His speech was rather uninspirational indeed.

There is just nothing there - he consistently seems to say what he thinks people want to hear but it comes across as absolutely souless and insincere...

I have no idea who he really his, for all I know he might be a nice guy but I have nothing that seems remotely genuine to make a judgement :/

I completely agree with this. When Froome speaks, it feels to incredibly un sincere. I didn't see the speech, but I have heard enough interviews to make my judgement on that one. I think he has personality and he can get angry quickly, yet when someone sticks a microphone in his head all that vanishes and he can't say a bad word about nothing.

I see him as a typical "PR sporstman speaker"....he says what he has to, nothing else, just phrases that we have heard many times across sports. I dont think it is unusual in cycling, majority is like that.

While many will spout the standard phrases you usually get some idea of their personality from interviews, even if in a very narrow sense and of course some can be engaging while avoiding anything remotely controversial.

With Froome I think it's untypical - he says words like "amazing" while everything about him is screaming this really isn't amazing in any way, shape or form but I guess I should feel that way so I'll say it.

I suspect like quite a lot of successful sports or business people he rates very high on the sociopathic scale and emotions don't get in the way but he trys to communicate the emotion he feels should be there in interviews and it just falls totally flat as a result - superlatives with no substance whatsoever.

It's no crime not to be overly emotional and, like I say, who knows he might be a perfectly nice guy...but it just seems...well, odd in any interview I've ever seen.

A bit weird with the green jersey not even top 10 in the last stage, must have been some years since that happened. Especially with Sagan,Cavendish and Kittel out,

Good point. It's a real shame Kittel crashed out too, it might've gone down to the wire.

So who will challenge Froome in Vuelta? I was curious to see Tom D riding Vuelta but he decided to skip it and focus mainly on worlds.

Taking into account that Valverde, Porte, Quintana, Pinot, will not challenge Froome this year who will?

Contador: He has not decided yet if he will ride and more important Trek will have some problems with the set-up of a squad for Vuelta for him. I do not know what to expect from him but I am curious to see but his team will be pretty shit.

Nibali: Maybe Nibali has a chance. He rode Giro and maybe he will be fresher than Froome. Is he the biggest threat for Froome?

Who is there Next? Uran, Bardet, Aru, Martin - I do not know if they will ride and I think they can not challenge Froome in Vuelta.
Further Yates, Chaves, Zakarin? I dont think so.
I would say that Nibali and maybe Contador will be Froome main opponents. But If Froome wants to win double Tour/Vuelta I would say this is most convenient situation for him because there is lack of tough competitors. And most likely, considering current situation around GC guys he is going to do it
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Yes it was. He was ahead, with 2 sprint stages to go. He would've dominated Paris, looking at the sprint, so even Matthews winning the other stage wouldn't have made to big of an impact.

World record winning margin then Smile Froome has been talking about the Tour Vuelta double and the Tour hasn't been massively draining.
I think a few of the Tour contenders will be there so it could be quite open.

After comments like these I more and more hope that Froome gets his ass whipped. Especially by Nibali, the only rider that can piss Froome properly off.

df_Trek
Nibali is the only one that can ride with his own strategy/objective, and not a simple race against someone (Froome indeed)

My comment was tongue in cheek and simply stating that if Contador is being listed as one of Froome's "main opponents" then the winning margin will be large.

I doubt Contador will be a main opponent. I think there will be a strong line up at the Vuelta and it'll be a much tougher race than the Tour. Sky won't be as strong. I think the Vuelta will be a much tougher race and more difficult to win. Froome will be favourite, but not as strong a favourite as at the Tour.

I pretty much agree with Riis and Ian Russell. It is pretty common nowadays that most athletes talk 0815 phrases and bla but it's a bit more odd with Froome. However maybe this has less to do with him than with our expectations. The dude is an outstanding athlete and has achieved 4 tour wins and I congratulate him to each one and he deserve each one. But it also means that he should be a superstar like Armstrong. But the guy is awfully shy and has a sorta weird way of showing happiness behind a facade of scientific gain, big budget team and a big media cooperation. That's just the thing that rubs me a bit on the wrong side. Persona, media image, achievements and actions just don't align that well. Ian said, he may be a geniunely nice guy personally and at least as a father, Froome seems to be a great dad. But as a sport personality he is imo severely lacking in the charisma department and thats including his bilzhariza thingy and all. I also remember when we met him, he was suddenly a world beater and within a year he was a TdF winner. There was little time to get to know the guy like we do with the current french class, with Quintana, or earlier Contador and Nibali, Cance and Boonen etc. To Froome's credit though, I think he is himself aware of it and has tried to work on it in the past years. Maybe he is also just right person in a wrong sport; an introverted person in a dirty team in a damn dirty sport, obsessed with stories and entertainment..

Also nice thing: Froome helped propose a fan to his gf who is a massive Froome fan. Check out the vid:
https://www.faceb...1325320096

Pretty cool and great from Froome that he does it and ofc a very nice stunt. Then again, the guy proposing is a journalist, so uhm, yeah, another thing where you can think like, so is this a publicity stunt or a geniungely nice act? Maybe our society is also so cynical we see behind everything a ruse. hm.

Doesn't change the fact that Matthews is basically the Jenson Button of green jerseys.

Ah, sorry, i thought you mean stage wins...but are you aware that in years he has won the Tour, he also won Dauphiné (three times), Romandie, Oman and Andalucia? Also 2nd at Vuelta (twice), 2nd at Tirreno and 3rd at OG TT?

So to say..."again with 0 wins, just Tour", that is another non-truth.

again you are miss leading. Starting to give me list he's last year results.
