Cav touched Sagan's wheel. Cav's mistake.

If you see it from another angle you'd see that Sagan hit him with his elbow.

Sagan's elbow was out but not touching Cav. It was done to balance himself from falling. See again.

Considering how popular Sagan is, DSQ for him would not be ideal for TdF

Sagan is a grub fullstop. Elbow out to balance what alot of hogwash stop listening to tv commentators lol

Super hype for tomrrow's stage anyway!

Only reason Sagans elbow was up is that Cav's lever was pushing it up. If you can't see that you're dumb enough to become a uci commissaire

Cavendish has been pretty reckless in the past, too. He is hardly an advocate for making sprints safer, which seems to be the UCI goal at this Tour, like it or not.

Fair enough. Why not do anything about Demare clearly changing his line and cutting in front of Bouhanni?

Here's my two pence worth (for what it's worth)

The crash was clearly Sagan's fault. Anyone saying the crash was Cavendish's fault is simply being ridiculous.

There was enough space to go round Sagan's right hand side because Demare did it. Cavendish was on Demare's wheel and was following him round Sagan when Sagan veered to the right and forced Cavendish into the barriers.

In an attempt to avoid the barriers that Sagan had pushed him into, Cavendish made a slight movement back to the left and came into contact with the back/hip area of Sagan which took him down.

I don't believe Sagan used his elbow to deliberately take down Cavendish however he definitely raised it in Cavendish's direction. Whether or not this was to stop him going round him, a natural reaction to being touched at high speed or simply to balance himself we will never know.

In isolation I think the DQ is harsh. People are saying that DQ is for a number of previous misdemeanours at the tour and if that is the case it is more understandable. In isolation it was dangerous riding by Sagan to swerve into Cavendish, it did cause the crash and did result in a fellow rider getting seriously injured. In isolation the action probably deserved a demotion to last place and a loss of points from the stage, with the usual Swiss Frank fine.

What he says is "I don't know, the jury will do what they do."

Well said and I completely agree, although I would also say that this is a difficult situation to judge so I don't find it ridiculous if anyone disagrees with me. But I agree that the elbow is not the problem or even relevant. The dangerous veering to the right caused the crash and was Sagan's fault. He deserves punishment but DQ seems too harsh.

Cool to see a former hard sprinter Baden Cooke said:

"It would bet that whoever made this decision has never been involved in a big bunch sprint before" Cooke told Cyclingnews. "I think race commissaires should always have raced a bike. Not always professionally but at some level. This is a dangerous sport, and we need the people who are calling the shots to understand it."

I totally agree !!!!

Excuse me, but what???

I am not sure if i feel bad because so many drinks yesterday, or because i have watched the sprint to catch up and see my cycling hero being thrown out of Le Tour, because Cavendish ride straight into him...

Again, what??? Wake me up

Anyways, a decision such as this would surely help bring Sagan down to the ground for a while. So while it wasn't necessary, I applaud the officials for their balls to do it.

Look Avin, I know you are a fan of Sagan. But the crash was his fault. I don't believe he deliberately charged into Cavendish, but his change of directly forced Cavendish into the barrier and so caused the crash.

The DQ is harsh so I agree with you there. But to try to claim the crash was Cavendish's fault is simply ridiculous. For once no blame can be apportioned to Cavendish.

Ok, so Sagan got thrown out of the race for the elbow hit that never happened, that is sad and funny at same time. I am done with Le Tour 2017, pinnacle of disgrace.

Cavendish did his typical dick move, which is riding with his head into another sprinter. Bad for him that he choosed the Terminator, who just balanced it like in dancing school. One does not simly rides into Terminator and lives to tell. Pfft

Calm down mate, I know its just an overreaction, so no problem. I love how you single my opinion personally out when Kirchen and Paul has a much harder stance that mine on this case... I guess they are even bigger idiots? Pfft

Yep, but unlike with you, i lost faith in them to change that. Pfft

It was a reaction to the post that Sagan needs to brought down to the ground. That is bullshit, what does that even mean? This should be only about what happened yesterday, it is sick to think that it happened because of arrogance of Sagan, who is btw. very respectable and respected rider in the peloton. Some people here created the false image od non-respect, cockiness and arrogance for Sagan, but that is just plain wrong. What for example do you mean with "he gives horrible interviews"?? He is always humble and says what he feels, that is a problem?

I personally like Sagan. I think he comes over as a nice person, but then I think Cavendish also comes over as a nice person.

I think they ARE both arrogant. But there is nothing wrong with a bit of arrogance if it's justified. Both are the best at what they do and so what is wrong with them knowing they are the best?

The problem with arrogance comes when is is paired with rudeness or ignorance or is simply not justified for example someone like Bouhanni comes across as arrogant but has not right to be.

Both Sagan and Cav are arrogant. But as Avin says, they are also quite humble and polite when spoken to. You've also got to take into account that 99% of interviews with cyclists take place while they are warming up or directly after a finish when the adrenaline is high and tempers are frayed.

Lol. Yeah ok.

I just think he has a tendency of acting like a tool and being a bit too arrogant, many journalists have said it that he is extremely hard to do interviews with because he seems so indifferent to it. I think thats justified. Maybe thats just his personality, I don't know, then he obviously shouldn't be faulted as much..

Then he had the indecent in G-W this year which I thought were pretty brutal when he shouldered Vantomme of the road. But that stuff obviously shouldn't have anything to do with the DSQ yesterday (I don't think it did). But I do think that the DQ will make Sagan feel less untouchable.

Btw I know how it feels, it just sucks man and feels totally unfair. Thats how I felt when Valv crashed, but its obviously different..
