Eschborn - Frankfurt Result
Podium
1) Alexander Kristoff
2) Michael Matthews
3) Olivier Naesen
For the fourth consecutive running, Alexander Kristoff won this race. Michael Matthews and Olivier Naesen, who've both been in good form this classics season, round out the podium.
Nine members backed the multiple times defending champion to win again and he delivered. Matthews was the next most popular, with eight picks. This was one of the rare races this season where the top favourites delivered perfectly! Naesen had only one backer, and it ensured a non-zero score for that member.
With picks of both Kristoff and Matthews, five members, Raziz, Aquarius, df_Trek, hillis and Freitas pick up the win in this race. Four others had only Kristoff, while three had only Matthews. Only Croatia picked Nasen, while trekbmc returns empty-handed from this race.
Stay tuned for results from the Year Long Predictions Set 2. The updated scoreboard will come then...

Year Long Questions - Set 2 Result
Answers
1. Which WT team will be most successful in the Classics? (Wins get highest priority, then 2nd places, and so on.) - Quickstep (5)
2. Which country will be most successful in the Classics? (Wins get highest priority, then 2nd places, and so on.) - Belgium: 2 wins, 1 runners-up, 7 third place
(2nd: Netherlands 2 wins, 1 runners-up, 1 third place)
(3rd: Denmark 2 wins, 1 runners-up, 0 third)
(4th: Slovakia 2 win, 0 runner-up)
3. Which race will see the biggest margin of victory? - Strade Bianche (39 seconds, Benoot over Bardet)
(2nd: Liege - Bastogne - Liege 37 seconds, Jungels over Woods)
4. Which race will have the lowest number of finishers? - Strade Bianche (53)
5. Which will be Gilbert's best race? - E3 Prijs Harelbeke (2nd)
Ten members picked Quickstep to be the most successful team while all but one member picked Belgium to be the top country. It was closer than you would expect for Belgium, with the result decided by their far superior number of third place finishes. Three members had Strade Bianche down as the race which would produce the biggets margin of victory while nine had it down as the hardest race, leading to the fewest finishers. No one predicted E3 to be Gilbert's best race.
Here's how the members scored (with numbers in brackets indicating questions answered correctly):
Raziz - 75 (1,2,4)
Marco - 100 (1,2,3,4)
Aquarius - 25 (4)
df_Trek - 75 (1,2,3)
Croatia - 50 (1,2)
trekbmc - 75 (1,2,3)
purepasd - 75 (1,2,4)
Selwink - 50 (2,4)
United Forever - 50 (1,2)
Hillis - 50 (1,2)
roturn - 50 (1,2)
Freitas - 50 (2,4)
Jandal - 75 (1,2,4)
Abhishek - 50 (2,4)
Marco got the first four questions correct, the only one to do so!
Here's how the table looks like after this result:
| Name | Races Entered | Bonuses | Total Points | | Aquarius97 | 20 | 80 | 405 | | df_Trek | 20 | 120 | 395 | | AbhishekLFC | 20 | 105 | 380 | | Selwink | 20 | 75 | 365 | | Raziz | 20 | 95 | 345 | | Marcovdw | 20 | 140 | 325 | | jandal7 | 18 | 110 | 325 | | roturn | 20 | 80 | 315 | | purepasd | 19 | 85 | 300 | | FreitasPCM | 20 | 75 | 275 | | hillis91 | 20 | 70 | 270 | | trekbmc | 10 | 95 | 225 | | Croatia14 | 18 | 85 | 120 | | United Forever | 4 | 60 | 90 | | Agent David | 3 | | 40 | | aldrofj | 3 | 10 | 30 | | emre99 | 2 | | 15 |
Aquarius still holds on to the lead, but the gap is suddenly down to just 10 points. Moving up to 2nd and taking up the charge at the top is df_trek who pushes Abhishek down to third. Raziz and Marco have both made up a lot ground and the former champions are slowly but surely coming back into the game. Roturn has lost considerable ground as Jandal too moves past him. Croatia finally gets into three figures. trekbmc has some ground to make while Freitas and Hillis are slowly being cut adrift too!
Next up, the first Grand Tour is upon us!

Eschborn-Frankfurt looked so promising until 5km to go...
Then Mühlberger got stopped by a break mistake of Gogl and hence the group in front became smaller while Quickstep decided to pace behind with Gaviria failing afterwards though.
At least picked both Buchmann and Mühlberger for the race alongside Matthews. Was a fun day of watching it hence. |
