Grands Prix Cyclistes
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c2hc/c2hc_gpc.png

The CT teams are heading for Canada, where the Grands Prix Cyclistes are held as a two-stages event for the third time now: the previously seperated held Grand Prix de Montreal and Grand Prix de Quebec (both on the MG schedule since 2011) merged to one event in 2015 and they have kept the new concept since then: Kinoshita (2016) and Kelderman (2015) as the past winners of the event, that has now been downgraded to C2HC status.

Two stages that feature a circuit through Quebec and Montreal. Each going above 200km. The first stage coming with an uphill finish, the second with a flat finish.

Amongst the top favorites, we have three riders with notable results in the previous two editions of the race: van der Hugenhaben (10th in 2016), Boily (7th in 2015) and Monfort (8th in 2015). This year, the trio will definitely aim for something bigger, with van der Hugenhaben and Boily as two of the top favorites. Boily, though lacking the stamina in comparison to the other top favorites, has a special race here: born and raised in Quebec, the local hero should certainly ride with a special support and boost of motivation.

Roux as maybe the most promising of all top favorites though: the veteran puncheur comes with a great stamina and a strong kick, even though he's lacking the sprint skills for a possible bunch sprint decision particularly in the second stage. Chaves, Bratashcuk, Pellaud, Monfort, Vichot and Taborre next on the list of main contenders. Chaves obviously with a key race and surely the goal to achieve the podium. Vichot (stamina and acceleration) with some great skills to shine here and also Taborre's stamina should come into play.

The same goes for an ever dangerous Wyss, Chaoufi and maybe some premium domestiques/co-leaders like Simon, Gaimon or Schoonbroodt. Wyss has proven to be a force on this level and with stamina being a factor here, he should fancy his chances for another Top-10 in the GC - at least.

Hope Vichot stays on his bike for this one, could be big for points if Hollenstein manages a decent GC finish as well. We will also need a bit of luck to finish above WCC and In-n-Out points-wise in this race as they each bring strong teams.

For the favourites, it would be interesting to see Chaves with a good performance to back up his on-paper strength, and Roux is always a tricky customer.

Thanks for the preview tsmoha, you seem to be keeping the MG ticking nearly on your own at this point.

Stage win and GC is a must here for Roux. Fully expecting Vichot to win it as probably best in the inevitable bad AI sprint on stage 2 Pfft His position on the startlist only increases my expectations for him. Hope Roux can win with a gap on one of the two days to get the GC. an MTK performance would be cool if it comes down to a new album away from oven his hillsprint stats.

Holy moly, this season is going so fast, amazing job...

A very important race of course, with so many points up for grabs for just two race days. Therefore I'm praying for a top 5, and maybe something in the team GC as we have three 75+HI riders. Best hopes we have for victory is Simon with his sprint stat in stage 2, but I doubt there won't be any time gaps in the first stage.

Bring it on! Also Thorsen as the number 11 on the startlist is pretty weird...

I predict Boily ahead of Squire and Hug. Mountain stat should/could have an influence surely.

Big pressure race for Boily as the home town hero, lets hope his form is not impacted by all his pre-race PR commitments. Solid support, and R-G as a 2nd option for a decent GC ride. Left the youngsters at home, so this is pretty much full strength WCC in terms of puncheur racing. Still a lot of worthy competiton on the start-list, pretty packed with talent. Nevertheless, anything lower than top 5 would be quite a disappointment.

Respect to TSM who seems to be carrying a very heavy reporting workload at the moment, appreciated as always.

Let's see. Our puncheur don't have shining acceleration, neither great stamina, neither great sprint abilities. I'll be happy with a top15 and please get on breakaways!!!!

"Easy" win for Vichot imo

And Croatia, this is the last race in the world where the MON stat would have any effect, can't see why you say the opposite

Bratashcuk should have a realistic shot at top 5, but those hilly are hard to predict. Haugenhaben or Roux looks to be the strongest considering the length.

Thanks for the preview.

Hoping Boily can win here for the Canadians the 2nd stage and the downhill finish will suit him well so as long as he is in the front group on stage 1 he should have a great chance

I wonder how bad we will be in this one Sad

Hmm, either breakaways or a San Marino-like Rujano to see something out of this one.. Or maybe Uwi can pull something of in the U25 if he's also gained supernatural forces

Not really sure what to expect from this one. Wyss does like stages with multiple short climbs plus his high stamina should suit this course. But since we got an excellent result in Benelux, I don't really want to get our hopes too high. The law of averages might catch up to us I fear. I went for a top 10 expectation in my HQ preview and I'll stick to that as a successful race.

Preseason goal was to win this race on our hometurf but I am very much doubtful that we can achieve such a feat. Hoping for two good results on both stages and and a top 10 GC !

Aquarius97
Okey, nice depth, but would be even nicer if actually one of them would try to do something. At least Cunego wasn't injured in his crash.

Great win for Roux, although i still believe that Vichot will take the win winning the last stage with his massive acceleration, a theory that just reinforces with Vichot taking bonus seconds today.

Nice report tsmoha!

That win was easy for Roux, love to see him with a smart and strong sprint BananaBanana However Vichot getting bonuses means no GC for us - if he was fourth then we could've got away with him second tomorrow but now I really think we won't win here - a real shame. The crash sucks as well with only two riders in the top group when it could easily have been so many more of us Sad

Glad for win #6 for my lovely Roux, even if now he won't catch Valls in points I hope he can tie up the victories count Grin

Marentes... Once again he performs wonders for this team. Upset to miss out on a win and podium, but a couple of top 10s another at 15, we should see a decent amount of points from this. Now to hold that team classification as well.

Can't say I wasn't expecting such a result here after seeing how the hills played out in Benelux. Wyss couldn't recover from being too far down before the finishing sprint. Only two riders in the front group is a let-down. No way Costa should be dropped from that group in this sort of stage!

Congrats Jandal Grin Thanks for the report tsmoha!

Allez Arthur! He's clearly loving the poutine diet and Quebecois women to get him psyched up for this race. Big result for our season, as we try to reel WCC back in. Love to see his ACC keeps him sprinting despite the low sprint stat. Hope he can pull off an attack on the final climb and descend to a victory in stage 2.

Congrats to jandal and thanks for the report tsmoha!
