GP Yekaterinburg
The GP Yekaterinburg in Russia is part of the CT calendar since 2013 (being held as a ProTour event once back in 2011 - won by Frank Schleck). The challenging parcours features a climb, that has to be ridden nine times - with a total race length of 213km, the classic ain't easy for the one dimensional puncheurs though.
In the past editions, the race hasn't proved to be overly selective, so if there's no succesful attacks at some point, positioning may become an important factor for the final way up the uphill finish.
The Startlist
The Favorites Favorites | HI | STA | SPR | AC | Outsiders | HI | STA | SPR | AC | vd Hugenhaben | 80 | 77 | 68 | 66 | Lejman | 77 | 72 | 59 | 68 | Chaves | 79 | 74 | 57 | 72 | Squire | 77 | 70 | 61 | 71 | Roux | 78 | 78 | 57 | 75 | Kratochvila | 77 | 70 | 53 | 64 | Boily | 78 | 72 | 68 | 74 | Rybakov | 76 | 73 | 64 | 72 | Pellaud | 77 | 74 | 65 | 70 | Nzeke | 76 | 72 | 66 | 68 | Diggle | 77 | 74 | 64 | 70 | R Galindo | 76 | 72 | 58 | 67 | Vichot | 76 | 77 | 66 | 80 | Gaimon | 75 | 75 | 67 | 74 | Lietaer | 76 | 74 | 66 | 71 | Hollenstein | 75 | 73 | 63 | 73 | Gilbert | 76 | 74 | 64 | 69 | Tvetcov | 75 | 72 | 72 | 73 | Wyss | 75 | 76 | 68 | 75 | Wallays | 75 | 72 | 64 | 69 | Chérel | 75 | 76 | 61 | 72 | Agostini | 74 | 78 | 60 | 60 |
A former race-winner at the start again: Lejman won the race back in 2014, when riding for FCB - Polska. He surely has the stamina to be a contender once again, but given his results this year (and his lack of acceleration), he has to be considered an outsider's chance only.
Top-favorites should be van der Hugenhaben, Roux and maybe even Vichot. They come with the best stamina amongst all puncheurs here and Vichot certainly has an impressive kick to be a main factor in a possible bunch sprint decision. Hugenhaben obviously lacks the kick, but he has proven, that he can be a winning rider nevertheless. Roux combines all needed main skills pretty well, so he's an obvious pick for the role as the favorite anyway.
Cahves, Boily, Pellaud and guys like the ever dangerous Wyss, Gilbert, Lietaer and Chérel as other promising riders here. Diggle probably riding for Roux only, but we've seen several domestiques doing pretty well here last season.

Damn, only 12 teams? Some rivals are going to score big here. So yeah, go vdH and Boily!
Nice preview tsmoha, I always enjoy the previous winners part. Makes me follow those riders with extra attention |

With just 12 teams in the starting line, the depth is so "bad" that Agostini actually made the preview
I'll take a top8 from Gilbert and maybe some depth points from Agostini and Fernando. Agostini should be a safe top15 bet, especially if the race is raced really fast and the long distance comes into play with his massive stamina and resistance

12 teams only? Damn this could be a huge race in the promotion fight in CT! As always I'm gonna cheer for my boy Wyss and Roux

One of Roux's more suited races all season, hope he can make the right move and/or be positioned well by PCM in the sprint Win is a must really here for individual standings after the Britain crash, and a big boost for us in the rankings before the flat double header exposes once more my terrible planning (the fact I attended it springs to mind never even mentioning my awful Roux calendar )
Thanks for a great preview tsmoha

Chaves doing so poorly this year he isn't even considered in the top-favorites group. Think I'm putting my hopes on Marentes for this one.

This will be an important race in our bid to hold on to the promotion spots. Need to take advantage of the small field and get some depth points as well. Over to you Wyss for the heroics.

Anything less than a W for RVH would suck for us, we need the points to fight for that top spot |

After spectating the ToA, it’s great to be back in the managerial seat for this one. Nice to see all the promotion contenders here, will be interested to see how Vichot holds up against the top puncheurs on an uphill finish. He seems to have the downhill/sprint finishes covered but vdH, Roux, Boily and Chaves (among others) are going to be a tough task.
Thanks for the preview tsmoha!

6th is a good result for Gilbert, but Azteca taking the win with Chaves and also getting some big depth points doesn't help us in our run for 6th place, especially as Agostini wasn't as bright as i would have hoped in this field (only 22th).
And while i should re-calculate Roux's points, this result almost guarantees Valls' individual crown
Also, we had a rider in almost every breakaway attempt, but not in the actual breakaway And we had 3 of the last 4 riders!

Have to say Roux got dummied a bit there, he should have trusted his sprint (though that has worked before in Britain and GPC ). Climb wasn't steep enough to lead out unfortunately. 3rd isn't bad but it's below what we should be getting - I'm guessing unless Valls crashes a lot and Roux wins Zuri that's the individual shot gone too
Congrats to "not even a top favourite" Chaves And thanks for a great report tsmoha!

Tvetcov in 10th is ok I guess, but I was hoping for a little more considering the lack of teams here. Still, the points we gained here will be useful to our promotion challenge which has kinda hit a brick wall in recent months.
Congrats to Azteca for the win

Whew... took way too long into the season to finally get that done. Chaves does a masterful job at the end of the race, and the team backed him up with lots of support and good results themselves.
Thanks for the report!

I'd have been quite happy with a top 5 before the race with the competition. I'm still quite happy with how Wyss hoodwinked two riders at the line to claim 5th
A win was overdue for Chaves! Congrats Kentaurus and thanks for the report tsmoha

Happy enough with 2nd for Boily, only losing out to one of my ex-riders (when you review Chaves points haul at season's end Kent, don't think you'll be too disappointed!).
Hoped for better backing up from R-G, but alternatively Visconti and Quintero give minor additional points that make up for R-G not being top 15. A solid enough outing, although was surprised so few teams in attendance!
Thanks for the report to TSM, and congrats to Kent on the victory.

Congrats to Kent! Well in with the star, Chaves.
9th a bit disappointing for Vichot but it looks like his positioning was very lacklustre in Russia. On to the next one
