Only two races to update you on this month, but a lot has changed, with the completion of the final and most lucrative Grand Tour, the Tour de France. The PCT wildcards did their best to take points, but still 12,194 were scored. The recently concluded Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha as the other race.
So, the Tour. It's not often that three riders score over 1000 points in a race, but that's exactly what we have here. 1473 points for Spilak means that while he outscores Giro winner Alarcon, he falls short of Schleck's tally from the Vuelta, despite more points being on offer. Not quite the dominant display in terms of stage wins, with others also in the big points - 1312 for Phinney and 1021 for Taaramae, despite his crash hinderance. Gesink also with a strong haul of 806.
The rest of the Top 10 individuals scored between 321 and 477 points, with Yates in the Top 5, followed by Demare, Van Stayen, Lutsenko, Dekker and Guldhammer. Sagan being two points shy of the Dane.
Teams-wise eBuddy had the most points of the Top 4, outside of their leader, taking them up to 1110 points. Still behind Wiesenhof with 1162, and of course RBC on 1404 and Festina on 1637 - which is actually 5 points less than Hugo Boss' Giro total.
Moser as 5th best team on 689, with Pendleton's and Puma also in the 600s, then Aegon, Aker, Spotify, Ayubowan and Evonik all passing 500.
Phiney and RBC continued their fine July with victory in Praha, earning 493 points from those 4 days. It was very tight for the 2nd best team, with scores of 367, 361 and 358. With better depth than expected, it is Vesuvio who emerge as 2nd best scorers here, ahead of Porto and Festina. Both Vesuvio and Porto outscoring their Tour efforts. Tinkoff as 6th best Praha scorers were the only other team to manage this. Aegon were the 5th best team here.
| | Team | TdF | PKVP | July | | 1 | | Festina - Dexia | 1637 | 358 | 1995 | | 2 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 1404 | 493 | 1897 | | 3 | | Wiesenhof - Andritz | 1162 | 113 | 1275 | | 4 | | eBuddy | 1110 | 60 | 1170 | | 5 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 595 | 290 | 885 | | 6 | | Moser - Sygic | 689 | 186 | 875 | | 7 | | Team Puma - SAP | 636 | 203 | 839 | | 8 | | Pendleton's | 654 | 58 | 712 | | 9 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 315 | 367 | 682 | | 10 | | Spotify - Haglöfs | 572 | 108 | 680 | | 11 | | Aker - MOT | 580 | 66 | 646 | | 12 | | Ayubowan! | 567 | 63 | 630 | | 13 | | Evonik - ELKO | 555 | 40 | 595 | | 14 | | Porto - Prio | 152 | 361 | 513 | | 15 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 172 | 259 | 431 | | 16 | | Jayco - Cobra9 | 294 | 132 | 426 | | 17 | | Gazelle | 224 | 138 | 362 | | 18 | | Hugo Boss | 296 | 52 | 348 | | 19 | | Nemiroff - ABBYY | 247 | 77 | 324 | | 20 | | Strava | 194 | 105 | 299 | | 21 | | Iberia - Team Degenkolb | 139 | 109 | 248 | | 22 | | Project: Africa | 0 | 50 | 50 |
Before we get to the team standings, let's now look at who scored the most in the Grand Tours this year. And perhaps no surprise to see that the top teams were the GT winning teams, with Vesuvio coming out on top, followed by Festina and Hugo Boss.
Wiesenhof follow closely behind, ahead of eBuddy and RBC.
| | Team | Giro | Vuelta | Tour | GT | | 1 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 439 | 1938 | 315 | 2692 | | 2 | | Festina - Dexia | 351 | 496 | 1637 | 2484 | | 3 | | Hugo Boss | 1642 | 191 | 296 | 2129 | | 4 | | Wiesenhof - Andritz | 557 | 362 | 1162 | 2081 | | 5 | | eBuddy | 621 | 293 | 1110 | 2024 | | 6 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 345 | 254 | 1404 | 2003 | | 7 | | Pendleton's | 261 | 1062 | 654 | 1977 | | 8 | | Moser - Sygic | 940 | 322 | 689 | 1951 | | 9 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 493 | 695 | 595 | 1783 | | 10 | | Aker - MOT | 354 | 757 | 580 | 1691 | | 11 | | Jayco - Cobra9 | 878 | 347 | 294 | 1519 | | 12 | | Gazelle | 401 | 885 | 224 | 1510 | | 13 | | Spotify - Haglöfs | 424 | 436 | 572 | 1432 | | 14 | | Nemiroff - ABBYY | 196 | 928 | 247 | 1371 | | 15 | | Ayubowan! | 427 | 337 | 567 | 1331 | | 16 | | Team Puma - SAP | 367 | 283 | 636 | 1286 | | 17 | | Evonik - ELKO | 319 | 273 | 555 | 1147 | | 18 | | Porto - Prio | 362 | 592 | 152 | 1106 | | 19 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 179 | 496 | 172 | 847 | | 20 | | Strava | 128 | 146 | 194 | 468 | | 21 | | Iberia - Team Degenkolb | 226 | 55 | 139 | 420 |
So for the team standings then. And for the first monthly rankings update this year, Moser do not lead! Festina complete their comeback, in what has been a swing of more than 1500 points since the end of March. But now they must try to hold on to that lead. Moser have more PTHC races to come, an area where Festina have really excelled this season.
It's clearly a two horse race now, as always expected. Vesuvio continue to hold on to the best of the rest position, having recovered on Pendleton's and Aegon in Praha. Hugo Boss remain Top 6, but the Tour charge has brought two teams up the table and quite close to them. 13 places gained for RBC for 7th, ahead of Wiesenhof and their 5 place gain. This pushes Evonik to 9th, while Puma hold on to 10th.
Aker split a couple of positions to 11th, while Spotify hold onto 12th - both passing 4000 points. The largest position fallers are in fact Gazelle, now down 5 to 13th. Jayco also falling - 4 to 15th, in between the 5 place rise of eBuddy.
Porto-Prio needed Praha to rescure themselves from the relegation zone, and limit their fall to two places and 16th. It leaves them with an advantage of 276 points to safety. The final team only has a 17 point advantage though, with Ayubowan just maintaining 17th, as Strava slip into those relegation positions.
Tinkoff also remain close, despite falling three, but there's more of a gap to Nemiroff, and Iberia's Tour misfortunes look to have sealed their fate.
| | | Team | Total | RD | PpRD | | 1 | 3 | | Festina - Dexia | 6420 | 149 | 43.09 | | 2 | 1 | | Moser - Sygic | 6144 | 137 | 44.85 | | 3 | 2 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 5121 | 137 | 37.38 | | 4 | 4 | | Pendleton's | 5017 | 144 | 34.84 | | 5 | 6 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 5002 | 149 | 33.57 | | 6 | 5 | | Hugo Boss | 4630 | 150 | 30.87 | | 7 | 20 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 4604 | 142 | 32.42 | | 8 | 13 | | Wiesenhof - Andritz | 4572 | 144 | 31.75 | | 9 | 7 | | Evonik - ELKO | 4439 | 150 | 29.59 | | 10 | 10 | | Team Puma - SAP | 4198 | 136 | 30.87 | | 11 | 9 | | Aker - MOT | 4035 | 137 | 29.45 | | 12 | 12 | | Spotify - Haglöfs | 4005 | 149 | 26.88 | | 13 | 8 | | Gazelle | 3985 | 137 | 29.09 | | 14 | 19 | | eBuddy | 3879 | 136 | 28.52 | | 15 | 11 | | Jayco - Cobra9 | 3768 | 137 | 27.50 | | 16 | 14 | | Porto - Prio | 3698 | 137 | 26.99 | | 17 | 17 | | Ayubowan! | 3439 | 144 | 23.88 | | 18 | 15 | | Strava | 3422 | 150 | 22.81 | | 19 | 16 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 3362 | 142 | 23.68 | | 20 | 18 | | Nemiroff - ABBYY | 3092 | 137 | 22.57 | | 21 | 21 | | Iberia - Team Degenkolb | 2519 | 150 | 16.79 | | 22 | 22 | | Project: Africa | 368 | 149 | 2.47 |
Phinney moves into the individual rankings lead, moving up from 31st after over 1600 points scored this month. Schleck drops down to 2nd then, with Spilak up to 3rd and Taaramae now 4th. Bewley returned to action, having dropped to 6th post-Tour, and is now 5th. GT riders now dominate the standings, with Sagan also having to pick up points in the Tour to hold on to the Top 10.
Lutsenko climbs to 12th, with Gesink, Yates and Dekker into the Top 20. Demare and Van Stayen now separated by just 6 points, as they enter the Top 30.

