His quote on quote cobble skills was being carried by Fuglsang more or less.

You wont be carried at cobble stones..come on. And that weather and that day, you need skills and power.
At dry weather even Froome did survive well enough (where Martin took a yellow and stage win)

TMM's about to rant about womens cycling, so feel free to ignore the next bit of text: (Pfft)

F*ck sake ASO! Talk about one-step forwards, two-steps back.

I like the La Course route, borrowing the back end of Stage 10. The Romme-Colombiere double is a personal favorite and is a really cool race. At 118km it's got genuine length and challenge, and is properly comparable to the mens race (ignoring the massive chop off of the front end of the stage, but i'm ok with that). Cool stage, should be a great days action.

The f*ck is it just one day! I know absolutely no-one, not fans, not press, not riders liked the ITT but that's because you f*cked it up from start to f*cking finish. Only having a portion of the field ride, which excluded a few time trialists, and then setting off at massive intervals in a pursuit was just f*cking retarded. No wonder no-one liked it, it was a f*cking shit show of an idea.

But because you f*cked it now you claim no-one wants a tw-day event. How about trying an actual two-day race instead? Or two one-days races, a mountain day and the Champs Elysees day. The Champs worked great, everyone loved it. The press enjoyed it. The riders enjoyed it. And the fans enjoyed it. But f*ck everyone right.

F*cking ASO, useless sh*ts. Thank f*ck you've kept the Ardennes races and Madrid Challenge intact, otherwise people might think you don't want to support the womens side of the sport. C*cks.

(I might be angry...)

They had the perfect opportunity to do the La Course a 3-day race IMO - Mountain stage on the first day, then an ITT and finally a dash through C-E. But nope, let's take a random stage midway through Le Tour and everyone will be "happy".

It'd have been fine by me if the C-E stage for the women was its own race and the mountain one - La Course Alpine Challenge (or some sorts of). But it boggles my mind on how ASO made such a bone-headed decision. It's bad enough that they give the wildcards to the cr@%%y French teams (oh the pain - I'd rather watch Aqua Blue at the Tour than Cofidis or Delko even though the latter would feature a Bulgarian rider)

Speaking of Aqua Blue and wildcards, RCS is considering to give wildcards to just 2 Italian teams (Androni and Willier). It's near certainty that Israel Cycling Academy would be invited on the novelty that Israel would host the start. The final wildcard is rumoured to be given to Aqua Blue - not NIPPO nor Bardiani. With the two pre-race positive doping samples of Riffoni and Pirazzi, Bardiani would most likely miss the Giro for the first time since their formation in 1982 (the team has been regular Giro participant up until this point).

I hope Nibali goes for the Giro again, imo he is not strong enough anymore to compete in the high mountains with Froome even if he has 3 minutes of an advantage before...

He is the same age with Froome (to be precise 6 months older or sth like that). Hope he will go for Tour. It seems to be rare to see him there. Tom should also try
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

As much as I like Bardiani, they had an incredibly crappy season. Hopefully Albanese can come out of his 2017 slump.

They already missed it in 2009 after the Sella show in 2008.

No your f*cking right to say this if the Tour of Britain organisers can run a fully functionally 5 day race apart from the men's why can't the biggest race organisers run a multi-day women's race alongside the biggest cycling race in the world with all the infrastructure they already have

Still a much better mountain stage than last year tho, probably the hardest on the women's calender.

The great Libertine Seguros at it again, dissecting this year's route. Extremely good post (as per tradition) and funny rants about the incompetency of ASO, always a great read tbh (whether you agree or not). You have to scroll a little down. Finally a proper analysis, its miles better than your standard journalist: cobbles, check, Alpe d' Huez, check, 65 km-much short very explosive very entertaining stage, check and finally, not much time trials because they are booooring, check. Then we must have a great route on our hands!

Whoever that Libertine Seguros is, congratulations. I've rarely red such an incredible amount of bullshit in one post about cycling.

By far the person who knows the most about cycling I've encountered by a long mile. But different opinions, I guess Wink

Remember the guy Bardiani signed to replace Pirazzi and Ruffoni? Well... At least he's got the greatest excuse so far

I rarely come to this place for the last few weeks and Croatia14's post is just one of the reasons of it.
I agree with Libertine Seguros and Riis123. (I am also a member on that forum with the same username)

Negatives:
Only 30 km of ITT which is ridiculous. (75-80 km of ITT should be the lowest limit, preferably around 100)
35 km of TTT. Ugh. It already gives strong teams a huge advantage.
Alpe d'Huez MTF from traditional side.
65 km stage.
The Alpine stages being in wrong order.
So many short stages.
No gravel roads unlike what was rumoured.
The La Rosiere stage is too soft and too short.

Positives:
Quimper stage looks good.
Le Grand Bornand stage is good but they could have used Ramaz between Glieres and Romme and it would have been totally awesome.
A MTF on Col du Portet. (Though the length being 65 km is downright pathetic)
The Laruns stage. (Though it could have been better designed, for example they could have climbed Viscos-Luz Ardiden after Tourmalet as a pass.
The inclusion of Col du Pre.
Cobble stage. (Though 154 km is way too short)

Yeah well, he/she raises a lot of great points, but Im not as down on it as the poster. Its certainly better than this year, better than 2009 and 2012, the absolute dirt worst GT designs I can remember. Funnily enough, all from TdF.

I think its a fine route everything considered. I wish I/we could expect more, but it is like it is. In the last 10 years, its probably a bit above average route for a Tour de France. Had it not been for the Alps/the cobbled stage I had been very down on it, but has some very good elements.
