At this point, Contador will have retired many years ago and Froome have declined to the point he doesn't even attend Tour de France and instead desperately tried to win the Giro and the Vuelta where he now has the record of 5 2nd places. Richie Porte has retired and is winning Ironmans all across the globe, beating Armstrong handedly, while Chaves is running a very popular talkshow in Colombia after crashing on the descent of Stelvio in last year's Giro with 2 days to go in la Maglia Rosa. Bardet has regressed a bit and knows he can't contest the overall win, but is still a hellish attacker and has won the polka dots the last 2 years. A modern day Richard Virenque.
But Froome's attempt failed again and Sky is empty-handed ahead of TdF after a dreadful year where only Sebastian Henao has done something of note, winning the queen stage in the Dolomites and taking the mountains jersey after an incredible solo-raid Michael Rasmussen/Sella-style over Passo Giau and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Quintana will domestique for Bernal on Movistar after just having won the Giro narrowly ahead of Formolo. He isn't what he once was, but still can be an incredible asset for young Egan in the mountains of this year's Tour. Especially on the queen stage going over Galibier, Croix de Fer and Madeleine.
But Bernal isn't the only contender here. The French hope everybody is looking at is Francause des Jeux's Gaudu who podiumed last year after winning on Alpe d Huez like his tutor Thipaut. Probably the best climber in the race, he still has some inconsistency problems, but last year's podium showed he might actually be the favourite.
Adrien Costa is no joke either. He will be hampered by the little amount of time trial once again (come on Prudhomme), but is incredible consistent, yet never spectacular. Always a safe bet for at least top-5, but he can challenge for the win if his 7-Eleven squad is up to the task with decent lieutenants such as TJ and Talansky to guide him through. Kamna is the same story and he is always overweight going into the Tour, but once we hit the 3rd week, the other riders will grasp for air trying to stay in his diesel-grinding tempo, think Ullrich on Arcalis.
Sam Oomen is the next man up, incredible stylish on the bike, but the Dutch curse will almost inevitably hit at some point. Was about to win last year's Vuelta when he had a bad barbecue which left Bernal in the lead in Madrid. His change to Lotto Jumbo won't help that.
Then there are is the climber Mas, still an little unknown quantity in the biggest of races, but his talent and form is amazing. Won 2 stages in Dauphine and placed 3rd overall, expect a similar performance to that of Landa in 2015. The comparison gets even better as he is supposed to domestique for the more consistent, yet a bit less talented rider De Plus on QS. We could very well see those 2 riders attack left and right to break the peloton up, the best 1-2 punch in the race.
Riis - TheOneAndOnly Egan ARLEY Bernal
Shony - David VO2 MAX Gaudu
BBL - Adrien Lemond Costa
cio - Lennard the next Jan Kämna
Kirchen - Laurens de surprised you didn't go with Enric Man instead Plus
Selwink - Sam Oh no Im dutch Im gonna fail in the GT's Oomen Pfft
Olfardh - Enric Maserati Contador

1. Sam Oomen
2. Hugh Carthy
3. Nairo Quintana (what he is only 31)
Green: The greatest Colombian sprinter of all time, aka Juan Sebastian Molano. Halvorsen and Sagan also do well

To be realistic, probably noone of these guys, because hyped U23 youngsters rarely are succesful in later careers and win biggest things.
Half of them will not even race, third of them will be domestiques and maybe maybe one or two of these guys can be top5-10 favourites in 2021, but still will have their asses kicked by someone around 30 or 30+ years of age (Quintana, Pinot or someone like that).

Yes, maybe it's more viable to make a long-running bet on who will be the first TdF winner of them.
Either way, Gaudu all the way.

Also would be fun to actually check this thread again in 2021, and see which of these riders has been overhyped most

This counter should be regularly updated and through the roof by 2021
Quite score lead by Costa so far, ofc he needs that early advantage once Gaudu comes around, whooping his butt up Mont Ventoux.

Too little hype, too many well-found and logical arguments for my taste.

Chaves. Maybe Canty.
Laporte has already won the green jersey hasn't he?
Will have to search for the Basso approved 20 year old once I'm back on my computer.

Matt's 'None Of Them' is the Sky Train-option on a multi-epic mountain Stelvio Galibier stage.