Had hoped for more points from TDF, but I still believe that my team is pretty safe now. That is the most important point from all of this

Better then I would have imagined for us!
We refuse to drop lower, think we have been 11 or 12 in every update, I hope that continues all season!
We have a quite good month coming us well with Wellens in Deutschland and Ahlstrand to hopefully get top 5 in Moscow(well we have a win goal...) after that some cobblestones for Stallaert.
Thanks for the update SN! |

Thanks for this update.
5th is looking nice. I have a top5 goal in the end and if all works out, I can actually get 5/5 goals this year.
The GT table is interesting for my team as I never had a top GC rider and was between 10th and 15th only. Still managing to score balanced throughout all of them which mainly is due to the sprint wins of course. If only I had a top GC rider as well, I could probably attack the top3 in the rankings.
2 in the top20, another two in the top50 and then two just outside is a nice balance.
Keizer surely should climb a bit into top50 when having a good result later. Boom hopefully as well able to climb a bit with the TONE, where I have a top3 goal, which is the only other piece between 3/5 or 5/5 goals. In theory realistic, in PCM you never know.
Festina/Moser remains close. Looking forward for the last 3rd of the season. |

Closer to the top 10 than the relegation zone. I like that
I should be safe, I think, as I still have a huge race in Portugal left and two big-ish races in ToNE and Tasmania.
Also, very interesting to see the GTs rankings.

Pleasantly surprised to be up so far in the rankings, there's potential to slip down further but rankings order is points to raceday order so things seem to be straightening themselves out. Thanks for the update.

Dropping was kind of expected, as the Tour was never going to be our stronghold this season, but still happy for what Guldhammer got from it. PKVP was always going to be a difficult race for us in terms of points.
Now being past July, on paper we have every reason to look onwards and upwards, as all races left, at least from the top of my head, should suit us well, maybe except for Tasmania and Lombardia. Hoping we can use the upcoming month to climb inside the top 10 again, eventhough there's a gap to Puma. If we can manage that and end in the top 10, it would make for a decent season
Very interesting at the top, as that's a healthy lead for Festina, and eventhough SotD is talking down his chances, they've still got several good races left, which could potentially cancel out Bewley's comeback to racing and his big points.
At the bottom, the five last active teams must be kind of worried to see a gap emerge from Porto and Ayubowan. Definitely difficult to predict, but I do believe that the bottom five active teams now must be considered "favourites" for the unfortunate relegation places.
And big thank you for the update, SN! |

Really happy with this month. What we lost through crashes and passive riding was made up by Demare and Sütterlin.
I do believe we can still finish as high as 6th with consistent scoring in the remaining races, but the focus has to be to achieve our Top 10 goal first. Especially our HC outings need to be successful.
Thank you for compiling this!
Well fuck.

I wasn't really looking forward to this update, but honestly it has turned out better than expected. It feels good to be above the red line.
However Ayubowan, Tinkoff and Strava are teams with enough in them to overtake us. I'm not sure how many good races they have. I still have a safe bet in the TTT event and I'm hoping to leave Volta a Portugal with something. Other than those it's going to be hard to find big points.
Thanks for another thorough update, SN. Especially the all-GT table. I didn't have this perception, but being 4th to last in that rank is mesmerizing.
I feel really bad for Jayco, hope they can find their way back up to the top10.

I thought Festina might put themselves back in front this month - should be an interesting end to the season!
Feel very bad for Jayco, hope they can steer clear of the relegation dogfight. And have to join Croatia in supporting Strava now the GTs are over, come on!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Pity I can´t compete in the battle for staying in PT any more. Hopefully, next season I´ll have better luck. Now I´m curious who´ll accompany my team down to PCT

Great Update for the Team moving us into the top half and giving us a clear gap to the relegation places making the rest of the season a lot more enjoyable
For the rest of the season top 10 is the minimum and 6th has to be our aim though we have no Phinney races left we do have one of Houle Howard and Summerhill in each race so we should score some point throughout
Finally amazing to see Phinney lead the individual and he probably could be further ahead had I swapped Paris Nice for The Dauphine in his schedule he's still had a great season and TDF was the icing on the cake with just Tasmania to go it may be possible to hold off Bewley and Spilak but will more then likely take a win there to do so |

Hadnt commented on this update yet. I was going to write a longer post trying to figure out who we could still catch from the teams above us and who might still be dangerous to overtake us with the idea that the top 5 goal is looking to be too far away. Guess that analysis is already outdated now as we seem to be back in the fight for the top 5 again

This is a bigger gap on Festina than I have expected, thanks for the update. We really need Vakoc to star in his PTHC RDs to keep us in the hunt otherwise this is again going to be just a 2nd place for us. Would gladly take that 2nd place before Badaling though, so still happy times for my team.
