Quintana need long breakaway like Shleck or Contador. Put 4 riders in break on 1st climb and then just go for it on 2nd climb.
It should be Contador like mentality for him. Win or nothing. No point getting podium. He has nothing to prove to Movistar.
But I think last climb attacks will not work. And he needs atleast 2 mins on Dumoulin. Anything less is as good as losing.
Cant see past Dumoulin winning Giro. |

Dumoulin will not gain 1'30 in the last TT, more like 40-50 seconds.

Both Quintana and Nibali dont care. Only thing they care about is the win. 2 days left.
The problem now is if Nibali/Quintana attack FDJ will do the work for Dumoulin, because Pinot will happily finish on the podium |

First of all, the TT si shorter than the last one. Then it's also easier and it doesn't have a rest day just before.

It being easier suits TomTom more.

It does not matter. Its completely flat. Quintana with His 58kg. Tom can gain 1 min easily. And most important this course is not certainly easier for quintana
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

People seem to forget that Dumoulin really was lucky, that the last TT has a very strong wind.

You seem to forget that Dumoulin is actually a TT specialist, unlike Quintana.

Good for them, however it won't make it any less funny if they lose their podium spots this way.
We often critisize riders for wanting to keep what they have; its certainly refreshing that both doesnt seem to give a crap about the podium and play psychological mind games on Tom. I don''t really get why it would be that funny if they lose podium for it (they most likely won't anyways) - Nibali has 2 wins in the Giro already along with 2 podiums. Quintana has 3 podiums in TdF. 2 big champions who go for the win - Pinot and Zakarin getting higher in the GC might even help them as thats more riders to look out for for Dumoulin. Obviously, now they just need to have the legs which they certainly didn't have today, Quintana and Nibali.
It aint over till its over boy, If Nibali sees any weaknees you will pay for it. This time Nibali from the RAI studio today when Tom said he didn't understand him and Nairo's tactics and he hoped they won't podium:
Nibali on Tom: "he's great, he controlled very well, he's the strongest of all. But he sounds a bit too cocky. He can't ask us to work for him. What does he want? That me and Nairo pull for him until Milano and then thank him? He hopes we lose the podium, why should I care about getting 2nd, 3rd or 5th? He could lose the podium as well if he keeps riding this way."
Big Nibali fan here. War! |

When Nibali can't attack in the saddle, he will find another way to do it. The guy is a master tactician, has griinta and panache. I even hope he will win overall right now!
A bit too overconfident from Dumo, he really is igniting the flames now which he probably shouldn't be doing when its the warmblooded Nibali we are speaking about. This guy often wins in the end in these tight battles - somehow! |

yep Niabli has some extra touch and luck. That is why because I wont declare this as Tom's GT win.
And of corse it is difference for him also to be 5th. or 3rd.
Playing poker at the moment. |

I also don't get the dislike or even hate Quintan receives on this forum, he has been the protagonist on basically all the important climbs so far apart from Stelvio. It worked on Blockhaus where he won, got reeled in and dropped by Dumo on Oropa and freaking Reichenbach controlled him today. I often think people expect too much out of him, to go on long raids etc. even tho doesn't have the legs to do it. And he even tried that today even tho he wasnt great by any means.
One of the big reasons probably is he looks so easy when he climbs, like he could go a lot faster with his stoneface, but don't let that deceive you. The guy has certainly animated the race more than Nibali, for example. And all of the other GC-riders, he is the one who has attacked the most. |

Never crashes, never gets ill, never has a really bad day. Then strikes without necessiarly being the best rider. Thats Nibali for you and he will try again. |

That's what I've been looking for for way too long!
I've been a Tejay fan since he came onto the scene, mostly because he was American and at the time as a little kid that was pretty much my criteria for a rider. Still, after all the crap of the past couple of years, I had pretty much given up on him. With all the times he would "get sick" or "have heatstroke" or "cramp up," etc., I basically thought he couldn't do it. And then, once his GC died early, I figured he would abandon again and his career would basically be over.
But he proved me wrong. He made something of his race and got his first GT stage win back for it. I'm really happy for him. I hope he takes it as a sign that even though GC is probably gone for him, he still has stuff to give to cycling if he is ready to take those kind of risks.
I was sad to see Dombrowski drop, as his performance has sucked this year compared to last year, but I'm glad Van Garderen was able to pull it out. Landa missed out again, but he'll be fine. He already has the KOM in the bag. He's missed out on two stages here, but hes got 3 GT stages for his career already, and I'm sure he has more to come.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy
