible.
@Yellow Jersey: Big surprise is the perfect conclusion of our season, we are very happy how it all turned out for us. Thank you for your wishes.

With the expected difficulties in the later month of the season we finished 2017. We couldn't hold on to the absolutely stellar earlier months where we even took the lead mid-season, but then failed to sustain it at the very last. However, you can not deny that we had an outstanding 2017, that peaked in the promotion to PT 2018. More detailed analysis on our season is to come later in the offseason, now we are here to celebrate what the team worked hard for all year: 3187 points and the 2nd place in the PCT behind the 2-headed monstrum called Grieg, that deserved the title very well. But look which young, fresh and lime team finished right behind them. Who'd have dreamed of this before?!
Team Rankings
End of 2017
1 | | Grieg - Eftel | 3461 | 2 | | Isostar - Adriatic | 3187 | 3 | | Berg Cycles | 3122 | 4 | | Team UBS | 3056 | 5 | | Newton Foundation | 2773 | 6 | | Ferrero - Samruk | 2739 | 7 | | Orange Pro Cycling | 2717 | 8 | | Fablok - Bank BGZ | 2699 | 9 | | Indosat Ooredoo - ANZ | 2612 | 10 | | SPAR - Shimano - SCG | 2480 | 11 | | Eritel - Sonatrach | 2472 | 12 | | Meiji - JR East | 2393 | 13 | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 2375 | 14 | | Generali - EDF | 2323 | 15 | | Novatek-Panarmenian.net | 2049 | 16 | | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | 2040 | 17 | | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | 1983 | 18 | | Podium Ambition | 1921 | 19 | | Euskaltel | 1881 | 20 | | Minions | 1837 | 21 | | Netia - Vónin | 1705 | 22 | | Valio - DeLaval | 1600 | 23 | | MOL - OMV Petrom | 1564 | 24 | | Team Ticos Air Costa Rica | 1432 | 25 | | Compal-Merida | 1020 | 26 | | Haute Route - Mavic | 904 |
Going into the season with maximum one leader that was considered a notable leader in PCT and only one main scorer. Well the truth is: We only had one scorer in the Top 40: Marko Kump. But what a beast he was, especially on the stage races he raced! Hence he can proudly close the season out as 8th in the individual rankings. And think of what could've been with slightly more positioning luck on the PTHC approaches and in the hills. The offseason could turn out very interesting in terms of Kumps late development.
But it wasn't just our leader. Our in-between stats department just worked to perfection this year. Thinking of the difficult TT-stage race department led by Brändle (together with Bazhkou and Navardauskas), that scored us almost 650 points this season. Also thinking of our leadout/support, that beneath Navardauskas included Mansilla, Jans and Giaux where all three put up a total of 400 points together. The later two also have been part of the cobbled support for Polanc, that worked out great on the cobbles to be our 3rd highest scorer despite some crashes scoring 333.
Speaking of crashes we have to talk about our most unlucky rider of the season. Together with the Matejs the hills departments still put up 550, despite even more having been possible. Also the small stage race group has done a nice job, with veteran Brajkovic and his support (mainly Potocki) creating an input of 400.
Further support came from our youngsters and allround supporters. The outstanding guy was Jernej Svab, who really got his acceleration to work in breaks and scored highly respectable 68 points. Also the growing men which are Bostner, Laas and Logar had their high points and scored some minor points. Together with domesitques Jaramillo and Belgasem that made up for a grand total of over 100 points from the guys. Last but not least we had our two stagiares, that amazingly joined the team spirit by scoring minor points especially in the flat races they went to 22 points from Quicibal and Poljanec is highly notable for their race days.

All in all we had some great shared contribution throughout the team. The big story was that we scored big time results on all terrains. But, let's be clear about that, the difference between promotion and relegation was the efficiency in the hybrid terrains, which we discovered as our specialization. Looking at where we scored it stands out that hilly cobbles, sprints after hilly stages, mixed stage races and TT heavy races with small obstacles have made our season, while we struggled in clearly determined terrain with obvious favourites. That is our way, and that is the way we will continue throughout our future. Finding the gaps where the ZeroTurnaround style of riding can ensure the success for Isostar - Adriatic and it's riders. |

What a simply amazing squad and manager. You planned a hybrid squad to perfection, and it paid off big time. So much has and will be said but a massive chapeau again to you Croatia for a masterclass in assembling and planning a team!
Awesome.

@Ollfahrd: Thanks for your good wishes. Wonder when it's time for you to go for gold. I guess it's either waiting for Gavirias max or going full gas and trading Gaviria for a star right now. Plenty of opportunities for you, with Vanbilsen, van Asbroeck (and another Waeytens training?) you should have a rather solid base looking also at all your developments in the team.
I want mine too
@jandal7: Some lovely texts from you here, much love back to Xero!
@dev4ever: Thank you very much, we are very happy to join you where you have successfully established. We are still very thankful for you giving us the opportunity to bring Kump home to Slovenia. And damn has that move worked out well!

