Contador retires... what are your best memories about him?
larsaliknt
So, our dear Pistolero has decided to retire right after this year's Vuelta a España. I think he will go down as a legend in this sport, even though that legend will always be tainted by his doping scandal.

What is, according to you, his most memorable moment? Which of his attacks left a lasting impression on you?

Fuente Dé of course: https://www.youtu...IFMTmpvmGw Easily one of my top 3 moments in cycling

But to be honest, guy has too many stories to share after he retires: The showdown with Rasmussen at peyresourde, the look he gave to Armstrong and that Verbier performance, the duels with Schleck and Ricco and Evans... Then, I loved his entire 2014 campaign, with Tirreno-Adriatico's long distance attack, winning Pais Vasco in commanding fashion, and that insane Dauphine duel with Froome as highlights. Of course the abandoment then in le Tour and afterwards his triumph at Vuelta. Top class year that was, especially considering how shitty 2013 was, yet he never came so close to the Tour podium again. And then of course, Giro 2015 as one of the best GTs I ever saw, with Mortiolo chase as the pinnacle. I still watch now and then youtube clips of that race. It was really that good. Even in the Vuelta and Tour recently he created some legendary moments such as Formigal. Oh man pistolero, you will be missed. What a legend.

Giro 2011, his most dominant race, attacking in straight headwind on Etna and attacking 3 climbs out on Passo Giau on the queen stage which is the best stage I have watched.

But I don't think he will retire after the Vuelta. Wink

Haven't really been a fan of Contador especially when he was dominating the Tour, but then again he gave us the gift of Andy Schleck not winning the Tour so I don't know how I guess it evens out in the end.

He was perhaps the biggest rider of his generation. I guess the Tour 2007 would be my highlight of him.

He really was so spectacular in a brutal race. Etna was just a show of force. Also one of my fav GTs of course. Loved the stage win of Tiralongo with Contador coming up to him. Smile

Love Contador! Its a sad day to hear he retire. He realy know how to make races for us who love cycling! and i thought the clenbuterol case was a hoax. But i understand that internacional cycling didnt have another Choice than to convict him after all the scandals.

Cycling isn't just Tour.

- 3 Vuelta and 2 Giro. Now tell cyclists that won the 3 GT in the last years: Froome? Armstrong? Quintana? Just Contador and Nibali.

- Contador won the Giro and Vuelta in the same year, 2008. Before him, you have Pantani, Indurain, Hinout, Merckx, Anquetil and Coppi.

The best stage racer of all time is American and goes by the name of Lance Armstrong.

Contador in a strong second place.

A great rider in his time. He is retiring at the right time, although he is still capable of challenging in shorter races even in Grand Tours are now beyond him.

Would be nice to see him stay on for a year as a pure Mountain Attacker. He's still more than capable of a super-domestique/KOM rider.
