The manager of the new Aviva team handed in his free agent bids to the ICL organisers this afternoon. We noticed a few beads of sweat on his forehead. Asked about it, he replied: "I sure am nervous and won't sleep well until we hear back and find out how many of these riders will choose our team, we have no idea who the competition is after." Is there a plan B in place in case most bids fail? "Of course there is! We'll beg the other teams to give us some decent riders!"

Thanks, although he's actually my third highest AVG rider. Maybe I should be worried about that but I'll ignore it for now :lol:

Bosch Cycling Team

Bosch announces new cycling team for southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland

High-Tech Manufacturer Bosch announced plans to create a cycling team which will focus on riders from southern Germany or Austria and Switzerland.

Negotiations with potential riders from those focused countries are still ongoing, so no final announcements can be made, but the team registered for a CT license and will have its base in Stuttgart, Germany.

The city of Stuttgart will also play an important role with this team as they are the second main Sponsor of the team.

The CEO of Bosch announced that their initial season might be a hard one and that the main focus is to get some experience in the cycling business. A WT license might be in the focus in the next few years.

When asked for the reasons why a company well-known for car equipment is starting a cycling team, he answered that Bosch is always looking for new channels of get in touch with potential customers and new recruiting options for the fast growing company. "A Cycling team is adressing all the people that we might not get through classic media channels and that have not necessarily the affection to car equipment! We want to raise awareness for our company and of course help young people pursue their dreams in a cycling career."

The illustrous French water brand is one of the Tour's biggest paying sponsors, and it's moving to a different side of the sport. Instead of having their names only in the final kilometers of a stage, they will have it in a professional team's equipment, to bring a much broader exhibtion, whilst at the same time be represented by riders from throughout the world helping its globalization.

Havas Communications is a French media group and it's starting it's journey in the cycling world. Although a newborn team the company has depleted a lot of trust into the project and is one of the main finnancial supports for the team.

The team is a French Project with it's base in the Alpine city of Modane, with a secondary focus in Switzerland but it has a lot of interest in riders from various nationalities. The goal of these sponsors is to get the brands as international as possible and the more countries represented the bigger the image of the team.

CarbonSports protests against ICL's new commercial plans


A month has passed since ICL commisioner Roger Bikex has announced new rules for the PR activities of all participating teams. Every team has to schedule ten press conferences for the international broadcastes throughout the year. Refusing to make those press conferences will lead to punishments for the next seasons which could be as high as the wages of three riders.

Fan groups of many teams protest against these rules because they think that the new strategy is only one step towards the commercialism of the sport: "We have to be cautious to not deflate the interest in the sport. The sport is beautiful as it is and we don't want to ruin it by adding too much show around it. What's next? A concert halfway through the race by Anastacia, Madonna or Helene Fischer? No, we don't want that!"

The manager of CarbonSports seems to agree. On today's press conference he read out a short statement asking other teams to join his boycott of Free Agency R1.1 in protest against the commercial plans and replied to all further questions: "I'm here so I won't get fined."

Polestar Cyan ProCycling's stance on the recent media changes


In the ICL community there is stong protest against recent media changes surrounding the media presence in this year's ICL. One of the new rules set by the ICL commisioner Bikex is affecting the teams as they are now required to have 10 scheduled press conferences during the season and they have to include journalists from the international broadcasters. Asked about the new rule,
ivaneurope, CEO of Polestar Cyan ProCycling AB, replied: "I understand that we need to schedule conferences with the media, but in my oppinion 10 are too much if you don't have anything to say". He also pointed out the fines that the teams may get: "I disagree on the punishments set by the ICL and I'd strongly advocate to decrease the ammount of press conferences during the season. 5-6 is the optimal number"

Asked about joining the boycott of the Free Agency 1.1 he strongly denied any participation: "As Polestar Cyan is preparing for its debut season we're more or less obliged to go to the free agency. Our most important task right now is to wrap up our roster for the start of the seasons. I will not discuss anything else at the present moment. Thank you"

Statoil Pro Cycling silent in the storm


As the hectic free agent process has begun, the mumbelings amongst the team leaders regarding the new media responsibilitys has grown louder every day. Our attempts to speak with the new teams manager, hillis91, fell to short. But we did recive a statement by e-mail.

"We in Statoil Pro Cycling are content with the new rules and look forward to assembeling a strong squad for the coming season."

We are theirfor left with our own speculation, as the statement was generic at best. What does the team leader really feel? Time will tell.

ICL News: TVM manager at Giant Asia launch

Today saw the official launch of TVM Cycling Team's new affiliate squad which will this year ride in the U23 category. The team will be known as the "Giant Asia Racing Team" and will be largely comprised of riders from the South-East Asian region.

