Different tactics today, almost worked to perfection. A shame that Filip couldn't get that Podium/Bonus seconds. Kristasis with a strong move, happy to see that. And the duo of Koit and Jaani is just fantastic.

Good to have Ruta Del Sol underway. For Cartamundi, as a pure classics-type team, this race really kicks off the season for us. Now through the cobbled classics in Early May is going to be a key period.
Just looked at July calendar, and safe to say we will only be pursuing early TV time that month (Torlak in another break in Ruta America, he and De Cock have done well for us on that front).
Concerned about Puymbroek's TT ability though, going to undermine him in all the hilly GCs
Cartamundi is lobbying the organizers that next year the big spring classic stage races don't have to have a TT - who really wants to stand in the rain and watch a bunch of big muscular dudes riding in straight lines down boring suburban roads when you could be standing in the rain and mud watching the the dancers of the peleton bound up impossibly steep farm tracks that were first traversed in the time of the Belgae (and haven't been repaved since). |

I don't see Ruta America as a spring classic-type stage race given how easy the hilly stages are - more of an easy hilly race in the vein of Tropicale. But sure, for ToNE and East Midlands that argument could be made, less so the latter but maybe still. I love to hear any and all feedback on routes, calendar, etc. this year as things will surely change a bit.

#Cycling lobbies to just make sure you have a balanced team with decent time trialists, then you are more than happy to stand around whatever the weather
We like the balance of the calendar, although maintain that not knowing it all really really makes things more complex and tricky to manage!

Good to hear, and again my apologies. August will be balanced between all but MON, whilst September will have classics or classic-type races with hills, some cobbles and mixture classics (including a white road race!). Also a Cat.A sprint stage race. October is WC time, which will be somewhat hilly but not super hard.
Basically MON is done post-July. By the February break it will be revealed completely except potentially the WC routes.

Agreed, really ToNE was the race that I was angling at, but figured as an unbalanced team any general lobbying against TTs is good. Spent some time looking at the other team's puncheurs leaders and none of them are much good in the TT and only one on the cobbles. So ToNE should be a wide open race.
Anyway certainly not meant to be a criticism of the calendar, just some advocacy. Seems like you have made an effort to give the TT guys more to aim at, which is fair. Also appreciate the 30,000 foot view of the calendar.

Balanced team, what is that? Is that related to those power meter doohickies? |

On the topic of classics: I don't have much skill in designing the cobbled stuff but I'd love some races over the Flandrien hellingen without resorting to using De Ronde (I'm considering an older, harder route if I have to) or others (would like a Gent-Wevelgem one too). If anybody knows of any or wants to design one I'd love to have it. Already going to use Schaal Schels as I really like it and it's slightly more "obscure", like one or two other real races I'm using/adapting.

First win of the season
About the cobbles, you could try the Wallonie Prijs route from ICL or the East Midlands Classic from MG.

Congrats to Lopez and Ubisoft on taking round 1.
One through four on the stage for the puncheur leaders in the peloton (Lopez/Berger/Puymbroek/De Negri), only Þórvaldsson, who is not racing the Ruta was missing from that group. Should have a few battles on this kind of finish through the year. |

First win for Real Madrid?? First win for Real Madrid!
I was a little upset when the breakaway was caught, as Briatore could have climbed a lot in GC, but when i read that we are leading out the sprint... Fantastic sprint from Lafuente, who also moves up to 2nd in GC