As vital part of our season the goal races take an even more increased focus for the team. Nails are bitten down even earlier, rants become more emotional and directeur sportivs overtake other cars and the riders even more aggressive than they already do. Beneath the obvious attraction for sponsors goals also take a special role as they partly determine the budget of next season.
Back in 2016 we did kind of well with this. Planning on having a (hybrid-) TT prone team we've set the focus on these type of races before the season. And by signing Andrew Tennant we went in line with that approach, seeking for glory in these races.
While we suffered under disappointment in the Windhoek ITT, where Tennant couldn't live up to the expectations and just missed out on the goal by finishing 6th, he did a very solid job at both the Herald Sun Tour and the Post Danmark Rundt. In both races he managed to secure the needed results.
Obviously our major goal that season was the Tour of Slovenia. Kirill Yatsevich was on another level that season, but Tennant did a fantastic job to come second in our biggest race of the season. on home soil we had some fantastic support that made us almost achieve the ultimate win goal.
On top, we could very much overachieve our rankings goal that was the Top 15 in the team standings. This also gave us the opportunity to finally promote with a decent budget of having achieved 3/5 goals with the others almost done in equal fashion.
2016
| Tour of Slovenia | C2 | Win | failed | | Windhoek ITT | C2 | Top 5 | failed | | Herald Sun Tour | C2 | Top 5 | achieved | | Post Danmark Rundt | C2 | Top 10 | achieved | | Team Standings | | Top 15 | achieved |
Now in 2017 we were in PCT, and with it the Tour de Slovenie got promoted. Hence there was only one choice for the goal race: Taking the trick in Slovenia again. This year we've again had a number of contenders for the C1 outcome, eventhough we neither sent lead TT rider Brändle nor Navardauskas due to the cruel clash with the similar Post Denmarck Rundt, which was also a goal race for us last season. With Brajkovic and Bazhkou we went on a great ride in Slovenia anyway. Brajkovic got into the Top10, and Bazhkou had the race of his season finishing 2nd (again) in our home race. The cherry on the cake obviously was Jernej Svabs stage win and Jan Polancs win in the U25 classification. And for our goal race we with that result came very close to achieving our ultimate goal as in 2016. We wonder what may happen in 2018...
As the state of the team was very unclear before the season opening, we picked 3 hybrid races as our HC goal races: 4 Jours du Dunquerque with Polac as fall-back option one the one side and Philly Cycling Classic and Ringerike GP with Bole as the fall-back option. However, we managed to add a great leader to add to all those plans: Marko Kump. The Slovenian superstar was meant to target especially the later two, but also supported our ambitions in Dunquerque.
There it was Jan Polanc missing out on the big result partly due to a crash. But both Marko Kump and Roy Jans stepped in on the hilly circuit. We achieved big time on the decicive hilly cobbled stage, and afterwards to bring Marko Kump (2nd) and Roy Jans (4th) into scoring positions. One of our most important outings all season!
At The Philadelphia Cycling Classic our goal was a Top 5 again, and it was in no doubt that Marko Kump should be one of if not the favourite on the win in that race. After a bitter disappointment on exact that race last season for Hugo Boss, he managed to turn it around big time this season. With the support of our class of roleurs with high tempo abilities we could perfectly position him for the famous final uphill sprint. There he took the big time win for the squad, pointing towards a great goal outcome here.
The final HC Top5 goal race was the Ringerike GP in Norway. Who would've guessed Boasson Hagen would ride in PCT while picking this? Without him this race may would've been perfect for Kump, thinking of the controlling power of our puncheurs after the decicive hills to bring it together creating a sprint. Well, Boasson Hagen ripped the race apart, leaving us dead and gone as a side actor here. We just had to work too much in behind which tired out Kump, who seems like he wasn't on his best of days either. Punchy sprinters like Kadri (2nd) and Modolo (10th) showed us that achieving our goal here was very much possible. You can't even blame us for not working for it, because we did, but at the end it wasn't meant to be our day.
Finally there was the one goal that is always the most controversial one: The rankings goal. And given the fact that we spent over a million of wages in unmaxed riders, you can argue that with a CT budget for maxed riders we weren't exactly the huge favourites in the PCT division. Hence all that mattered for us was avoiding relegation and thinking of the glorious times when the next generation of riders like Kamberaj, Per and Mohoric would peak to their limits. It all turned out to be so different. On the base of great depth, Marko Kump and leaders for every terrain and race we made sure that we could score in a variety of races; especially the hybrid terrains offered us a points flow. Hence we at the end of the day massively exceeded the goal expectations. What a season this was in the aftermath!
2017
| Tour de Slovenie | C1 | Win | 2nd | | 4 Jours du Dunquerque | HC | Top 5 | 2nd | | The Philadelphia Cycling Classic | HC | Top 5 | 1st | | Ringerike GP | HC | Top 5 | 13th | | Team Standings | | Top 20 | 2nd |
Thinking of 2018 the success of this season (taking away the unlucky miss in Ringerike) should give us the opportunity of starting with a decent budget into the PT adventure. That adventure will be all about avoiding relegation, going in as only the 3rd team that makes it from CT to PT in 2 season. There we'll follow the mythical path of Evonik - ELKO and Strava, two standout projects of the Man-Game imperium. We're absolutely honored to have the chance to comepte on the highest level, and thinking of our success in the 2018 goal races we might be able to think of standing a chance to survive in that sea full of sharks which is called Pro Tour. |

