Ayubowan! 2017
Ayubowan everyone, from Ayubowan! Sri Lanka's only professional cycling team is returning to the PT for the 2017 season, and is hoping to make a better impression than in our previous PT participation in 2015. Last season saw the team expand to include 10 Sri Lankan riders, and we hope to bring even more through the ranks this time around - scouting reports from the domestic scene indicate that there are some real talents ready to turn pro. The biggest change though is the official end of our nationality restriction for the rest of the team. No longer will we stick only to France and the UK for other riders. Instead, we want the best talent from around the world - regardless of what it says on the front of their passport.
This season also sees a major change in sponsors for the team, with only Sri Lankan companies on board. We'd like to thank Pernod Ricard for their backing over the past few seasons, but it was a parting of the ways that we agreed was mutually beneficial. The most notable difference as a result of all this is an end to the traditional blue and white we have worn since 2015, with the team instead wearing much brighter attire (as you'll see below).
As you can see, the_hoyle has done a superb job with both our main jersey, and the Sri Lankan National Champion jersey - which will be worn by Tushantha Rajapakshage in both road races and TTs this upcoming season.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
As preparations for the 2017 season get underway, talk in Ayubowan!
HQ at the moment is heavily focused on transfer targets for the upcoming season. While the team can't comment on those riders currently with a team due to the sensitivity of the ongoing renewals process - and for the same reason can't discuss which of our own riders we will be keeping - we can talk about our interest in some riders currently residing in the free agency.
In 2015 we spent a painful year in the PT without a big name leader to give us anything to cheer for, due to a strict nationality focus that backfired on us. This season that focus has been scrapped, and so we'll be looking to bring in a big star. And the man we think is perfect for the team we want to build is the one and only Jan Bakelants. We know it'll be a fight to secure his signature, but we're confident we can do it.
That is not to say we don't have fallback targets if we can't bring him in. His former Bouygues Telecom teammate Rein Taaramae is high on our list, as is strongman sprinter Dan Holloway. Realistically we will only get one of these riders, but we'd be delighted with that alone.
There are of course other names on our list, but we're not revealing them for the moment - and definitely not the order of priority they are in. What we will say is that there are a number of talents we have our eyes on as well, and of course that a fair few Sri Lankans will be getting offers from us to turn pro.
Jan Bakelants - doing what he does best |

Great to see that Bibby led the way for you last season - even if he still didn't manage to win in Japan. The end of Bouygues certainly leads to opportunities in the transfers. Good luck in ensuring it goes better than in 2015!

Thanks SN! Bibby was absolutely fantastic for us last season, and if he was a few years younger I'd consider training him this season to make him a useful PT rider.
As for it going better than 2015, can it go worse? |

We can confirm that we have completed renewals for the upcoming season, with all of our riders remaining with the team heading into transfers. Only Adrien Petit didn't accept our original offer - and in fact he was the only rider to get a pay rise. We now head into the transfer season with 21 riders on the team, and 1.4 million in cap space remaining.

I really like the new jersey. Has a nice Sri Lankan feel to it!
Also raising an eyebrow and making a note about the availability of a couple of riders...

Also, agree with Atlantius that jersey does somehow feel really Sri Lankan, which is cool to see in a jersey It'll be fun to see how you handle your second swing in PT, especially if you go in without Laporte!

Interesting to see all riders not from Sri Lanka being available or maybe available. Should make for a very nice transfer season for you with a lot of activity. Also some ambitious goals, so yeah, you'll definitely need a puncheur.
Definitely hoping we'll talk in transfers, as you've got some great riders listed (possibly/unlikely) available for a transfer. In any case, best of luck building for the PT, hopefully you'll be able to stay up this time around |
