Antonio Andolini | Il Lombardia

Chris Froome will struggle to beat Laporte with such a small advantage on him at this point.

Agonisingly close to the yellow jersey, maybe if Antonio stays attentive there'll be another shot on a future stage? Smile

Also, beautiful story, haven't really commented yet but have been following closely. Grin

Great job by Antonio in the TT, but I think he will have to wait for another year to wear the Maillot Jaune.

As you are riding the 2008 Tour route, next stage is a flat one, and then it comes Super Besse, where Kwiatkowski should be a big favourite for the win

I feel like I am the only one who doesn't hate Froome Pfft

Coupled with less than a minute on Chaves before the mountains it's not looking good for Froomey Sad

More amazing writing here Ian, hyped for the rest of Le Tour! Unlucky for Ando to miss out on yellow but hilly stage means anything could happen, even a cheeky late attack and utilise his track skills tomorrow if Fontana doesn't mind?

These Kwiatek type of riders are incredibly strong in PCM, same for guys like Alaphilippe. I can imagine to see Kwiatek winning it!

Yellow was always gonna be hard in this case, but still a good effort. Maybe stage hunting near the end of the race is an option? For now it'll be a bit more suffering for Antonio I'm afraid.

trekbmc - Glad to hear that. Maybe but with the mountains coming closer, it'll be very tough, especially since it's Kwiatek in yellow. I don't see where Antonio can take time on him.

Aquarius97 - Amazing that you know that!

Raziz - I certainly don't hate him. It's just an interactive question because he's lost a lot of time already Smile

jandal7HouseMD - Froome will have a tough time, but PCM can have big differences in the mountains. A late attack is Antonio's trademark move so far but in the Tour it's damn hard to avoid a mass sprint.

Croatia14 - The mountains will see him lose time, though, I think. But, yes, those riders are very strong on PCM like Kwiatek, Ala, Sagan.

Selwink - He did his best. It would never be easy. Stage hunting is a nice option for him.

Tamijo
It only been 4/21 teoreticly Fromy is not out of it yet, but there are a lot of other options open.

Looking forvard to see how Antonio will preform on Tourmalet

Great start to the first TDF. Hoping for some more action from Antonio in the remaining stages Smile

Everything is looking great on the GC Smile

Wow, this story is amazing. Totally new to pcm, and crazy to here about these stories. Just one question are these races fiction or do you actually race them on pcm?

95% of all stories are based on actual PCM racing and results, as this one.

So happy to see so many of you following and liking this. It fills me with joy!
Sorry the updates are not more regularly but I hope the quality triumphs over quantity!

Tamijo - Tourmalet will be a great stage. Maybe not for Antonio but great nonetheless Pfft

AbhishekLFC - Hope so, too!

sutty68 - Yeah. So close to yellow but we then seem to forget 2nd is amazing for him at this point in his career!

Nepo - Thanks very much for your post. Your question has been answered above Smile Hope you'll stick around and enjoy!

Stage 5 was a sprinter's stage, with nothing much to say. Fontana with a brilliant third place and Bono picking up the intermediate sprint in a three-man breakaway. One picture to summarize my race: leading-out Fontana, while wearing the white jersey.

Tour de France - Stage 6
i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf402_zpssyzsfhoj.jpg

Pre-race
The race up the Super-Besse. It's classified as hilly but take my word for it, it's a semi-mountain stage. At least a mountain finish. I can't possibly expect to take the Maillot Jaune here and so my yellow dream will have to wait at least another year. Nonetheless I'm motivated to make something of this stage. The final climb isn't that long nor is it that steep. With my big engine, I might ride a good result.

The Race
Grancitelli has a great ability of being in the right break. Today he was a sole escapee and picked up all the important KoM points, assuring him at least another day in the KoM jersey, and adding to our earnings this Tour.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf403_zpstpg6zhem.jpg

At the foot of the Super-Besse, my legs filled with lead and I had to let the head of the peloton go. Malori stayed with me to help me as much as possible.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf404_zpsiwzr9gm2.jpg

But after about a kilometer, the terrain smoothed out a bit more. Meanwhile my legs had adapted to the uphill a bit more and I started feeling better and better. I left the peloton behind, looking for the Yellow Jersey.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf405_zpsznb8uupg.jpg

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf406_zpshwkyyb1f.jpg

Kwiatkowski was nog having a great day and I caught up with him. Was Yellow still a possiblity? Probably not, since we were far from being at the head of the race. Still, my confidence was boosted by this effort!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf407_zpsk9s9qjgy.jpg

Valverde won the stage, a great victory for him.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf408_zpsjn84yqwj.jpg

In the final straight line, still going uphill, I started my sprint against Kwiatkowski. He kept the pace for about 10 meters and then I noticed he parked, almost literally. He was totally busted. I tried to gain as much time as possible!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf409_zpspe2inmkz.jpg
i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tdf410_zpsooi5jx08.jpg

Unfortunately, I crossed the finish 2 minutes behind the race winner and so Yellow is out of the question. Van Garderen takes the jersey instead. However, my final kilometers and 14th place in the race is a major boost for me today. I save the White Jersey by 7 seconds, so my sprint was worth it!

Froome is doing a great time gaining back time. From a lost position he's actually passed Contador and Quintana in the GC already. Is this Tour his to take? Or will a French rider finally win the Tour again? Pinot and Péraud are both excellently placed.
Meanwhile, Mollema is doing well and we like to see that. You know why? Here's some news, he signed a contract with our team for next season!

Another minor point to make is that I finish 13th today on a hilly stage, 13th yesterday in a sprint stage, 8th in the time trial. I think that shows my all-round ability and I'm rather proud of that.

Ciao

Will likely be hard when the climbs get longer, but so far Andolini has done great.

Nepo
Wow, great news about mollema. Cant wait to see you both on the same team next year. And wow another great stage for Andolini, wonder how you will do when it comes to the big mountains. Maybe you can retain your white jersey??

Good to see you kept the white jersey there, though it seems like it'll be gone soon. Nevertheless a great effort.

MreSuperstar - Go ahead and cheer for Tejay, I'm happy for him, too Pfft

Tamijo - I completely agree!

Nepo - White would be amazing. But Alaphilippe has developed into a strong rider in my savegame and it'll be very hard. But who knows!
Mollema will be a great addition to the squad.

sutty68 - So far, so good!

Selwink - Thanks for reading! Saving the jersey even for one day is nice!