Isostar: Still the future of Slovenian Cycling?
Taken from EkipaSN
The Slovenian squad Isostar-Adriatic seeked an outstanding first 2 seasons in cycling. Achieving two consecutive promotions led the team to the chance of riding in the highest class just two years after it's foundations. Questions of course arised whether funding of the team, which has seen the same foundation of partners for its existence, can be secured in a manner that makes the project competitive on the highest level.
Given the rare rumours on potential new partners one would have to wonder whether the team could even afford the step towards the Pro Tour licence. Seeing Matej Mugerli retiring from cycling to take a role in the management, and Janez Brajkovic already claiming that he won't ride in WT again, the team will loose two of it''s most prominent faces on the road. As it stands today Isostar could well end up being the only major fund source for the Slovenian equipe.
These issues have peaked on another level with the questionmarks behind Adriatic, which has been the vital co-sponsor of the team so far. Rumour has it now thought that they are not happy with the lack of Croatian riders onboard, especially taking the latest statement of Pavel Potocki into account: "I am seeking for a higher role next year. With Jani on the move I hope to get more chances at Adriatic. But if it won't happen here then it may happen somewhere else." Chances are there that Adriatic will terminate their partnership if the last Croatian on the squad leaves the team.
Furthermore also the strategic partnership with PEI Waterland will come to an end. While the company has been one of their prominent partners especially aiding a lot in the fundraising management, the team could not fullfill their hopes in signing a leader from Belgium.
And even from the partner country, Estonia, there has been negative Feedback. While at least the Lime Lounge and ZeroTurnaround will keep their sponsorship. Not the Estonian Green Building Council however, which did not extend the partnership. It seems as if the departure of Aksel Nommela and Mikhel Räim without compensation has led them to part ways. Sadly, the new class of neo-pros at the ZeroTurnaround Talent Days could not bring another Estonian beneath Martin Laas into the team. There could be potential though if the team would pursue one of the Estonian cycling stars, Tanel Kangert and Rein Taaramae. Chances are high that the team at least has Kangert very high on their list, especially if he could ensure the teams future carrying potential sponsors with him.
Right now there is no end of the tunnel in sight. There are several claims from different sources that another Slovenian team is in the making. While the team of Miran Tepes would absolutely appreciate this, it further makes the race for funds more difficult. The only significant source we've heard of for potential new investors comes from the region of Ptuj. Perutnina Ptuj is very likely to have the squad of Miran Tepes as their flagship sports partner. Further regional partners may come up, but it is unlikely that those could cover the significant hole in the budget.
Thinking of these financial concerns, the future level of cycling for the squad is in doubt right now. And on top, there are concernes about the level of quality. While the core is a very young one, leaders may benefit from another learning year in the Pro Continental division. The Slovenian trio of Mohoric, Kump and Polanc already stated that they could very much think of staying at the project for another season even if it continues to be a PCT level. Different experts, anonymously, told sources that they'd see potentially a more stable development and team future for the squad of Miran Tepes if it declines the promotion option.
The general management around Miran Tepes will surely discuss all options with the main sponsor Isostar rather sooner than later. Right now anything is possible: From staying under the same name in the World Tour to a merging project with The Balkan Cycling Project anything is very much possible. Right now the hottest speculations point into the direction of further regionalization. Hence odds are high on another year in the Pro Continental Tour for the team, most possibly with a slightly changed name to Isostar Slovenija. |

At this state we can neither confirm nor deny any of the points made by the independent newspaper. Fact is, that we need to find a solution to close the gaps in the financial plan to lift the team up on another level. We'll try to find solutions as soon as possible, but right now the future is undecided.

EkipaSN are talking horsec**p. Your team is a potential gold mine for sponsors and I'm sure that you'll find new loyal sponsors.
If some of your sponsors do leave, they're simply ungrateful for the meteoric rise of your team.

@ivaneurope: we'll hope for that - at least we have Isostar with us for the future...and you know what that means #limetrain
@jandal7: An Estonian sponsor that would push me to the PT might demand something like a Taaramae, and signing Taaramae may be pretty far away you know

Press Conference coming soon...
The team manager of the former team Isostar - Adriatic, Miran Tepes, is heavily rumored to step back from his job.
Further also representatives of both sponsors Isostar and Adriatic seemingly have been furious about ongoing flaws in the world of cycling. Gorenje announced that they'd heavily consider pulling out of the team's plans, more sponsors seem to join them.
Local news papers of the Drava region, where the team is located, got this statement of Directeur Sportiv Bostjan Mervar: "At this moment it is very unlikely that we will continue. At least not with me. I am done."
Mervar is reported to go back to the roots with a continental or amateur team, while others are set to find new jobs. Marko Kump, Jan Polanc, Ramunas Navardauskas, Stanislau Bazhkou and Mathias Brändle are rumoured to have already taken up phone calls of potential new teams. At this moment it is likely that Isostar - Adriatic will be a done project from tomorrow on.