On hand for the event in Taipei were last season's TVM riders Tan Peng and Koen Bekker; the manager of TVM; the team's initial signings; the Mayor of Taipei; and the CEO of Giant Bicycles. In a brief press conference following the official presentation, the manager of the main team was quizzed on several issues currently affecting the ICL. Here are some of his responses.

on the lack of detail in the new team's presentation...
Well, we don't have a DS (directeur sportif) or many staff hired, only half our roster and haven't finalised our jersey yet! We felt maybe we had already left it too late to do an official launch but with the signings of three youngsters it seemed like a good time. So that's why we're here today!

on CarbonSports media relations boycott...
(laughs) I'm not surprised, those of us in the know were always aware that they would not make any bids... without saying too much, I doubt the reforms are the sole reason behind that. I like the manager, he's a good guy and I'm sure he's loving all this free publicity from you guys.

on the riders released by the team...
We knew Stef (Clement) would retire before the season began, and Stefan Cohnen was always a temporary signing as a rider. His role was to mentor our kids and he now joins our training staff for 2018. Peiró's going home - he battled homesickness throughout the year. Giant offered him a development contract but... it's a tough life for a young man worlds away from his family, you know. We understand.

Florian (Burkhardt) didn't meet our expectations, but we're very happy to see him back in the game. Same with Zheng, we wish him the best.



He also commented on possible rider signings in the transfer period.



on Alessandro de Marchi...
He's a talented rider, no doubt about it. We've had no contact with him but his name was raised once or twice as someone to look at bringing in.

Samuel Sánchez...
I won't lie, it is true we were considering Samu, but after his doping positive we both agreed it was in our best interests to hold off on any talks until a verdict is reached.

Thomas Dekker...
Okay, he's Dutch but he also tested positive which as you well know is a deal-breaker for us.



Following a subsequent question regarding Matteo Rabottini, he asked if the press were "trying to insult" him and walked out.

A batch of new talents at Liberty Seguros
Against the initial strategy pre-season, Liberty Seguros hasn't hired a new big star so far, but rather took to signing four fine talents. This include Spaniards López Gallego Mikel María and Quituera Beñat. The team is also joined by Van der Poel's good friend Willem Hofland*. Another signing is future top time trialist Gonzales Lucio.

At the press conference, Liberty Seguros has prefered to talk about his rivals rather than his new talents. Hehas been harsh in his critique of recent exploits of other World Tour teams. "I am sure we know who they are, but they have signed so much and have completley exploded their budget. This is irresponsible I wonder if they had a strategy. What will their sponsor say; 'good job, wasting our money'? We at Liberty Seguros, as the cycling team of an insurance company, have always been about responsible and sustainable sportive and economical growth. I am sure the UCI will have to jump in to finance the budget gaps, whilst they push the rest of us over the abyss wih their financial onslaught."

In the first round of transfers we managed to sign four new riders:

Bob Jungels is the most attractive and expensive name from the quartet. At 900 wage he'll be the third highest paid rider on the team. His speciality is time trialing, he's the current Luxembourgian TT champion, but he's also very decent allround.

Yoann Paillot is a talented French time trialist, a department we've been lacking in the past few years. At 27 years of age he hasn't yet reached his full potential.

Pierre-Luc Périchon comes in as mountain domestique, and with his 31 years of age he can transfer his experiences in cycling to the younger members of the squad.

Rüdiger Selig is our new German leadout man and cobblestone stronghold.

To comply with rulings set by the governing bodies we must sign at least three more riders, one of which must be able for our development squad. Who those riders might be and where they might come from is at this moment unknown. You'll hear back from us when we have more information.

Santos' Strategy Called Into Question
With the FA signings of many riders, including resigning Appo and Sverre and signing world class riders such as Degenkolb and Majka, Santos-Euskadi are now rumoured to be more in debt than they were in surplus before the window, spending double their supposed budget.

As journalists and reporters wait impatiently, the young sporting manager of Santos, Jack Peralta, sweats backstage as he’s briefed on the team’s stance. His first interview, and he’s not sure what to do. He’s an Italian surrounded by Spaniards, Basques and Kiwis. Strange mix. He is on the verge of tears as he’s shouted at in Spanglish he just understands. But he is a confident lad, and his cocky smile starts to return.

However it disappears, and the sweat is back, once he steps into the limelight and the reporters squabble over the first question. He points at one journo from a Spanish newspaper that he recognised from watching the manager’s previous press conference before the Free Agency round.

“Why are you people so in debt, spending so much money?” he asks. Peralta smiles nervously, then maniacally. The sweat pours out ever faster and Jack knows he has to open his mouth.

“It was, erm, uh…” he looks around for any sign of help. Then, seeing his fellow newbie, an Argentinian soigneur, he acts.

“It was Santiago’s fault!” he shouts, pointing at the bewildered young boy and running away desperately.

News Flash
First part of the free agency is done for the new Statoil Pro Cycling team. The team clearly had a plan of capturing young Norwegian riders, signing a whooping 11 Norwegians in the first window. Including the youngsters, the team managed to make the NC ITT champion Truls Korsaeth sign the dotted line. Getting a champion sure would help the team. The Devolpment Team also got their squad filled up, as 10 of 17 new signings are eligable for the team.

"Now we can focus on building the team around Enger and Ringheim, aswell as maybe add another captain to the team. Exciting times ahead for us." said the team leader Hillis91 after exiting the team HQ.

Next up is the first offical transfer window, will teams unload wages to go after Tony Martin or Chris Froome? Time will tell.
