Critérium du Dauphiné 2017
Selwink
Will Chris Froome finally show good shape? Will Arberg find his way to troll this thread then as well. Will Porte pick up another GC victory? Will Bardet (or Voeckler?) bring vain hope that there will be a new French winner in the Tour? Or will Contador shut everyone's mouth?

On a more serious note, noticed König back on the startlist. Hope he can get back to his old shape finally Smile

Hoping to see good rides from Talansky, Dan, or both. Talansky looked to be climbing well in Cali, and Dan has the hilly stage to have some fun.

As far as contenders go, I'm not sure the race will be indicative of the Tour much, but it's always an exciting race regardless.

I see Porte as the main favourite. Then Contador, Froome and Valverde.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Looks like it's gonna be De Gendt for the stage, with a great solo effort. Kinda glad I put him in my Velogames yesterday evening Smile

what a class bike rider De Gendt is

Pretty dull stage after all, but the Dauphiné isn't known for its opening stages.

It seems like the riders are wanting to save their energy for the tough final days of the race including the odd Alpe d'Huez stage

Seems like König DNF today, according to procyclingstats. His comeback didn't last long then..
Thank you Andy for everything!

Two breakaways in 3 days. Guess that's what happens when the best sprinters in the race ride for the weakest teams.

You are czech right? Here is the article and some words from his team doctor:

https://sport.idne...istika_tm2

For non-czech readers, they say something like: It was always going to be very hard, with almost 9months since last race (with small Mallorca intermezzo this year). They dont want to put heavy load on Konig yet and tempo is high in France, so it is better to save him now from torture of Dauphiné and continue steady progress to Vuelta leadership...

So i guess no Tour for him? Which makes sense.
I'll be back

Yup, I read it later yesterday. I reacted right after the stage and I was worried if it's the knee again. But this make sense, hopefully he will left the problems behind him and will be ready for Vuelta.
Thank you Andy for everything!

Why send him to such a high quality race at this stage though?

He's pulled out after 2 flat stages. Surely they must have known he wasn't in good enough form to race the Dauphine. Why not build him up in lower quality races? This is just going to destroy his confidence.

Hopefully he'll be back to his former shape soon but his comeback needs to be managed more sensibly than this surely?

Pfft

The first three stage winners of the 69th Critérium du Dauphiné belong to a team sponsored by their national lottery: Belgium's Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal), France's Arnaud Démare (FDJ) and Dutchman Koen Bouwman (LottoNL-Jumbo).
