U23 Puncheur Classic

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/pt/pt_lbt.png

Welcome to the first ever U23 Puncheur Classic - you can tell it's a new race because it's name required no imagination to come up with. It takes place on the revered roads of La Doyenne - Liege-Bastogne-Liege - which should show us the best of the best of the next crop of puncheurs. It should also put the non-puncheurs in plenty of pain as they're facing nearly 250km of racing, including some of the toughest short hills in the business.

A very strong startlist for this race, the strongest obviously is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/iso.png Mohoric, who is the biggest favourite for today. There are big expectations for him to win, but at least if he doesn't the one result won't relegate his team like if he failed in a senior race. His biggest challenger is probably pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/ers.png Kudus, who doesn't have the punch or hills ability to match the Slovenian but will handle the long distance of the race better than anyone, which could get him the egde. Perhaps just as dangerous is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/pum.png Herklotz, who has a fast finish on him and can handle long distances very well, but doesn't have the skills in the hills of Mohoric or Kudus.

In the second row of favourites pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/spy.png Ludvigsson seems like a good shout if he has a great day - like Mohoric he's a very complete puncheur and should handle a sprint finish and the distance quite well. Next to him is probably the least developed rider from the big favourites but still able to hold his own: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/evo.png Lopez. The future superstar from Colombia is also a very complete rider for this kind of race already and can handle the harder, longer hills like a pro too.

A host of other names such as pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Moscon, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/lse.png van der Poel, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/ers.png Gebrezgabihier, and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/bcp.png Borisavljevic will be thinking they can take the win here with a complete set of skills but I'd like to mention three men who could do it from a reduced sprint finish: The fastest finishing of the top puncheurs pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/mei.png Shirota, and two sprinters who can handle hills very well in future rivals for best in the world, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros17/t3a.png Caleb Ewan and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/lpu.png Fernando Gaviria. All three of them have a very good chance of winning from the right situation - for the latter two especially the key is being there when it happens.

Bit confused as to why Kaspa didn't make the stats table compared to some weaker riders, but anyway an exciting race to see how our young riders fare, just hoping we're active in some way, waiting on the cobbles to properly show our colours. Pfft

Surely Mohoric will win this, I love him as a rider but I do think that it's always a bit of a shame in U23 races that a couple strong guys can make themselves the only contenders when otherwise we'd have a super open field.

Picking Shirota or Lopez to be best of the rest, but I'm not sure if that means 2nd or 4th. Pfft

Thanks for the preview Jandal! And for posting it Tamijo! Smile

Should be an interesting race to follow with such a startlist, that shoud make for a way different dynamic than our usual MG business. Obviously, it's a race to lose for those three top favorites. Their teams better deliver.

Was surprised to see Jayco rather high in the startlist, but there's no real threat for good result anyway Sad Would be nice to see someone being active though. At least, here's no pressure, which is nice after some rather disappointing Bobridge results.

Wurtz and SKA here from our team, riding in the colors of Carlsberg. Shouldn't do any special, but they're on a rather weak team, so hopefully they will have a free role.

Silvio for the win!

After Calebs stellar performance at the U23 Worlds last year anything could happen for him here. And with a full 8 set of riders i hope to at least see the jersey at some point in the race.
Might be our only entry to LBL for a few years Pfft

Take out the riders that already reached lvl 4 (too early in my opinion) and it would've been a better race. Top 3 looks set, though I'm hoping for a good race from Moscon or Oomen. Maybe Gaviria or even De Plus. Anyway, I'm happy to see these races happening!

Oh, and I also look forward to a good Ewan-Gaviria rivalry!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Actually by adding riders later in last 1-2 seasons, this should automatically happen in future seasons.

Looking forward to this race. Think Ciccone is my only rider. Hence cheering for the Suisse/Italy combined UBS team.

That's not necessarily true, think Padun will be a top climber in Avenir the next couple years for Nemiroff and probably a decent puncheur as well (can't quite remember his stats).

I bet on a breakaway win

Herklotz the clear favourite. Kudus and Mohoric the challengers, hopefully we manage to do so.

Can't wait to have Per in lime for the first time!

I might be dumb or blind, but I see Ludvigsson in the table as one of the favorites but cant seem to find him in the startlists?

4 riders on the start list for us, hopefully they can do ok/ support their leaders well.

Can anybody point me in the direction of the cobbled one of these, I think it was raced earlier in the season, at least the calendar says it should have been and I only half remember it so want to check I didn't miss it, especially as I can't seem to find it now.

Jabrayilov to win from the break? That'd be cool

Looking forward to this. Especially since I don't believe the cobbled one was raced. At least not published.

For my gang I just want to see them active in one way or the other.
